New Home Owner I toyed with the idea of purchasing a house for various reasons past Thursday. Started looking on Friday and saw few more homes during open house over the weekend. Put in a offer on Monday (yesterday). Owners accepted today. And BAM! Now I'll be a home owner. I know I should be excited but..... I'm having mixed feelings. I feel like I'm being forced to "grow up". ROFL  I'll probably be posting asking for advice on the best ways to transition my furries to the new home as comfortable as possible. :D |
Congratulations! Owning a new home is a big step in life. It is a lot of work but the sense of pride that comes with it is well worth it. |
Hey, way to go! Scary, but so much fun. After you find your nitch you'll be saying "why didn't I do this sooner. Best wishes! |
Congratulations!! Wishing you lots of happiness in your new home. |
Congratulations new home owner. Don't worry that little kid in you will never leave. |
Well if you were already prequalified for that range in house price, then you should be fine. I have always felt the biggest waste of money was paying rent. Now you are a home owner! Congrats! As far as transitioning the fur butts... let them go for a walk before going in for the first time. Take them outside often. Toto is my bad boy. If he needs to go, he will just go. He doesn't tell me. So I take him outside before he needs to go. We bought a brand new home last year and he peed in several places. We found out when we ripped out the carpet to put in laminate. The reality hit me when I saw all the pee so I take him out every two hours or so. |
Congrats! I was a first time buyer three years ago. The freedom you have in your new house will be amazing. Share some pics! I love house design! happy for you! |
Oh wow - CONGRATS!!!! So excited and happy for you! You will love it, you really will. I think having some second thoughts is normal...sorta like "omg...what have I done NOW!?" type thing. The investment will be great - it's a good time to buy right now, generally speaking. Can't wait to hear more! |

Yep! This is me a well. Second thoughts and all. I'm closing on our new home on the 30th and selling the one I'm living in Oct 30. This is the 7th home I've bought/sold (we're a military family) and it's spooky every time. Trust me... when you decide to paint the walls, you'll appreciate the fact that you don't have to ask for permission. But I swear every time something broke I wished I was renting still! |
4 Attachment(s) Thanks everyone! I'm closing on 10/15 assuming everything goes smoothly with the inspection and all. Not sure about move in date as I do want to get some stuff done to the house before actually moving in. It is a good buy and I got it less than asking price. :D My furries will now have a backyard to play in!!!!!!! It's not huge yard but it's so much better than the patio space they have now. lol Here are some pics. Attachment 407564 Attachment 407565 Attachment 407566 Attachment 407567 |

What a beautiful home! Now wonder you put an offer on it. How exciting! I love the tiered deck! The whole house just oozes class! What changes are you planning? (Forgive me. I'm an interior designer) |

The only major change I want to make is to remodel the half bath to full bath on the main floor. Also, it's getting harder for my mom to walk up the stairs so we're thinking of taking up part of the "dining room" and putting the bed there. I don't need the den so they can use that as their walk in closet. I'm trying to decide on a portable fire pit or having one built in the back... |

However, I'd be happy to offer my input. That is a versatile home you have there. You can go in quite a few different directions. You're welcome to pm me. ;) Have you looked into a chair lift for the stairs? It might be less expensive. Honestly, I think the first thing I would do is replace the fence so the pups can't escape :) |
Wow, that is a dream home! Love the coffered ceilings, the wainscoting, the HUGE kitchen, the deck, everything! |

I'll probably end up pming you for some ideas/suggestions. :D Quote:
One very big reason I chose this house is b/c it's less than 10 min from my work! And again, the price was really good for what it is... :D |
Lovely, lovely home. Yes I see several hazards for your pups. Not only the fence but the balcony and stairs where they could slip through and fall. |
Wow your kitchen now must be gigantic then! I see in the pic double ovens, cooktop on the island... Does that mean you have a pop up hood? How does the smoke get sucked up? I hate how we have our microwave over the cooktop so the hood is underneath and the oil gets all over the MW. What year was the house built? I never see those interior details like the wainscoting nowadays unless it's a custom house or you add it afterwards. I love hose old style details. I love casing around windows too. How many square ft? It just looks so big! |
Karen your house is gorgeous and huge. New yard for babies, they'll be sooo happy. Good luck. |
Georgous home . Really big for a Yorkie. Don't let him get lost in there Ha! |
Absolutely lovely:D |
buddybear: Yeap! Noticed that too. Luckily, it's an easy fix so will definitely get done before we move in. Capt: Current house is slightly smaller but the kitchen is bigger only b/c of the layout. The living room in the new house is MUCH bigger than current though. Not sure about the cooktop. I didn't take a close look but I'm guessing it has a pop up vent since I didn't see any hood for it. The house was built 2005 and living space is over 5,000 (including basement). And when you say "casing" around the windows, are you talking about the curtains? I was told those were custom made. Lucky for me, they're leaving them so I don't have to worry about getting new curtains. LOL Joan/Yorkiemini: Thank you!!! Shicks: You mean "don't let them pee/poo all over in there!" LOL |
Gorgeous home! Congratulations again. Max and Teddy say that it looks like perfect for running, chasing, playing fetch. No furniture needed. :D Awesome commute  If your mom gets a chair lift, my dad will be envious. We wish too that we had a full bath on the first floor. |

HOLY SH**. I am so jealous and happy for you LOL. That is a huge house. We had one before (which we lost in the recession) that was 3500 for the two of us and it was way too much house. Casing around the windows are like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=vict...w=1173&bih=611 Awesome it was built in 2005. Old style look but you don't have to deal with an actual old house with old house problems. |
LOVE the pics - so much space! The wood floors look spotless, as does everything else. Love the black countertops, can't go wrong with those. Is one of those fireplaces in the Master? If so, love. Can't wait to see the decorating (btw, have you seen our Home Sweet Home thread here in Off Topic...lots of decorating talk there...). I love decorating/styling! |

Wow that is one HUGE house for a first home, do you have a family that will be living in it with you. Is that the master bedroom with the step up space in front of the fireplace, if so what will the upper portion be a sitting room. also the large carpeted area is that the basement? it looks like what we call a walk out basement in MI, that is so cool that it is finished, the place looks in amazing shape I would have thought it was brand new. I love all the traditional touches, you bought a really beautiful house. We also have a see through fireplace in the bedroom/bath and we love it. |

Do you mean like this:D Actually this was my last yorkie Kirby and for some reason I never worried he would go through, perhaps because he was so laid back and did not play. But when I got Lola she started to push her toy through the posts and liked watching it hit the floor, so I bought white plastic lattice and cut it down to size and now we have that on the two areas on our upstairs landing |

We went through the inspection today. Other than the usual wear/tear from the age of the house, the inspector said it was in pretty good shape. As beautiful as this house is, one of the BEST thing about it is that it's only 6-7 min from my work!!!! And this is during traffic time! Oh, and lets not forget the snow... There's no sidewalk in front of the house so the only shoveling we have to do is the driveway and path to the front door. :D I'm sure everyone that has to deal with snow storms understand the joy of this. lol |
