This is exactly what I did when I went through having my purse stolen at work years ago.....I copied everything in my wallet! Now, I just carry one emergency credit card! |
Ann, I am so very sorry about your horrible, terrible, sad, most tragic Monday EVER! I haven't been around much lately so I'm playing catch-up. I hope that by now things are settling down now and getting back to "normal". So glad that the scumbags who took your car weren't interested in paying a personal bedside visit and that everyone inside slept through the whole horrible event. No telling who may have been injured had you woken up and tried to stop the lowlife in the middle of his/her dastardly deed. |

Ann, how are you doing? Has there been any word on your car? How long do you have to wait B4 your insurance company settles with you so you can get a new car? |

No news at all. I'm going to phone the police dept on Monday w/ my case number to see if they ever got anything off of the prints they dusted for on my husband's car. And then as far as insurance, they have you wait 20 days. If your car isn't recovered after 20 days, then they declare a total loss and figure out what they'll pay you. If it goes that way, I just hope somehow it's fair and doesn't end up screwing us over too much :(. |
Glad you are feeling better Ann and hope today brings you some good news. |

They will give you market value for your car on the basis of average condition. If you dispute the offer, it is up to you to provide proof that your car is worth more i.e. newspaper ads of a similar vehicle and the sale price. However, they could counter your proof with alternate proof of their own so it's up to you to decide how far to push the issue if it arises! Sorry that you're having to go through this.. I know it is annoying, frustrating, time consuming and just not needed. I hate that people still get away with these kinds of things despite all the technology etc! |
So, they caught the guy who stole my car and he is in jail - but no news about the car. Yesterday, the officer assigned to the case stopped by our house to give me back my "stuff" -- of which, it was only my drivers license, my 2 canceled cards, and my users manuals for my car (he took pictures of all of it for evidence). They caught the guy driving another stolen car, and in the trunk was alllll this stuff - including my stuff AND my car's license plates! He had stuff in there stolen from FIFTEEN different victims! He even stole from his own Mom, apparently, but she is not pressing charges. I forgot to ask the officer why he isn't yet giving me my plates back...perhaps bc they're more important in evidence than my IDs etc...? You should have seen the officer's car - he said he was going around on Sunday to return some of the stuff to people - he had 5 purses in there, wallets, clothes, a fur coat, shoes/boots - he said he felt like Santa Claus :p. As far as asking him about my car, the officer said the guy said he "never saw the car in his life" -- um, yeah, sure.  If nothing else, this guy is going down for possession of stolen property from 15 people and for stealing that other car. JERK. At least he's off the streets for a while. |
Ann, I am very happy to hear the police caught the thief! How frustrating though that the guy claims he never saw your car.:( What a weirdo that he kept your car manuals. Although your car isn't back, I'm glad you don't have to worry about this guy being out there. 15 victims, and I bet there were more. :( |
Good news that they caught the guy, wow fifteen other people who were violated by this man. Ugh. |
I am happy to see that there is some hope of justice in your case. It is possible that this guy does not work alone, and is part of a car theft ring where some do the actual stealing and some do the selling of the cars, parts, and stuff. Happy that the police are releasing possessions quickly instead of holding them until trial. Sending some good vibes your way Ann, and hoping for better days ahead. |
Well thanks to everyone's theft "education" I am now shopping alarm systems. I am petrified that someone would break into the house when my Cali is there alone and something would happen to her! Anyone familiar with SimpliSafe? |
Glad they caught the loser! |

That would help me "deal" psychologically a lot better, knowing the slug that had sneaked into my garage and stole my car and everything in it is now in the old pokey and not out looting other good folks of their favorite cars, purses and goods. Heavens, stealing a woman's purse and all that's in it is like stealing part of her life! Glasses, sunglasses, heck, just the cosmetics alone, can be worth a small fortune, let alone the wallet's contents. Hopefully they can find out if he was part of a mini-gang of thieves and round all of them up. Imagine - stealing from you own mom! Guess that's about as low as it goes. GTK he's out of circulation and I pray you get your car back in pristine condition or a fair settlement. Showing your insurance company all the precautions you are now taking to avoid being a future victim will help in your future dealings with them, believe me. |
