I can't sleep.... Our 13 year old husky was let out on her lead to go potty. I brought a basket of laundry inside, set it down and went back to get her and she was gone. She broke her lead. I have been driving around since 11 looking for her and finally came home. Now I can't sleep. I keep going to the doors to see if she's come home..... |
Bless your heart....when my uncles who used to have hunting dogs, would loose a hunting dog in the woods, he always put his jacket down somewhere he had been hunting with the dogs that day....the lost dog would go to his jacket and stay close to his coat until my uncle went the next morning to see if he had turned up.....those hunting dogs always turned up on his coat within a day or two....I am so sorry for you and I know you are devastated.....praying your Husky comes home..... Is your dog microchipped?????!!! Praying she is.......if you cant sleep, make signs to put out tomorrow....and make a list of all the vet offices nearby, to be on the lookout for a new patient, a husky. |
She is microchipped....she should still have her collar on with part of her lead attached. Her collar has her rabies and her name tag....I called animal control and left my info and her description. She's just so old now....I'm terribly worried about her. This is the second time she's run off...the first was when she was a little over a year old and she came home some time during the night and was sleeping on the porch. She smelled like dead animal and cow poop but I didn't care! I'm hoping she will come home this time.... |
How terrible, praying your baby returns or is found. |
I'm so sorry for your situation. I wouldn't be able to sleep either if that happened to either one of my furbutts. Is she wearing a tag? There ARE good people out there and is willing to go the extra mile to help a dog so keep positive! Hope to hear that she came home very soon!!!! |
My family had a Husky and they are great escape artists...will dig under a fence to go somewhere. He'd be in someone's garage or something. Drive or walk around the neighborhood and tell people to keep a look out for her. Call shelters and vets that are around to let them know if someone calls about finding a husky. Praying she is home soon! |
I forgot to mention. There's an app called "finding rover". There's both lost/found option. Whenever there's a missing cat/dog in my area, I get a notice. I've registered both Magnus and Zoey as well. Wouldn't hurt to try? |
Please post when you find your baby! Hopefully all is well. |
Oh my word! She came home! I spent a lot of time on the phone.. I'm sitting on the couch and I thought I heard something thump the front door....open it and nothing. Called her name. Nothing. Went to the back porch called her name.....nothing. just as I'm closing the door she comes flying up the back steps! She's wet and exhausted and seems a little sore in her poor arthritic hips but she drank some water licked my hands and went into her kennel.....she has been sleeping in her kennel since 2! She's still wearing her collar but her tags are gone and the part of the broken lead is gone as well. I don't know where she was or what she was doing but I'm thankful she is home! I did a quick check over and other than her achy hips there's no visible signs of any injuries....now I just need to call everyone back and tell them she's home! |
so happy to hear of this good outcome |
Wonderful news!!! I'm so happy to hear she's back home! Thank you for updating. Poor thing must be so tired. |
She's exhausted. Winnie has been "standing gaurd" (more like sleeping gaurd haha) in front of her kennel. I put a little blanket down for Winnie because she was trying to climb in the kennel with Misha...but Misha isn't in the mood for company inside. Thank you all for your concern though.....I was just beside myself! |
Great news! She is home! :) |
Great news! I was so worried it was not going to be a happy ending |
Yeah!!!!!!!!!! Once she's recovered she will tell you all about it. Rest, food, more rest and she will be good as new. |
I would keep an extra eye out for her when she is outside now. You don't know what she got a taste of while she was loose. She may have found something she really likes and will try extra hard to get back to it. |

(While typing this, Magnus just drooled a puddle on my bed... -_-: I forgot he was waiting for me to give him his treat..) |
Wonderful news she's home. Thank you for updating. |
We got her a new lead. One that's a little heavier. I am on the search for a new tag for her. She hasn't done anything like this in quite a while.....and based on how she is going out, pottying and then coming right back to the door to come in I am thinking she had her fun and learned her lesson! We are still being very watchful of her anyway. I think she thought it would be fun.....but she's still pretty sore in her hips....she's acting fine other than that. |

Sounds like she goes out for potty business in the yard, unattended? "....going out, pottying, then coming back to the door........." sounds like she goes out unattended to do potty???? I can PROMISE you, she is not the one that has a lesson to be learned from this!!!!...... she will pull the same thing again, or someone will just pick her up and keep her off the street.........or she will just get unlucky and run off again and get hit by a car. How does that saying go....."Run away once, shame on YOU.....run away twice, shame on ME.....". |
She goes out the back door and I usually wait for her. Since we don't have a fence any more I worry about the pits that run loose around here. The lead she was on has been being used for about 6 months.....it's one of those coated cables. They get weak and I should have replaced it but didn't realize it was getting so worn. The night she broke free I took a load of clothes out of the dryer and took it inside. By the time I came back she was gone.she goes in and out about 100 times a day these days....and typically she goes out, does her business and comes back in while I or my husband stands at the door. |
