Stolen Yahoo Idenity?info and pics
 

My daughter is so scared someone had pmed her on Yahoo and when she asked who they was that then allowed them to add her to their list and she put them on ignore and still they would come back with a diff name untill last night They have took over her ideinty. They sent her one last message telling her that once she logs off yahoo that they have changed her password and that she will never be able to get on with that name and password again cause they had changed the password. well It was true. I copied the girls name down that did this to her . My daughter was talking to me at the time it was happening . anyways I went to this persones profile and about pissed my self there on her profile she is also useing my daughters picture and the only way they could of gotten that picture is going thru her computer and taking it out of her Document folder. whats so sad is they know alot about my daughter and is even calling her by her nickname that we used when she was little.I have turned it in and yahoo is now doing a investigation. But they also tell me we need to contact our local law enforcement agency.I just wanted to let you all know , Mostly the ones with Yahoo.If you get a message from someone you dont know.dont answer it, Once you do They have you.

it is so scary what kind of info people can get off of our computers isnt it. I hope that you and your daughter get this figured out quick. Computer hackers are very smart and can do some real damage if she had any cc info on her computer I hope that it doesnt go that far.

That sucks ....things are almost too big on the net to control - I don't know how she got that picture - it's possible your daughter has an online album ? I would be SO upset too but hopefully yahoo will do what they can - but if someone WANTS to do this - there's not too many ways to put a stop to it -

she can just keep signing up under different names....I have a feeling this happens all over the place and we just don't know it until we hear about something bad.

The sad thing is she isn't a kid and is using that picture in a bad way.

I know it requires a sighn on name and a password. . . there are programs that can break passwords., is that how it happened?

Does your virus program guard against this? I wonder if you need to put something on your daughters computer better then what you may already have. I don't know much about this so ask around. My friend has something called Zone Alarm. It was a free download, it sends him a popup everytime someone or some program tries to access his computer. It will ask you if you want to accept or deny. Kind of annoying because it happens a lot. Maybe you could set it though to just automatically deny and not pop up. ????

I am computer illiterate, too. But it sure does seem that you should be able to put a stop to that kind of stuff. Every link I tried I got the "Page not available" so maybe yahoo is keeping on top of it. I sure hope so. Identity theft is so scary!!

Debbie, ask your daughter if she received an email from yahoo asking to confirm her password before all of this happened? Also, ask your daughter whom she talked to or had fights with either online or off. Maybe she shared some info/photos without realizing whom she was dealing with? It is hard to break yahoo passwords by a novice and a pro will not need your daughter's picture. So, it was either someone she knew or someone got her info without her knowing it (phishing email). Stealing a picture from your daughter's computer is also unlikely. Talk to your daughter, alone.
