My white carpet is RUINED!

I am in tears right now! I don't even know what the heck to do! I have WHITE!!!! Carpet! And I now have a HUGE!!!! Pink spot right in the middle of the entry way!!!! its centered right at the entrance to my kitchen, front door and living room and hallway!!! You cant miss it no matter where you are!!!! And it would not be a good place for a BIG PLANT!

Who do I call??? WALLMART??? The HUMMING BIRD FOOD PEOPLE??? This is soooooooo NOT MY FAULT!

I hit PetCo and Wallmart.... (my Buddies so scored!!!) And I bought a humming bird feeder ar Wallmart and two bottles of Humming bird food. I came home and set 4 shopping bags down in my entryway and went to let the girls out of their crates. We went outside to potty! (and they both did!!!! Yeah Girls!) Then we came in, I put the girls in the kitchen and went to retrieve the said bags. when I lifted them up I screamed! Really! I actually screamed! There was a dessert plate sized circle of red on my white carpet!

I have been spraying it with plain water for an hour and blotting it with white towels... yes I have now ruined most of my nice white towels... And now all I have is a big pink spot! I am just in tears!

I never expected the bottle to leak! Why would it???? I bought two of them, the other was just fine! the were in two separate bags... and they were in bags all by themselves! What the heck can I do about it??? This pink spot is NOT coming out!

DaisyMaesMom 05-04-2006 01:16 PM

I would start by calling both!! It should not have leaked that's horrible! In the meantime, take pictures and keep trying to get the stain out. Hubby bought Resolve at the store on time and he swears by it now.. Try that.

browniesmom622 05-04-2006 01:17 PM

call the number on the bottle they should be able to help you !!

im so sorry thats why we have brown & black rugs

DianaB 05-04-2006 01:19 PM

Do you have any of that oxy stuff? I have a spray bottle of oxy cleaner that is by Clorox that I pick up at Dollar General for $1.50. I would even try mixing the powdered laundry stuff with water and try it. As a very last resort, since your carpet is already white I would mix a small amount of bleach with water and lightly try that. (you might try an out of the way place first). I would probably try a shampooer first and after trying any of these other things. Good luck.

fasteddie 05-04-2006 01:23 PM

You could try some of that OXY cleaner, we use it for spots where Yoda has thrown up with good results. We have a cream-colored carpet as well as an Oriental rug. It's worked fine for us, good luck!

Kathryn_V 05-04-2006 01:30 PM

It says right on the darn bottle Red dye will stain bla bla bla.... no kidding! What it does not say is, Our bottles suck and we can't guarantee that our red dye will stay in them!

At least its pink now and not the hooker red it was an hour ago!

red98vett 05-04-2006 01:36 PM

Well...Look at the Light Side - the YORKIE DIDN'T DO IT ?

I'm kidding ....and I know you're really upset - thats awful. I think you should try the Oxy Cleaner and Quick. The sooner you get to it the better.

The other alternative you have is thinking about something to cover it up because everything is hard to get out of white carpet....especially if it's a grey white or a pink white - all white is NOT White.

I wish I had more help for you - :(

What Fiber is the Carpet ?

txshopper73 05-04-2006 01:37 PM

Oh, no!:( I like the oxyclean idea. I hope it works. Also, I'd contact one of those carpet cleaning people. They may be able to help.

OLIVIA_KARHIS 05-04-2006 01:41 PM

Do you have any left over carpet?? You can replace just that spot. I had to do that when I was in a APT. A bottle of bleach got on my tan carpet and turned it a brown color. I called the carpet cleaner place and they did it for like $60.00 or something like that. It was not very much. Depends on how big the spot is.

It blends right in, if they do it right.

chewysmom 05-04-2006 02:15 PM

Sorry to hear this! I just saw something on tv, I can't remember what it's called, but it's a device that you fill with solution and there are rotating brushes on the bottom. You just set it on the stain and half an hour later it's gone! Has anyone else seen this ad? I'll try to remember. In the meantime, don't put any more water on the stain.

Bonnie's Mom 05-04-2006 02:18 PM

I had white carpet and actually used clorox on it. IF you do this, try it first in a out of the way spot like behind the furniture in a corner. Also, I have the SPOTBOT and it is awesome for cleaning spots on carpet.

It sounds like the SPOTBOT I mentioned in above post.

That is what I was going to suggest. If all else fails this should be able to be done. Hope everything works out for you.

Patti 05-04-2006 02:36 PM

I use the orange glo cleaner and it has taken out many bad stains.

I have a SpotBot too and it works wonders!! It has taken out all of my stains, inlcuding RED candle wax. This machine runs $129.00 at WalMart. You didn't hear this from me but you can always buy it, use it, and take it back.....I know I am terrible.

Also, one time when I spilled CHERRY KoolAid on my white carpet I called the carpet cleaning company and they have this stuff called RED OUT. It's not cheap but it does work. I think it cost like $159.00. I guess if it is important to you no cost is too much.

Good Luck.

NKARENG 05-04-2006 03:22 PM

Sorry to hear about your carpet. I suggest if you have a closet have someone to remove a section there and replace the spot. They can do miracles.

YUP, that's it!

teri88 05-04-2006 04:03 PM

your other alternative is your home owners insurance may be able to pay to have it repaired or replaced.

Would your homeowners really pay for that?? Ours down here wouldn't. Nor would we want to claim it for risk of being cancelled... They are always looking for a reason to cancel policies. No one wants the hurricane risk and you know how it goes, file a claim and your rates go up.. It's already so darn expensive I can't risk it going any higher... LOL It's crazy down here for insurance.

YorkieRose 05-04-2006 04:12 PM

carpet

Call a carpet cleaning service..you will be amazed what they can do..and it is worth the price..better then new carpeting. My daughter had a hole chewed in the middle of her bedroom carpet by a new puppy...it is completely gone now.

I do know Chlorox Clean-Up will remove grape juice stains from a white coverlet...but I diluted it, rinsed and let it air dry...

Yeah it would pay. My friends husband dropped a can of motor oil on the dining room carpet and they were able to replace the entire room! I would think that your rates would only go up if you had several claims, or a really huge one, like a fire. It wouldn't hurt anything to at least call the insurance company and ask.

yorkiesruleme 05-04-2006 05:46 PM

So sorry to hear that, I swear by "Spot Shot"...best stuff ever, you can get it anywhere. Good luck.

alisonJ 05-04-2006 06:08 PM

I love the oxy-clean carpet cleaner. I am fairly sure it will work on that stain. Try it.

Oscar's Mom 05-04-2006 07:40 PM

I am an insurance adjuster...

And yes, most homeowners policies would pay for an accident like that. We have worked claims for similar damages before. However, some policies have clauses that say they won't pay for pet damage, which this was not. If you can't clean it yourself or professionally clean it, I would contact my insurance company. Be sure and save all of the receipts where you tried to clean it as well. You can file those too. Good luck!

eroar2 05-05-2006 04:18 AM

Try Spot Shot... You can get it at the Grocery Store or the Drug Store. Real Estate Agents swear by it when they are selling homes and doing last minute clean ups... Only a few bucks for a can...

That's a good option if you can't get it out using all the great advice here.

Once, years ago, I was painting a bedroom, had a tarp over the light tan carpet. Well, I was in the process of relocating the tarp to another part of the room when the door bell rang. I set the paint down (really dumb, I know) on the ladder tray and ran downstairs. I'm not sure how it happend, but by the time I got back upstairs, I had two paint covered dogs, a HUGE amount of paint on the carpet, and doggie footprints everywhere! :D Yeah, it' funny now...
After tossing both dogs in the bathtub (oh, did I mention this was oil-based paint, so that just COMPOUNDED my problem!)
I rented an extraction machine (on the advice of the equipment rental guy) and extracted as much paint as I could. Then I called a professional carpet cleaning service. The first one didn't sound too confident, so I called another...they did a great job, and the stain didn't return.

GOOD LUCK! Hope your feeling a little better today. Hang in there, something has got to work!

rrosenberry 05-05-2006 04:45 AM

I would try every carpet cleaner on hand,, sooner the better..
Heres my DUH carpet story~
I had a spot.. ( no doubt Bailey when he was little) so I reach under the sink to grab this spray carpet cleaner, and I spray all over my new cream berber carpet,, and I realize as I'm spraying,,, " Hmmm that looks odd,, kinda greenish?" YES, it's GREEN SPRAY PAINT! Who put that under there? (me)

So I'm flipping out,,thinking all the things I'm sure you did,,,"Hmm in the runway,, can't put a rug there, not a plant... what am I gonna do",,, So in a frenzy I grab the CORRECT cleaner,, 2 from the Dollar store,, dump them on it, start scrubbing with a brush, diluting with water,,scrubbing more... and it came out! For months when I looked at it I thought it looked green,,, but noone else could tell where it happened ( believe me I aksed everyone) "Any spot look green on this carpet?"
So try everything, and if no good,,, call the professionals..

I have even had the hummingbird bird food issue,, filled the container w. water, the feeder had a hole, and it poured on the kitchen floor,,but carpet there ya couldn't see it..

JeanieK 05-05-2006 04:53 AM

Sorry abouyt your carpet, you could cover it with a rug runner. Red dye is awful to get out.

This is realy of the subject, but I can't believe that they put red dye in hummingbird food. It is not good for them, You use plain old sugar and water and put it in a red container.

sneri13 05-05-2006 06:27 AM

Ouch!!! I had white carpet in my dinning room, living room , Bed room and Hall. (ps Never again) I have the BEST carpet spot remover from the vacuum store I go to. Unfortunately without looking at the can I can't tell you what it's call. I let you know when I get home. It takes out just about everything. My daughter got sick one night. Ran to my bedroom to tell me she was going to be sick. Instead of going in my bathroom she proceeded to run through the bedroom, down the hall, (yes sick the whole way). We had spaghetti for dinner!!!!!!!

DianaB 05-05-2006 06:35 AM

So.....What happened?.......Did it come out?......Let us know!!
