Britney Spears stumbled outside a Manhattan hotel, nearly dropping her 8-month-old son and further fueling the ever-growing media scrutiny of her parenting skills.

In photos splashed across the front page and inside the New York Post on Friday, the 24-year-old pop star is shown exiting The Ritz-Carlton hotel with Sean Preston in one hand and a glass in the other.

As her bodyguards walked Spears to her car, she stumbled - her long pants apparently getting tangled in her open-toed shoes - and bent low as Sean Preston's head flung backward, knocking off his orange hat.

Spears, though, was able to keep her balance and hold on to her son, with help from a bodyguard, who reacted quickly.

A call to Spears' publicist Friday seeking comment was not immediately returned.

The baby bobble was the latest public incident involving the safety of Spears' child. Earlier this week, she was photographed driving with Sean Preston in a car seat facing forward rather than facing backward, which some safety regulations say is best.

Spears, who recently announced that she's pregnant with her second child, was visited by a sheriff's deputy at her home in Malibu, Calif., last month after Sean Preston slipped from his nanny's arms as she was lifting him from a high chair and something in the chair snapped.

In February, authorities visited Spears' home after photos showed the singer in a car with her son in her lap, instead of being strapped to a car seat in the back seat. She first blamed pursuits by the paparazzi, but later said it was a "mistake."

I have seen news coverage on her several times and all the warnings she has gotten about her children. Maybe she should have to go to parenting classes.

And to think that she's pregnant AGAIN! :rolleyes:

I have always thought that some folks should have to take a test to prove they are fit for parenthood. I am guessing the Brit would have flunked big time...

I think it would be hard to do anything in the glare of the public spotlight. I know I am not perfect and would hate for my every move be photographed for public scrutiny. Being a new mom is a hard enough job without the rest of the world judging you. Just my two cents.

Reread what I wrote and was afraid it came out sounding snotty...I don't mean it to sound that way, I just feel kinda sorry for her when it comes to her son. I am actually not a Brittany fan at all, I would just hate to have to parent under a spotlight.

i totally understand but shes pretty much doing stupid things
one of them was putting her son on her lap while driving there was no need for that she drove several blocks like that she could have pulled over and buckled him in
and now she could have droped her drink she held onto it better than her son
i think it is sad how the pap watches them esp the kids but thats what happens when your a celeb right ? lol

She may not be the best at mothering, but in the beginning who is. I would not like to have my every move recorded, especially with the paparazzi just waiting for me to make a mistake. On the flip side, she has grown up with them and what did she expect. What is it they say "good or bad its free marketing."

I hope when she is older and she looks back and says "what was I thinking."

I think she is a boob. I know that any parent is apt to make a mistake but my beef is with her choice of clothing. This is not her first child. I have been pregnant three times and I know during the second trimester on your center of gravity changes. I fell in a pair of sneakers so why on earth does she continue to wear these outrageously high heels. The pictures of her after her visit to David Letterman..she was wearing these "Do Me Heels" that should have been on a drag queen or a hooker. This time from the pictures on tv that I saw she was wearing yet another pair of high heels and she had on very long jeans that the bottoms were slit and she was literally walking on the damn jeans. Can anyone tell me why someone would be that stupid? Then to top it all off she should have been supporting that baby's back. She is not that new of a mother to not know that one. At that age babies are very active and you need both hands and not a hand for him/her and a hand for your drink while you walk and profile.

I do feel bad because being a celebrity she will be in the public eye but shoot she really does make poor choices with what she does. The whole baby not in a car seat was just dumb as hell. JMO

Bad parenting; bad choices; she is going to have the Dept. of Family Services or Children's Services to contend with. Just because she is a celebrity doesn't allow her to mistreat (intentionally, accidently or unknowingly) her child.

I agree with the whole parenting in the spotlight thing. I think that it would be so hard to always be scrutinized by the public. BUT I still think Britney is making one bad choice after the other. I would really like to see her divorce that nasty guy, clean up her apperance - and for goodness sake, PUT ON A BRA!! (if you continue to look thru those pics in several of them she is wearing a black top and clearly NO bra and its just not attractive IMO)

...I imagine if I had Forty Public Relations people telling me I'm fabulous..at that age...I might be hard put to tell reality from fantasy. (Except the bra part...you could have the Pope telling me its ok...and I'd still be running for the Maidenform...)

I agree! I am pregnant right now and I don't wear heels. That is crazy. Did anyone see the pic of her and Sean in the convertible with the top down? There are SO many things wrong with that pic! First of all, he is clearly too small for that booster seat he was in. Second, his neck isn't being supported and it is painfully flopped over to the side. Third, he is being exposed to the elements of the sun, bugs, and wind, in some states it is ILLEGAL TO PUT DOGS IN THE BACK OF A CONVERTIBLE WITH THE TOP DOWN! Lastly, it doesn't look like she's terrified of the paparazzi and if she is always in fear you'd think she would put the top up and make sure her son is in that car seat correctly right?
I am a mom too and I've made mistakes. But I have ALWAYS double and triple checked the car seat to make sure I was doing everything right. And I think that I would drop my drink if I was holding even my dog in the other arm to make sure that she was safe. I don't feel sorry for Brit, it is the price of fame. I feel sorry for any kids that she has because they didn't ask for this life. Britney could do things to stop all of this negative publicity. She is not the first mother in the media. She is always blaming other people for her problems. After she tripped she said, "This is why I need a gun" as if the paparazzi caused her to trip! uck, it's time to take responsibility for your actions!

I think it's sad. Where are her friends to say "come on"!! Someone needs to have a heart to heart with her and maybe she should try and lay low for awhile. Seems she just has to much going on. Sometimes I wonder if it's intentional. Just look at all the publicity she gets from it.

I think the two incidents in the car were really stupid but this one I feel sorry for her. It doesn't look as bad in the video (to me at least) and she was really upset after.

I couldn't believe it when I saw that picture. She must not have a clue to how serious he could be hurt (or worse) if they were in an accident. He was not strapped in right.
She really needs someone to step in and help her. Where is her mother?

You know I never saw that picture of her son in the back seat like that. She really is a ding bat. That baby is so light skin and as babies their skin is so sensitive. Like hello...does she know that they invented sunscreen and that the baby should not be exposed to all that sun like that. God help her children.

I don't feel sorry for her at all. I feel sorry for the baby. Why on earth should you be carrying your child while you are pregnant and wearing such high heels and have them pants all under your shoes. Then to top it all off that baby's back and head needs support. I am sure he is not walking so he is surely not able to fully support himself well. Plus with a young baby like that at times they just drop themselves backwards and can totally injure themselves. The video that they showed on Channel 11 in the morning showed her pants leg and the shoes really well. She had them on skater style..you know where they are super long and they are walking on the pants bottoms.

I don't think she is a good parent at all..i'm sorry to say.

I totally agree. She is more into fashion and looking cool then her own kid. I am sorry to say that her son is another fashion accessory like her dogs were. Speaking of that, has anyone even seen a pic of her with her dogs? I hope she didn't get bored with them and get rid of them. But anyways, you are totally right, a baby that age needs more support because they do "throw themselves backwards alot." She could have had 1 of her 5 bodyguards hold her drink. I am so sick her blaming all of her bad decisions on other people, like the the nanny or the papparazii.
Please no one get her that gun, god knows her son would end up getting ahold of it!!!

I have no idea. But Britney needs some advice. I remember when my son was a couple weeks old someone told me to use the blanket and to shield his face from the sun. I don't claim to know everything, but I am thankful when people do tell me things. She needs to take it with a grain of salt and realize that like it or not she is a role model. I really feel like she could be doing other things to stay out of the spotlight like wear disguises, use a look-a-like, and other things, but it seems like she's not even trying. I just feel sorry for her son because he didn't ask for that kind of life, she did. What I would do and the best thing for the family would be to retire in the middle of nowhere and try to raise a normal family. But then people get greedy and still want more money and more fame.

Maybe for the best interest of the baby, she should have one of the bodyguards hold her SON!!!

I think she needs to drop her husband, live out of the spotlight for awhile and get parenting classes pronto!
