I would keep an extra eye out for her when she is outside now. You don't know what she got a taste of while she was loose. She may have found something she really likes and will try extra hard to get back to it.

Addition to this... how about getting her a tag that on the collar? Like sewed in or a plate that you grommet in. I've heard several times lost dogs would've been found sooner but the tags broke off the collar.

(While typing this, Magnus just drooled a puddle on my bed... -_-: I forgot he was waiting for me to give him his treat..)

We got her a new lead. One that's a little heavier. I am on the search for a new tag for her. She hasn't done anything like this in quite a while.....and based on how she is going out, pottying and then coming right back to the door to come in I am thinking she had her fun and learned her lesson! We are still being very watchful of her anyway. I think she thought it would be fun.....but she's still pretty sore in her hips....she's acting fine other than that.

Sounds like she goes out for potty business in the yard, unattended? "....going out, pottying, then coming back to the door........." sounds like she goes out unattended to do potty???? I can PROMISE you, she is not the one that has a lesson to be learned from this!!!!...... she will pull the same thing again, or someone will just pick her up and keep her off the street.........or she will just get unlucky and run off again and get hit by a car. How does that saying go....."Run away once, shame on YOU.....run away twice, shame on ME.....".

She goes out the back door and I usually wait for her. Since we don't have a fence any more I worry about the pits that run loose around here. The lead she was on has been being used for about 6 months.....it's one of those coated cables. They get weak and I should have replaced it but didn't realize it was getting so worn. The night she broke free I took a load of clothes out of the dryer and took it inside. By the time I came back she was gone.she goes in and out about 100 times a day these days....and typically she goes out, does her business and comes back in while I or my husband stands at the door.
