That Amber alert was quick. I clicked on the link and it had said there are no missing children in Kansas already! I found the news story saying that she had been found! This is great news! Missing teen found unharmed Story by Associated Press 10:37 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006 Independence, KS — A 16-year-old girl reportedly abducted from her southeast Kansas neighborhood early Tuesday morning turned up late Tuesday night at a nearby house, apparently unharmed. 49 News had complete coverage of the Amber Alert issued early Tuesday for 16-year-old Kelsey Lynn Stelting. View and read the story about the missing teen that aired on 49 News at 10. Independence Police Chief Lee Bynum said Kelsey Lynn Stelting is being interviewed by the FBI and investigators from his department. Authorities issued an Amber Alert after Kelsey's disappearance was reported about 6:30 Tuesday morning. The talented, well-liked high school junior had gone outside to get a bag of softball bats from the family car for a scheduled double-header Tuesday night. Police and her parents said later they believed an armed man approached Kelsey and ordered her to run to a nearby lumber company, where she was told to get into a white van. At some point, she was able to call 911 one a cell phone. The vehicle headed south on U.S. 75 toward the Oklahoma border, about 15 miles away. The FBI joined investigators from Kansas and Oklahoma for a massive search throughout the day. Kelsie was found alive. I don't know all the details yet, but there is supposed to be a press conference this morning. I will fill you in on the details later. Thank you all for your concern and your prayers. It is always bad to hear about any child or teenager taken and so many of them are never found until it's too late. This teenager was someone I knew because of my granddaughter playing softball with her and she was taken from a small town here in Kansas. As I mentioned in my other post, we don't expect things like this to happen in our small communities like they do in the larger cities. I have two teenage granddaughters who live there in Independence and two who live in Pittsburg going to college. I hope they catch whoever put this girl and her family and friends through this. I am so thankful it didn't turn out like most of these cases. |
Oh what great news. I am glad to hear everything turned out with a happy ending. |
Thank God Wow, I am so glad that they found her. I hope she will be okay and her family as well. Once more the power of prayer seems to have worked. Still it is terrible that poor girl and her family had to go threw this. Just terrible.. |
I am so glad that she was found unharmed, I heard it on the radio this morning and was so relieved! |
the police are know saying it was a hoax, dont have all the details yet but I will watch the news later to find out. |
Authorities in Independence, Kansas, say a 16-year-old girl's tale of being kidnapped at gunpoint from the driveway of her home this week was a hoax. The police and FBI said Kelsey Stelting acknowledged this morning that "the abduction she had previously reported to police did not happen." In a written statement, law officers said the girl told them that "all of the original statements she made regarding the abduction were false and that she acted alone." Stelting, who was missing for about 15 hours Tuesday, had said she was kept in a white van and clobbered her assailant to escape. In a 911 call to police early Tuesday, the teenager said she had been kidnapped at gunpoint from the driveway of her home, forced to run to a white van in front of a lumber yard several blocks away and then forced inside. The FBI brought in 30 agents and other personnel to join a search that already included police and county officers, and authorities issued an Amber Alert. http://www.49abcnews.com/news/2006/a...ax_police_say/ |
