1 Attachment(s) That ring is definitely different than the "norm" but who cares about the norm?! If YOU like it, and especially the meaning beneath it, then that's all that matters. I think that ring is just gorgeous! The "diamond ring" thing is mostly common in the USA, I think....my best friend just got engaged in London and hers wasn't even a diamond at all, it was an amethyst! Congrats on your engagement, by the way! That's really exciting! |
It can be whatever you want. I always said I wouldn't mind a nice BIG emerald as my wedding ring stone. I love green. My bosses wife has a big sapphire as hers, it is beautiful. |
No, an engagement ring doesn't have to be traditional diamond! A good friend got a gorgeous Blue Sapphire engagement ring. My niece got a gorgeous Emerald with diamonds (her birth stone is emerald - his is diamond!) and many of us got heirloom rings as engagement rings. I think anything should be considered - back in the olden days any ring of precious material was considered as an engement ring - it's the intention that counts and what the woman would be comfortable and enjoy! I think yours is lovely! |
Beth, the woman with who I volunteered, was the first person I'd seen who has a saphire as an engagement ring. I'm quite suprised to hear that there are so many others. Is the saphire the traditional engagement stone for a certain country or culture, or am I just sheltered until now?! And I forgot to mention... congratulations on the engagement! |
Well this is alittle different but my best friend got proposed too and she went and got a tattoo on her wedding finger..one for her engagement ring than after they got married she went and got the band tattooed on her. It is all up to you what you want!! Congrats!! |

I think traditional engagement rings are pretty, but they get so *yawn*. Everyone and their grandma (literally) has one. I like to see people change it up a bit :p |
AWw, thanks everyone for Congratulating me. I know that I can always count on Yorkie Talk when I need some advice. I am so enjoying the pictures of the wedding and engagemnt rings that have been posted. THey are so beautiful. :) |
I have a Marquise diamond engagement ring with a small diamond on either side of it. I got that ring when I was only 17!! I've had it for 19 years now!! My wedding band was a plain gold band. With my lupus, my hands swelled really badly one day and I got my rings off, except for the wedding band. It got so bad, I had to get it cut off. I was heart broken. I asked my hubby to get it fixed. Well for Christmas this year he replaced it with a diamond eternity band! I was shocked to say the least. I think whatever makes you happy. I don't think it matters the cost either. My husband paid on my engagement ring for 6 years!!! He wanted to get me something big. It's what's in the heart that really matters. |

How sweet to get a great replacement for your wedding band. Two years ago we upgraded mine. I got a 1/2 carat Marquise diamond with 2 round and 2 bagettes on each side and a diamond anniversary band. I was completely shocked and surprised. I think the total weight of the new one is a carat not sure. I never thought I would have one that size. But, size doesn't matter. I love my old one just the same. |
I had a traditional wedding set, then when my mother died, I got her rings. I wear her engagement ring and hubby bought a wrap to go with it. I wear 4 rings, other than the engagement ring, he bought them all so I don't wear any kind of wedding band. My wedding set is in my jewelry box. When I look at it....gee, is THAT stone tiny tiney :) |
