Back pain relief?
 

I have had such a backache for days now and I was wondering if anyone knows of any over the counter medicine that would help? I don't want to go to the Dr. because he'd probably want to give me a muscle relaxer. That's the last thing I need with two small kids! Look at how stoned Mommy is! :eek:

I'm going to try a heating pad this afternoon and see if that works a little. Any tips or advice? Thanks!

Be careful to not overdo the heating pad! It is best to alternate heat and ice. Sometimes the heating pad will make the muscles swell adding to the problem! I have had back problems since I was in elementary school and had back surgery 12 years ago, I've tried it all! Sometimes Aleve will help, but usually nothing I take helps, not even muscle relaxer! I strongly recommend a chiropractor...preferably one that is referred by someone you know. Most chiropractors have massage therapists now and they are great!

Can I use the heating pad for a short time? My back has been giving me problems for a few years now and I don't know why. Thank you so much!

I don't have any Aleve so I'm taking Advil but it doesn't seem to be helping much. :(

Sure..just make sure not to stay on it for too long a time...It is easy to do, trust me!! I've always heard to alternate 5 minutes heat and 5 minutes ice back and forth.

Advil doesn't work for me either...if you go to the store you may want to get some Aleve, i.e Naproxen Sodium...I always get the store brand.

I threw my back out lifting my daughter out of her crib, I am alergic to Aleve! I used those therma care back patchs and it worked like a charm! I put on on right before I went to bed and when I woke up in the morning my back felt so much better! I then wrapped a cold compress on my back using an ace bandage during the day and repeated the therma care patch the next night.

I'm currently home on disability for neck problems, so I've been to a lot of doctors lately...

First of all my orthopedist suggests moist heat. Wet towel in a plastic bag covered with a heating pad. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. Aleve is also recommended.

If it's degenerative disc disease the chiropractor will do more harm than good. Every one over 40 has DDD to some degree, and if you've had any kind of injuries it could be more developed than most.

My husband and I both have it. He had to have spinal fusion surgery on his lower back when he was in his mid 30s because of sports injuries. I had a bad fall last year and after the surgeries and all the broken bones were healed I thought I was okay. Then in November, I ruptured a disc in my neck. Evidently my fall had damaged the bones in my neck and now they are degenerated more than they should be for my age (46) and aren't as supportive as they should be, either.

If you've been having problems so long, you might want to get it checked. An x-ray will show them right away if there are degenerative disc problems. Also supplements seem to help. PM me if you want to know more...

Can someone go get some Aleve for you?
I really think it would help. I have a very bad back,
they gave me pain meds, but I don't like to take them
because you can't drive with them, and my children come first.
I found Aleve works best for me, I don't even wear my brace
as much anymore. :)

Thanks Sherry! I'm thinking maybe I should get it checked soon I'm just a big baby and put it off because I don't want to hear bad news which is so stupid! I really feel there's something more wrong than just throwing out my back now and then. I mean this time I don't remember doing anything that would warrant this pain.

So if I go to a Dr. I should go to an orthopedist?

That would be best since they are all about bones. ;) The one that I go to has about a half a dozen docs in one practice, so they can take the x-rays in their office, read them and tell you what's going on in a matter of minutes. If you are interested, I can give you info. (I actually have the number programmed on my phone!) They are supposed to be one of the best groups in the county.
