Wow, Having owned Doberman's I can understand the other point of view. It's horrible that these dogs have been exploited by some and now ALL pitbulls are attached to the stigma that they are inheriently(sp) bad. I have a friend who has 3 pitbulls and they are the sweetest dogs. I couldn't imagine them hurting a fly. |
Pit Bulls are a wonderful and beautiful breed. It's people who make this breed mean because they know the dog is very powerful. That means put harsher punishments on the people not the dog. Crystal |
YOu all know how i feel about this. It tares me up knowing that because of a few people they are now trying to ban pit bulls. You never hear how the small dog or supposedly family dog bites..just pits, rottis ect.. Don't people realize that ANY dog even a yorkie has the potential to bite and do damage. Even a small chihuahua can hurt someone. Thats the chance we take when we invite an animal into our home. Not to mention adding bad owners to that and you can get one very mean dog. I"ve seen shows on all types of breeds where dogs have gone bad. But no all you hear is about how this pit did this or that..It's all drama. If someone came on here and told a story how a small breed dog bit..everyone would want to know what the owner did to make it bite..but if it's a pit it's all the dogs fault. This makes me sooooo mad.. they are putting pit bulls down left and right and no one cares but the people will stand up if it's a wild animal and fight to save it. Some kind of world isn't it.. |
I totally agree with you on the breed getting a bum wrap. My family has always kept these dogs with no problems. I really think that there are no bad animals just bad owners. People know the potential of these dogs and exploit it for their own stupid reasons (amusement, sport, just plain stupidity...etc). We have never had a problem with our dogs attacking other people. I remember a few years back an article was published in response to this that had a list of the doggie offenders and showed who was responsible for the most attacks...it wasn't the pit. It just happens that they can do serious damage if they do and that scares people. It sucks that all of the breed is getting a bad name. |
It does suck. How would these same people feel if we were trying to ban a breed they love. |
I'm not trying to start an argument on the bad breed or bad owners....but in our area there have been as many as ten recent (maybe more... it's hard to keep count) instances of pit bulls attacking either children, other animals, and in one instance, an elderly lady. The children were brutually attacked, the animals all died as did the lady. ALL of the pit bulls involved were, quoting the owners,..loving, family pets. Two of the pit bulls jumped privacy fences to get to their victims....one of which was a yorkie sitting INSIDE her sun room. That one destroyed a door to get to her....ate his way through it. I agree mean owners make mean dogs, but I am leary of pit bulls. The only breed in our area that has attacked anything has been pit bulls...having them contained hasn't even stopped 3 of them in this area. One instance was two pits involved in attacking another animal. Needless to say our area is one that pushing for legislation. And if it were my pet, or family member who'd be attacked, I'd certainly endorse it....it's happened here too, too many times. The legislation that you must keep your pets contained, or restained, just isn't working...... |
If a bear attacks just that bear is put down..if a pit attacks they want to put all pits down..is that fair? What about sharks..gorillas..alligators..labs..they've killed..spiders...kangaroos..chimps...elephants..p eople..where does it end? |

So are only dogs who attack deemed vicious or is a newborn puppy automatically deemed vicious because of its breed? Just trying to understand. |
people are trying to ban the breed..that is killing them..and alot of states if they are brought in to the humane society automatically put a pit bull down..that is killing the breed. There was a story on a lady that had a search and rescue that was a pit bull..she was out walking him..he even had his vest on..and he runs up to greet this man and get some luvins and the man beat this poor dog..he cowered on the ground while a man took a night stick to him..this dog did nothing..did he deserve that..was he being viciuos. |
awww... these people are soooooo cruel.... I used to have one ..but he was too hyper & I did not have the time to take him for walks all the time... it makes me soooooo sad to see this.... I hope they don't pass that law...... gosh it made me cry so much just thinking what a horrible mistake they would be making banning this breed!! ** P.S I saw this thread earlier but I wanted to avoid it so bad..... couldn't keep myself away .....*** |

but thats bull too..cause some dogs snap and it's not the owners fault.. |
1 Attachment(s) OK, I will tell you all, that I'm scared to death of big dogs, I was attacked by a Dobbie and he was NOT put down, the animal shelter said they were NOT putting a good dog down that just nips someone! Well I will post my pics and you all be the judge of it. I do agree if a dog bites someone bad enough it should be put down. ANY dog can do harm, if you pi$$ off that dog bad enough it will snap. It's the same as any person can do harm if pushed bad enough, just let someone hurt my children and see what I would do, am I going to be put down for protecting my young? It really saddens me to see dogs trained to hurt others, some owners slay me how they train a dog to be mean. |
With a law like that , I will not be surprised to see several other breeds be banned too . No matter the breeds . |
I agree with you missy..I know what all you've been through since the attack and it breaks my heart to know your fear. But like missy said and she WAS attacked..focus on the dog doing the attack..not the whole breed..if she can say that and she was viciously attacked..then why can't others stand up and say hey maybe not all big dogs are bad.. |

Nah, I ain't that thinned skinned. But I will tell you that if a dog attacks one of my pets or my family members...and I'm around...I will be charged with something myself...cause I'm gonna attack it BACK. Nifer posted a thread on here not too long ago about a pit bull that scaled a 7 foot barb wired fence to escape....what the article didn't mention...was the fact the dog had 7 stab wounds w/ drainage holes in him...where he was stabbed by an owner of the dog he was attacking. When they reported his escape....included in the news report..."he's considered dangerous"....nothing about being armed though  ....even had a special hotline number to report sightings. Btw, just heard on the news, a dog catcher was attacked today by a pit bull. Last week a mailman was attacked. We must have a lot of mean pit bulls here in Virginia.... |

THAT, my friend is EXCELLENT legislation. I work for the House of Reps and we have the same type of legis going thru the Illinois General Assembly right now. It also trains police officers to know the signs of dog fighting and makes that a felony, too! |

I laughed during the news report about the dog escapee....flashed his "mug" shot...be on the lookout....he's this weight, this tall, covered in black white fur, brown eyes...he's considered dangerous....and all I could think of was...they forgot to say armed...armed and dangerous  One attack we had here...did tick me off. The dog was IN his yard inside a 7 foot privacy fence....now some kid climbs the fence and falls ON the dog....the dog attacks HIM. Did the kid get charged with trespassing? Nope. Is it the kid's fault? Nope. The only advantage the dog got was he wasn't sentenced to death because of the circumstances....his owners DID have to get RID of him. I did not agree with that whatsoever. |

well said....there has been too many and when you see little children dying, you cant help but to push for legislation. bchgirl, i'm with you :bravo: :clapsmile |
When I was a baby my grandma had a pit bull named Sheba, she was a puppy when I was born and she was raised around me. She was the most gentle dog I have ever seen! She was my protector, If I started crawling towards the stairs she would lay there so that I could not fall down! And I would drink out of her water bowl and she would let me  She passed away at the age of 14 and she never turned on anyone! But I am still afraid of big dogs, they just scare me, I dont know why but thats just the way it is! My brother in law has an american bull dog and she literally scares the pee out of me! When she was a puppy about 7 months ago my hubby was playing with her and started chasing her, well she didnt like it and she growled! Well 7 months later everytime we go to his house, Lola, (the dog) just stares at my hubby the whole time and growls! If Adam makes a sudden move she will jump like she is ready to attack! I dont think that everydog should be put down only the ones that do hurt someone! |
The seem to class the whole breed as vicious. You know what's funny people tend to lump other terriers into the same and they get blamed. Someone was talking about banning pitbulls and when I asked further questions she was speaking of the one that looks like spud mackenzie. |
