Hot Flashes I just had a total hysterectomy in Sept. I have hot flashes mostly at night but what I really dont like is whe it interferes with my YT time. I have to go outside , cool down, and then come back. I't irritating. Don't want to take hormones because it seems to be my only menopause sympton for now.Can anyone else relate? :animal36 |
Totally! I am 53 and started with them about 2 years ago! I went on Zoloft for another reason and it almost completely stopped the hot flashes and other annoying symptoms of menopause. I know some doctors who are prescribing antidepressants for hot flashes if they get too bad. |
I can relate to the getting hot on YT and having to go outside to cool down, but not the hysterectomy/menopause part. :D Sorry, I have heard it is mightly unpleasant. Nothing cools me down like a good ole milkshake...now is you time to have a good excuse to drink one daily. |
I'm not there YET, but I have watched my mom deal with it for awhile now, NOT PLEASANT, not looking forward to it! :thumbdown When the hot flashes are coming she says, " I'm Flashing" |
I'm on Zoloft too, Patti! My doc gave me Zoloft, and it really helps with the night sweats especially. I am getting hot flashes a lot less during the day, too. I am 51, and pretty much started getting symptoms the day I turned 50, LOL!! My husband LOVES that I am on Zoloft!! He says it's "evened me out". Poor guy...lololol :p |
HAHAHA ! Those men .....I think at a certain age we ALL need to be on something...especially THEM ! :D :D :D I never got hot flashes but did get all that stuff early ....I'm on Lexapro now because of other 'symptoms' of women in their 40's & I think coping with my husbands illness has taken it's toll....and I just want the old me back .... :( Good luck finding something to control those flashes - I hear they're awful.... there is also Estravan sold over the counter that you may want to try ? |
Well, I too had surgery 4 yrs ago but I have been on estrogen replacement since then. I just turned 50 and last year I went to a more holistic type of hormone replacement and I have felt alot better than when I was on the synthetic estrogen. It is so annoying!!!!!!!!! a dirty trick of aging. |

Did you do something similar to Dr. Hortons Wellness Center ? did I get the name right ? |
Me too... Yes I am only 24 but I have been getting them since I was 16. Just a hormonal thing I am told and not that rare. I feel so silly at times at work when one comes on and I am fanning myself like crazy whereas everyone else is sitting comfy. :( BTW... It sucks to be a woman sometimes...one day I hope to be a boy for just a day so I can pee WHEREVER I want... STANDING! lol  |
Thanks For The Replies :) I feel like if you light a match I will combust! :( |
I used to be on estrogen/progestrin for HRT. Had no trouble with it and it really helped. Only a couple of hot flash episodes. But my doctor decided on one of my visits that I didn't really need it for hot flashes anymore, and there had been all that negative publicity about the heart problems with HRT. I have had nothing but problems since then....and I don't mean hot flashes! I wish I had switched doctors. |
Try this I'm 28 and have hot flashes too, but I can relate through my mom. She had a total histretomy(sp) in 2000. They wanted to put her on hormones but tried and gave her bad migraines. The GYN I see has helped me out so my mom went to her. She has suggested and my mom has done and is happy with New Phase not the extra strength just the regular has helped a lot with my mom. Now she's the one who gets cold and not me...my dad says we just confuse him too much :D Mind you the New Phase didn't help my mom's migraines (she has cronic daily ones) but it helped the other symptoms. |
Hate them!!!! It's been way over a year. How long do we have to put up with this crap? I think I'm driving my Husband nuts at night, Fan on fan off all night long.   |

Your thread reminds me of a friend suffering hot flashes. She said one night....her hubby sat straight up in the bed and told her WE have to do something about these hot flashes. I've had a couple plus a few other symptoms. Went to the doctor, did the bloodwork, he says Nah, you're not in menopause, it's a fluke....told him...well, how bout I call you at 3AM, maybe then you'll see the problem then and rethink the diagnosis |
