I would be so mad! At least they caught it but I know what you mean I use my bank card and I never have cash on me so that would be a big pain!

I know I felt completely violated when someone came into our office and took my purse (my desk is near an exit door). In as little as an hour, they have spent over $300 on my cards.

I didn't have that much cash in it (once that's lost, it's harder to recover). Still, I felt someone trespassed and took away my security.

I went to the police station where they had a security tape from the local Wal-Mart. I saw the very people who stole my belongings. But the tape was too fuzzy, couldn't identify them for sure. So, they were never caught.

Good thing I got it all back though.

bad people suck. they ruin it for everyone. i use only 1 card online and moniter my statement closely.

Have you had your credit report checked lately? I'd be more concerned that someone has now gotten ahold of more of your account numbers since they have more than one of them already. It's very rare to be a victim of this type of fraud, but to be a victim of it twice, is even more rare. I'd ask for a copy of your credit report immediately and CAREFULLY review it. Make sure to close anything you are not currently using. Good luck.

This recently happened to me and my husband and he's a cop for goodness sake. I'm sorry you are going through this, I know how it feels to be invaded of your privacy.

As a former bank branch manager who had to deal with my customers who had their identity stolen, certain thieves will start with small amounts because it isn't as alarming to the people they are stealing from. If they can get one $25 transaction, they may be able to get 2 or 4 and so on! It adds up.

I can also tell you that the Visa debit card companies are notorious for getting their records hacked into on a regular basis, and card number files stolen. You may have had nothing to do with your card's number being stolen. Tell your husband it may not have happened through on-line shopping, it was probably hackers, and that is why both your cards had $25 attempts. The numbers were probably right next to each other in the files.

Hackers figure out how to accomplish identity theft as quickly as banks come up with programs to prevent being hacked. It's never-ending. I agree with the folks who say to use a credit card instead. Credit card companies can only hold you to $50 in liability max.

STAY ON TOP OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS, people. DO NOT put your statements in your desk un-opened! Check your account on line often. It's the only way you can be sure nothing funky is going on with your account. You are really lucky, Amy, that your bank is all over it!

If you want to get your credit score with your report, you have to pay $4.95, so have a credit card ready if you want it. Otherwise, you get your free credit report without a score, which is fine if you are just checking to make sure everything on there completely belongs to you. The site tells you what to do if there is erroneous info on the report. It's a good idea, so if you are curious, check it ou!

I agree with you on most of your post, and if you have a ton of credit cards that are open, yes, do close some BUT be selective! Do not close your oldest accounts as they give you the very best credit history, provided you are paying them as agreed. It's better to close new accounts than old. Also, it's better to get rid of your higher interest cards if you can.

My boyfriends sister had her coach purse taken out of her car while it was in her garage in Oklahoma. She pulled in, got the kids out of the car, took them in and when she returned her purse was gone. Maybe 10 minutes tops. She lives in a fairly nice neighborhood so it's scary. They had to have either followed her home or been casing the neighborhood. Either way they had to have watched her pull in and such to know they could grab it and run. could you image coming back out to your car for your bags and find someone stealing your purse? I think she's lucky that she hadn't actually come face to face with them. They charged and cashed checks totalling over $8k. She's had everything closed and all that, but they are still trying to cash her checks and everything. Good thing is she called everybody early enough to make them aware and hasn't been held liable for any of the charges.

Im sorry this has happened to you. It really sucks when you have to stop every thing and get new ones.

While it is easy to point the finger at the banks and other sources,...look at your computer.

You may have spyware/trojan horse transmitting your info.

Also, use an anti-virus program. And turn on your firewall.

Sorry to hear that what had happened to you.

Im afraid what is culture going on to? With many money grubbers and lazy people who refuse to work and use easy get-rich-quick by stealing money.

I hope the person gets caught for this, cause people who commit this crime will not be gone unpunished.
