I spend SO much time on my girls - keeping up with their hair... that I NEVER pay attention to my own.

Well - today I did.:( or TRIED to.

I know there is a woman in the Yorkie Show World who dyes her hair to look like a yorkie. .....Well - I was NOT going for that look when I decided to Frost my own hair this morning.

I went for the SKUNK Stripe look.

What did I Dooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

I NEED to hear some BAD HAIR Experiences here - Whether it be a Do it Yourself Job or a Stylist - and I decided after today - I really should read directions on boxes when it comes to PERMANENT hair color - I never dye my hair and now I know why....Frosting hair is just as permanent isn't it ?

I'm REALLY praying things look better with DRY hair - :( this is not good ladies. If my husband DARES to laugh - Guess who will be cooking his own meal tonight...on the other hand - I have REALLY curly hair - so maybe I can flip it around so my Skumk Stripe doesn't SCREAM OUT AT PEOPLE ? :D

and I KNOW YOU ALL HAVE BAD HAIR STORIES !!! I REALLY NEED ONE ...but it IS the weekend so I guess I can hang on till monday

OH NO I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience but the good news about frost is that you can usually dye over it. I frosted my own hair once and it was SO ORANGE. My knees went completely weak. NO joke I almost died. Fortunately for me I used a toner and it brought out all the orange. I also turned my hair a burgundy color once. No fixing that one. Man was that bad. If it is really bad you could call a hairdresser and get their advice. That is what I did. Good luck.

You are so sweet and MAN did you remind me of the ONE time I DID Dye my hair - My husband suggested going for a change - I though why not ? after being blond with hair that looks the same for 20 YEARS - I thought I'd try red - :eek:

It was BRIGHT ORANGE and I have pictures to prove it......I HATED IT and even driving in my car - I'd see these bright FLASHES of orange in the corner of my eye blowing in the wind - and it was FREAKING me out - got to work - and FREAKED THEM OUT too - lol

I went out and bought hair Stripper and dyed it back to blond. Man - my hair took a BEATING that year lol - LOL ...I guess I can get used to my little Skunk Strip after reading your post and remembering ME as Carrot Top...I still can't believe that guy makes MONEY off his orange hair !

Vee - I am so sorry but I am laughing my fanny off at your story. Been there done that but maybe you can comb your hair over like THE Donald:p

That is bad Villette!!! But nothing a good hairdresser can't fix. If you don't want to go that route, go to Sally's. Hairdressers work there and they will have the stuff to sell you to fix it! I screwed my hair up big time this year as well. My hair was down to my butt...I mean when I pulled up my jeans, it would get caught in the waist...have to pull it out!!! I decided that my dark blonde natural color was just too mousy...so I had it foiled...took a whole roll of aluminum foil!!! and hours to do it!!! Well, the bleach totally changed the texture of my hair and when I washed it, no amount of creme rinse or leave in condition would allow me to get a comb thru it without pulling out half of my hair! So I cut it off shoulder length...in layers and now I am not happy with that either. Long hair for me is easier because I don't have to "fix" it, but I wear it up all the time anyway...I am torn as to whether to cut it off to the shortest layer and start over or what...I love the color now but hate that $100 + every three or four months to get it touched up! I bought a box of the Clairol hi-lighter but am scared to death to use it!!! Good luck on getting your straightened out with the color....what we won't do to "look good"!!!

Sorry that you had such a bad experience with your hair. I'd go seek a professinal for help. I did try to dye my hair once (my hair is a strawberry blond) I wanted to go blond but it turned out clown orange! I just had to wear hats on my head for the next few months. (I never wear hats either.) Good luck!

and Kitty - I SO RELATE to that - I can't believe your hair did that color - and HATS are a GREAT Idea - I love panama hats - I may need to drag mine out of the closet...I can see it now - Miss SuperFLY !:D

Skunks are good also...:p :p When you get to my age it happens that way anyhow...On both sides of my head it has gone blonde/gray but the top down the middle seems to be getting darker and darker..What is with that? I have to pay a lot of $$$ to make the top match the sides. Can't win for trying.

My hair grows really fast...
 

It is to my shoulder blades again already! And to top it off...NOW after a whole life of straight hair, I have Naturally Curly hair...when it is wet it is kinked to the roots. My hairdresser thinks that also had a lot to do with all the tangles...but they were not as bad as after I colored it. Vilette...we need to see a picture of your "new do"...yeah...a picture would be nice! You just might set a trend!

That's EXACTLY why I tried to do my own hair this morning - I had that same issue and I overcompensated with the middle of my hair lol -

After reading the comments - I'm feeling MUCH BETTER ! I'll do alot of things to my hair - but The Donald is NOT one of them lol ....that picture was hilarious - I just asked my husband if it's as bad as it looks and he said not too bad...This is when I LOVE curly hair ! lol

Did you use that do it yourself highlight wand set? and part it down the middle and do it? I think you should suck it up and go to a pro to get it fixed :p My stylist does what she calls "emergency repairs" starting @ $20 and she comes to your house if you are afraid to go out in public. LOL. THEN she bitches abut you trying to do your hair yourself! haha.

Ok V now I am scared to even go to my own hair appointment in like 4 hours hehe.

Here's my story. Not that I tried to do it myself but I went to the hairdresser and decided I was going to go from my natural light brown to BLONDE!! It was a frost (do they still do those?). When she took the towel off my head in front of the mirror I passed out right there. I was not blonde, I was WHITE!! Like gray white and only 21 years old. It was the first time I had my hair colored and she nor I didn't know that my hair would take the color that well. I cried for 2 hours while she stripped my hair to get it back to it's natural color. Ever since, the texture of my hair has not been the same and that was 9 years ago.

Just remember, it's just hair and it will grow back.

I did the same thing ONCE and learned my lesson. I ended up having to go to a pro to put some of the dark back in because I put toooo much blonde on the top. The way I see it - I paid for the kit and I paid for the pro to reverse my mess...I ended up paying more:eek:

And Vee you got to admit when a loving husband says "it's not to bad" it must be bad...He would never hurt your feelings but he can't lie to you either...what's a poor loving husband suppose to do.

I do have to thank you girlfriend for another one of your wonderful stories that always puts a smile on my face. You have such a way with words.

P.S. Are you sure it was the dye and not bird poop from yesterday's story?

Ohh V- I use to wear my hair fairly short with two big blonde stripes in it and I loved it. You remember the trend about 5 years ago with the big stipes. It was one of my favorite styles. Yes- in Korea I messed my hair up twice- once trying to frost it myself with that wand- turned orange and funny stipes and once making it too dark. I was afraid to get it done there cause they have different dyes than we have and brought stuff from home back with me. I have been coloring my hair since high school and now I leave it to the hairdresser cause I just mess it up. Sorry you don't like it and you could just put a color one shade lighter than your own hair on it and it would tone down the highlights.

and I'm not kidding - after some of your stories ...I don't feel too bad now - :p Course I could be speaking too soon and maybe my hair will fall out or something ...but I can get used to it. I think a stripe is way better than ORANGE !

And Dwana - I can just see you with your streaks - that was what I tHINK I tried to do - little streaks - but I have more like Road stripes....

Oh - and Cindy - remember - The SAME hubby saying "it's not too bad" is the one who said GO RED a few years back - he actually was the ONLY person who liked my FLAMING ORANGE hair ...does that tell you anything about his Taste ?:p

You can easily fix this your self. get into the strip doing a "reverse frost" (instead of lightening do a darkening in those areas that you don't want light). I did hair for years and also taught. when it comes to color you got to treat it like you were dying a fabric or mixing colors to paint with. refer back to your school days in art class. if you want to neutralize a color, go to the color wheel and apply the opposite color that you have. it's all in the basics.
that is just a quick run down because i have to go to work in a few minutes.LOl sorry. if you need more help i can pm you tomorrow.

p.s. through the years, I have been every color in the rainbow! some by mistake....some on purpose.

Oh that sucks! Once when I was 16 I wanted to try Summer Blonde it was new back in the 60's. My mother wouldn't let me so I waited until she went to a PTA meeting and my girlfriend and I died my hair. Like my Mom wasn't going to notice! I had mousy med brown hair. Well i went to bed and the next morning I get up, First I left the package on the sink and I had Bright orange hair. My hair was down to my waist and she wouldn't let mr redye it. So i had to grow it out. I looked so ridiculous. I will try and find the picture of when it was half grown out.

Courtney I wish I had a picture but, my dear SIL at 31 had breast cancer and so my brother and their 3 kids all shaved their heads to look like mom - a site to see. We called them the cone heads and everyone survived this because one of the reasons was their sense of humor. The journey and the love was incredible to watch.

OK go back years ago!!!! Many years ago!!!! Remember when Perms first came out? Well, everyone was getting them, soooooo, after Rob went to work I took off and found a place to get one. OMG!!!!!! I was so excited I couldn't stand it, I was going to surprise Rob and have him take me out to dinner.

Well they took the curls out and turned my chair so I could take a look.

What did you do!!!!! I just started to cry, I looked like I put my finger in a light socket! I couldn't control myself, I paid the girl, put a bag over my head, and walked all the way home. I cried all day, when Rob came home he didn't know I was there, because I left my car there. He heard me and came in the room, he had no idea what he was about to see when I came out from under the covers. My eyes were so red, my hair was a mess, and I looked like I got hit by a truck. And the smell from the perm stuff was gross.
I called my friends, all they could say was didn't you ask for the wave, No I asked for a Perm! Well you know they say all you have to do is wash it and it will come out, NOT TRUE!!! I had the worst hair for over a year, and there was nothing I could do about it. I still get mad just thinking about it.
I'll never want what everyone else has ever again.

You know what - If I lived there - I would DO IT WITH YOU ! I'm up for anything - and I think it's Fantastic you're making a party out of it....I just MAY join you ...especially after reading Gina's PERM POST -

I have hair that looks like that NATURALLY Gina - I think my whole body was stuck in a light socket at birth -

The funniest thing about having curly hair is we cannot get STRAIGHT HAIR ! People with straight hair CAN go curly - but very hard to get curly hair totally straight.

Poor Gina - I've never had a perm but I sure relate to THAT story !

Villette, years ago my Mom tried to dye her hair blonde :rolleyes: She looked like a CARROT... there's MORE to this story, but i don't think i should go public with it :cool: I gotta think of my reputation ya know :eek:
