Calling all contact wearers...
 

I was recently fitted for contacts...Acuvue Oasys. What I was wondering is do you guys buy your contacts from your eye doctor or order online somewhere and get a better deal? I am all about a better deal if there is one to be had! Help an old girl that can't see very well out! :D

I have worn contacts since I was 12. I just got a new prescription and I think I am going to order them fro 1800 contacts. My new eye doc seems kind of expensive. I would try online first. Then maybe compare with your eye dr.

i got glasses when i was 5years old and got contacts when i was 12. I used to get them thru my eye doctor for years, but then i switched to Focus monthly. I used 1800contacts.com to order them and they came out to be cheaper.

However, recently at the end of February i got the LASIK surgery and now i have 20/20 vision without contacts or glasses and i couldn't be happier. I don't EVER remember seeing as well as i do now. I highly recommend it to everyone who's worn glasses/contacts for more years then they haven't. :)

Wow!!! I would love to have 20/20 vision!!! I think that I'll wait a little while longer before I have it done though. I had an aunt that had it done and one eye had problems and she would have been better off if she wouldn't have gotten it done. I'm sure that the odds of that happening are getting less and less all the time.

My doc won't give my prescription away to 1800 contacts and I was kind of stuck since I don't have health insurance and contacts are expensive from the dr's office. So a really nice friend of mine works at a doc's offc and sent me a bunch of samples :)

Walmart is actually cheaper here in Jersey than 1800contacts. But I have used them before I found out about Walmart. ;)

I've never ordered from 800 Contacts because I'll get stuck with spams and telemarketing calls... Do not like those.

I get my contacts from Costco. My brother has what you have now. He said it's $25 per box. Yikes. I have Accuvue2 (sp?) and I think it's $13.99.

I heard costco was inexpensive. I wear contacts, but I use my boyfriends :eek: I know it's bad, but he gets like 10 boxes a month it's crazy (he has wonderful insurance).. so he gives me a box whenever i need it. And we are exactly the same eyesight (i know it's bad because our eyeshapes are different).. but i've been wearing them for so long :D

oh and they are called h20.. cause the acuvue oasys and hyrdaclear make my eyes super dry!

I've worn contacts for many years. After going through many different brands, (acu-vue for one) I have settled on ciba vision night and day breathable lenses. I can wear them 30 days straight before taking them out unless i need a quick rinse for dry eye. They run me 90 dollars for a 6 pack at my eye doctor. i've never ordered them online. they get a :thumbup: from me.

My eyes are super dry as well. I was just thinking it was my eyes getting used to the contacts because I have never had a problem with dry eyes before. I use the re-wetting drops a lot! Maybe I should ask my eye dr. for another brand. He just said that these were the most breathable ones out there so these are the ones he put me in. He also said "women my age" might have more drying problems than younger women...getting old sucks! Somethings gotta give!!! :D

I wish mine were $25 a box! Mine are $45 a box per eye every 90 days!:thumbdown

I have been wearing contacts since I was 13. Yes it's been a long time!!! I buy mine directly from the eye dr. He actually has the lowest price. Speaking of which I need to order some. My son has contacts specially made for really bad astigmatisims, they cost a fortune.($250 for 3 months) My 13 yr old son. Has tried 3 times to get contacts. Where going to try one more time, than wait a year or so before trying again. My 9 yr old daughter just got glasses.

Aren't my kids lucky they all inherited by horrible eyesight. Eye Dr. said that the odds of all the kids having bad eyesight all at the same age. (also age I started wearing glasses) is really high.

Dd wears contacts...expensive contacts, like Sneri's kids. $70 per eye. And they can not make her prescription in "disposable" 30 day contacts either. They're cheaper at through the doctor's office than anywhere else though.

I got glasses when i was 5years old in the first grade. they were horrible looking; big thick plastic pink ones LOL Around 7th grade my eye doctor said i should start wearing contacts because my eye sight was so bad and were gettign worse each year. The contacts would help slow down the progression and it did. My contacts all thru high school and college were yearly's that came from the eye doctor becuase my mom didn't want to pay extra for me to get monthlys or weekly anywhere else. In 2004, i finally got monthly contacts thru 1800contacts. they came in boxes of 6 so i only had to buy them twice a year. In february of 2006 my vision was -6.75 in the left eye and -6.25 in teh right. I hated wearing contacts, and worse my glasses. i wanted to be able to wake up and just be able to see without having to stumble to the bathroom first thing and put in my contacts. So i decided to get teh LASIK surgery done. I went to a FANTASTIC doctor in NYC that a co-worker recommended. I got a friends and family discount of $1000 becuase of that, but it was still expensive. There was a little pain and burning for 6 hours after the surgery and i had to keep my eyes closed the entire 6 hours afterwards so i took some valium and tylenol 500s and went to sleep. After the 6 hours i could see EVERYTHING! it was amazing. my eyes didn't hurt anymore, they were no longer tearing. The next day when i went back to the eye doctor he did an eye exam and said i had 20/20 vision. its amazing what modern technology can do. i don't regret it for a minute, even tho i still haven't finished paying it off :D

I wish I could have the surgery. However, my eye Dr. said my eyesight is so bad that I would still have to wear contacts after the surgery. Yes I am blind as a bat.

My son can have it done in a few years, if his vision stays the same.

Where does he get his for $25 a box...and I am so dumb...how many "Pairs" are in a box? Do they count them as pairs or as each?

We get them from Costco. You have to get one eye's precription so you're looking at minimum of $50 for a pair of eyes (two boxes) (with 6 pairs of disposable lenses).

Don't you just hate that "at your age s..t!" lol I am 49 and just got contacts..I started out with bausch and lombe(sp?) Like you...my eyes dry out..so now we are trying acuvue advanced..these work better..However, I am trying to get used to mono vision..I tried the bi-focal contacts and just couldn't get used to them...are yours single vision? I have been wearing the mono vision for about 4 weeks now...somedays I can see more clear than others... I just wanted to know if anyone (or yourself) here have mono and how long it took to get used to them....

Not sure if you knew this or not, but three years ago a law went into place that your eye doctor had to give you a copy of your perscription and not stand in the way of letting you get your prescription somewhere else. I haven't had a problem since this law went into affect but did many times prior.

I order my contacts through 1800contacts also and their prices have always been cheaper and it's free shipping if you order online and you usually get them on your door step in 3-5 days without standing in that horrific line at Costco Optical.

Edited to say I pay about $19.95 a box (non colored) but because I have two different perscriptions I comes out to $39.90 for two boxes which lasts me 6 months. Not bad in my opinion.

I used to get contacts from there, and they never even check with the doctor! If they do, I seriously think it's randomly.

I'll tell you why: I wanted colored contacts, so I ordered a different brand with 1800contacts! And they sent them to me. The color didn't show on my eyes, and I wasted my money, but they obviously didn't call my Dr.! I know it was stupid (I was younger), and I wouldn't mess with my eyes like that anymore. I even change my contacts every two weeks and get my eyes checked once a year. I'm a good girl....now! LOL :D

PS. Only good when dealing with my eyes! ;)

Yeah, I do hate that age BS...I kinda wanted to slap him! I am 46 and I know I am not a spring chicken but I ain't on the edge of my grave either...at least I hope I'm not! Mine I am pretty sure are single vision. I am far sighted and mine are +1 in each eye and I can see near and far with them. He said that would probably change in a year and I would have to go to bi-focal but a lady in his office wears a different contact in each eye instead of bi-focals. Is this what you are referring to as mono vision? She said it took a while to get used to and then one day - BAM! - she could finally see good out of them and they were not strange to her anymore.

Yeah...I got a written prescription...gotta get it filled somewhere - these he gave me are about 3 weeks old now and I am supposed to change them every 2 to 4 weeks.

Check with your eye dr first. Where I work, if you buy your contacts from our office, there isn't a charge if you have a problem and need an appt. However, if you buy from 1800 contacts, they don't have dr's to take care of you!

Yeah my eye doctor told me that if I bought from them and let my script run out before I could get back in the office, they could give me one extra pair til I could get in for an exam...if I buy somewhere else, I get what is written and that is it. I don't think the doctor's price is that much higher on the ones I am using. I need to call him back too...late in the day, my eyes get kind of blurry and I was wondering if that was eye strain or just plain old time to take them out and put my glasses back on!

I KNEW IT! I have used Ciba for years...and paid more for my acuvue and I hate them! They just are not right! I am going back to Ciba...
BTW, has everyone heard about the Renu solution?? Thank goodness, I only used it for a month!

you could be overwearing your contacts or it could be dry eyes. if you use a "natural tear" lubricating eye drop made for contacts and your vision clears. then it is just dry. if that doesnt help you should cut back on your wearing time and put your glasses on a little sooner! (i work in ophthalmology and sometimes i work the triage, emergency, phone line)

Thanks Sarah...today, something different has come up. I put my contacts in about 3 this afternoon...wore my glasses early on in the day. My right eye felt like I had some lumps of sand or something in it. I took the contact out and put some rewetting drops on and put it back in...still felt bad. So when I got back home I looked in my eye in the area where it was irritated. There are two little yellow bumpy looking things in my lower eyelid...almost like a deposit of something. I guess I need to call the eye Dr. tomorrow and see what it could be. It is irritating without the contacts but really bad with them.
