Scuba test today! Wish me luck!
 

I got my motorcycle license at 40 so at 50 I decided to try something else equally as challenging! As some of you know, I have been taking an open water certification course for the past two weeks, and today is the final exam! I am not too too worried as I have been studying in between YT breaks (lol) and I have been aceing all the quizzes, so I think I will be alright. It's the actual water skills that make me nervous, as I am NOT a swimmer!! LOL! Isn't it funny to be a non-swimmer and want to scuba? OK, I could probably save myself in a pinch, but I had to do the try out prequalification with fins, mask, and snorkle as there was no way I could do a 10 lap free swim, lol, and survive. :eek:

I am going to Ginny Springs in Fl at the end of Feb to get my final certification on the water skills part. Our instructor has promised that he will come back to the YMCA the week before we leave for the trip and help us practise for the underwater exam. You have to remove your mask underwater, put it back on and clear it, you have to do some neutal buoyancy testing, and other cool but strange things. I am scared to fail, lol! :(

Part of the Ginny Springs trip is snorkeling with manatees! :p I am pretty excited about that! Should be a blast!

ANYWAY!!! Please wish me luck today with the 50 question test! I have to get off YT here pretty darn soon and go study!! :p

I got a 98 on my 50 question test!!! YIPPEE!! I am so psyched! Now I just have to pass the underwater skills testing next month when we go to Ginny Springs! :eek:

The only question I missed was one of the simplest ones on the test!!! I firmly feel I accidentally filled in the wrong selection box, lol!! DORK!! :p

And it asked an elemental question on the first steps of reading the dive table. DUH!! I got THAT one wrong and I got a dive table three consecutive dive question RIGHT??? Oh yeah, very dumb fill-in-the-box error!! Oh well!! I try so hard to be perfect, and I screw up, lol! :D

We are off to Florida and my eventual open water certification!! Please, all you wonderful FL people, order nice weather for the next 4 days, OK??

Part of our trip is also to snorkel with manatees! Should be WONDERFUL!

You will do fine. I am an advanced scuba diver. I've been diving for over 10 years and I love it. Too bad we can't take our babies diving. LOL. You have to go to Turks and Caicos. I've visited many islands, but that one is my favorite. Good Luck!

I appreciate the encouragement, especially coming from an advanced diver! Yes, I have heard the Turks and Caicos diving is incredible! I am also looking forward to the reefs around Cozumel one of these fine days! See, everyone? The cool thing about getting your certification is after that, you have to USE it!! And of course, WARM water diving is so much more preferable... LOLOL!!

I PASSED!!

I am now a Certified Open Water/Nitrox Scuba Diver!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE!!!

My friends and family have always told me I was "certifiable", but I am pretty sure they weren't talking about THIS, lol!! What an amazing experience!

We began our FL dive trip in Crystal Springs and Homassasa FL. We also did a drift dive in Rainbow River. My actual certification dive took place in Ginny Springs in front of the Grand Ballroom Cavern.

I was too busy to take a whole lot. Part of the trip was also a manatee encounter, and there are a couple shadowy pictures of the two manatees we spent an hour playing with. One of them weighed about 2,500 pounds!! It was MASSIVE! They would be floating along, and they would slip underneath you and then raise up and bump you up into the air! We scratched their backs, tickled their bellies and made them roll over like pups, and played with them until we were exhausted and cold. The water and air were in the low 70s.

I will have my "graduation" photos some time this week and will post them! Many thanks to everyone for all of your wonderful words and terrific support! I appreciated it very much!
