i finally quit smoking its been 2 days now and im going nuts... got the patch on my butt.. its so darn hard, but i gotta do it...i find myself so hungry and dont want to gain weight...hhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeellllllllllppppppppp... i hope i can do it.. |
Wow. Congrats! I quit for 3 weeks earlier this year, but I of course went back gradually. :( Best of luck!! I think my next step will be trying the patch. |
I can't help ya...but hang in there and good luck. |
Congrats!!! I'm proud of you! :D |
Oh, and I heard a good way to curb hunger is to rinse with listerine whenever you feel a craving. It worked for me for a while and I didnt' use anything else. (not store brand or other mouth washes because they don't contain as much alcohol). |
:congrats: Keep up the good work and never stop trying. Don't have personal experience - one bad habit I did't indulge in. Would it help to know that you'll keep your puppy healthier by not smoking? |

That's good news! I have tried a few times but to no avail but once I make my move to the WA area Im going to work on it again, here is a link to download a quit meter, it's really cool, shows you how many days of your life you saved , the money spent etc.. how many ciggys you haven't smoked, I was using it and it really helps! good luck! there is also a forum that I was going to for support it's called smoke away, they really helped but I fell off so many times, anyway :bravo: :cheer: http://www.dedicateddesigns.com/qk/ |
I'm so proud of you  I quit cold turkey 25 years ago. Well maybe not cold turkey. It was right after my divorce and I was in a new relationship and we quit together, but I think we sublimated sex for cigarettes. To keep from craving that after sex cigarette, we just had more sex. :D Seriously though, what helped me, was first of all I never told my self that I could not have another one, that would have made me want one even more. For the first few days, I took it one hour at a time. I would tell myself, just wait one more hour, and I'd find something to keep myself busy. To keep from eating, I sucked on lemon drops. And I had a pencil or a toothpick in my mouth all the time, just to keep my mouth and hands busy. The "keeping busy" also helped to keep from gaining. I found that driving was the worst, because I would always light a cigarette before I'd start the car, so on my commute to and from work, I would do deep breathing. Draw in as much air as your lungs can hold, and then hold it in for as long as you can. Try it, it gives you an oxygen rush. Good luck     |
that's great news. Keep it up. One of these days I will actually succeed. |
Congrats, Gina, that's AWESOME!! Water!!! Drink lots of water!!!!! Stay hydrated all the time. It will help to ease the hunger pains. Eat small healthy meals, munch on fruit and veggies, low cal stuff. Be careful of high fat high sugar foods. WATER!! Drink WATER!! :D I am really proud of you, girl. Smoking kills. :( |

Oh so you quit xmoking and got hooked on mouthwash. :lol tears |
Good for you!!!! Good luck and I hope you make it through as it is very tough . . .my hubby went cold turkey 5 years ago and never looked back . . . I bought him an expensive car  as an incentive and it finally worked! Told him if he ever smoke again, me and my daughter will smash his headlights :D :D :D He treats his car like I treat Tiger . . . |
i hate water, but im getting a bottle right now and i will drink it while on yt.. thanks all for your support , i surely need it... |
Way to go Gina!!!!! You can do it! Think Healthy!!!!!!   |
I've been quit for almost two years now and let me tell you, the pride NEVER goes away! What worked for me was staying away form anywhere smokers might gather. That was hard since my husband is in a band and the bars are so full of smoke you don't need to actually light up to get your buzz. Drinking plenty of water and chewing gum really does help. Cravings only last 5 minutes at the most, try to hang on to that thought. They will occur less and less. The best thing I found was whenever a craving came along I changed something. Stand up, switch tasks, straighten the covers on your bed. Just do anything as long as it changes what you are doing now. Good luck. Lou |
thank lou.. still hanging in over here.... just ate lunch, boy thats the worst. i always smoked after a meal... but i didnt this time.. i kept my little butt right in my chair....the worst will probably be when i go home today.. i always light up in the car |
You can do it!!!!! I quit smoking with the patch and it has been 4 months! I had been smoking for 14 years and I did not want to quit, I had to! My advice, don't beat yourself up if you slip, it happens but let me warn you that ciggarette is going to taste like dog crap! Honest! I got myself one of those little hand held video games (Tetris) and played that thing when ever I had a craving instead of eating everything in the pantry. No one can beat my score at Tetris now!!! Good luck to you!!!!!! I know you can do this!!!!!!!!!! |

im happy i have a support system.. my b/f keeps checking on me throughout the day...he's ok you know...he really is... |
Oh Claire! You are right about the video game. I forgot. I kept my laptop beside the couch and in the evenings I would play games during the commercials! That helped a BIG lot! That's when I did my hand mending and hemming too! Lou |

:goodluck: THAT IS SO FUNNY YOU HAVE THE PATCH ON YOUR BUTT. MY HUSBAND GETS ON ME ALL THE TIME TO QUIT BUT I JUST DONT WANT TO STOP. I KNOW ITS NASTY/SMELLS/BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH BUT    I LOVE IT. TRY AND KEEP IT UP. |
I'm sorry that I can't personally be of much help to you since I"ve never smoked, but I heard that having a lot of chewing gum on hand helps.. Chew whenever you have a craving. Hubby quit cold turkey in 1999 the day that we moved in together. He knew that I would not stand for it. He did go through hell and coughed up a storm for almost a year after. Ask him know though and he'll tell you that quiting was the best thing he ever did aside from marrying me of course... ROFL Bravo for you!!   |

I'm a very active person too, cannot even make it through a 1 hour Tv show without getting out of my chair. Dogs hate sitting on my lap. But I do crochet. I love it. and when I was quitting I did a lot of it to keep my hands busy when I was resting. It helps just to keep your hands occupied. |
That is great! Better to put on a few pounds than be a skinny corpse! My hubby cann hardly walk at 54 had angioplasty at 45 with 3 stents and quit for 1 year then went back and is smoking 2 packs a day. I know you can do it! It's also better for your furbaby's health. He sucked on live savers when he quit. |
