Anyone with migraine experience?
 

I'll try to make this short. I have a long history of migraines, I've been dealing with them for years. I have always been able to feel them coming on, and they are definitely painful being they are migraines. My biggest issue has always been light sensitivity when I've had them, and about 40-50% of the time, I vomit.

Last night, I was fine.I had been feeling fine all day and everything was normal. Out of nowhere, my neck (which I never had any neck issues with migraines) and my head starting throbbing instantly. I went from a zero pain to a ten+ pain in thirty seconds. It nearly knocked me off my feet. I barely made it upstairs to get my husband to come down and watch the kids. By the time I got upstairs, I was disoriented, confused, and couldn't even get out a full sentence due to the pain. I immediately started vomiting. Twice I had to stop and lay on the floor while walking from the bathroom to the living room. The pain was so bad, I was moaning at an almost screaming level. I have had three children and have never, ever been in the pain I was in.

The severe pain lasted throughout the entire night and most of today (about 6pm last night to about 4pm today). I am feeling quite a bit better, but still not completely where I should be. I will be DEFINITELY seeing my doctor next week as I just barely decided against the ER today, but I'm trying to get some thoughts from others who may have any experience with anything similar. Any thoughts or insights are appreciated...thanks in advance.

I have had migraines maybe 5 times a year. I can feel it coming on and take 3 Bufferins (aspirin) and get into my bedroom with no lights or noise of any kind. I have had it where I will throw up but I just need to get laying down.

Your experience with being disoriented, confused and couldn't get a sentence out is something you definitely need to address with your doctor. I hope you feel better but if things continue like this I wouldn't wait for next week...better to be checked out at the E.R.

Thanks for your reply. I have to say, I may be going sooner rather than later. I'm still not feeling great and the more research I do, the more scared I get. My symptoms are directly aligned with leaking or ruptured aneurysm :/

PLEASE do go to the Doctor and PLEASE, PLEASE request that you have Head CT Scan or MRI done.

I'm not trying to scare you here, BUT I lost a friend 8 months ago, who had been complaining of headaches and had the same issues you are having and her Doctor just Rx'd her different Migraine med's. NEVER once did they even suggest having scans.

IF this had been done they would have known it was an Aneurysm.

SO PLEASE SEE A DOCTOR ASAP.

Oh gosh hon...I'd actually recommend you see your doc ASAP on this one bc of the sudden severity of it, and bc of the new/unusual symptoms that accompanied this h/a. For pain this severe, I actually think you should've gone to the ER while it was happening. The disorientation really concerns me as well. Please see a doc asap.

Bobbi, I have had migraines for years. I know the pain they bring and the symptoms from them. Still, your symptoms scare me, and I really think you need to go today to an ER just to rule out an aneurism. Please feel better.

Bobbi, I hope you are feeling better today and you update us on how you are doing. I agree with the others that you still should see your doctor and explain exactly what you were feeling. Please let us know how you are, ok?

Thanks everyone for your concern. I am feeling mostly better today, and if things stay this way, I will be seeing my doctor Monday for a referral. If it gets worse again, I will go directly to the ER. I appreciate the replies.

I REALLY do urge you to do this ASAP!! I also had a co worker fall over unresponsive onto her keyboard, experiencing this very thing....with a history similar to all of us with migraines......her office mate knew the neurologist at the hospital, grabbed the phone called his extension, and they saved her life. Please, go ASAP!!

I had a 4 day severe headache that started in my shoulders upper back and neck and worked up to the back and sides of my head within 15 minutes back in May, so severe I was too nauseated and miserable to even drive to the E.R., let alone sit for 3 hours waiting, or I would have gone several times during that awful episode. It was awful! My head hurt too bad to even move or think! Even after it went away, for the best part of a month I had a ghost sensation of the pain lurking in my neck, back of head, about to strike again, and several, almost as bad, severe headaches that lasted much shorter periods of time - shorter I think because I would take the medication as soon as the symptoms started to fire up. The pain was so bad that I was nauseated, dizzy and could only lie about and whine. I had something called Esgic for the headache and generic generic or diazepam for the muscle spasm that I took to tide me over until I could get in to see a specialist and if I took them the minute the neck pain started, I could keep the headache from being one of those long ones. Sometimes I would drape a thick towel over my shoulders, neck and the back of my head and stand under a hot shower until I was fried but it helped stave off the bad headache by rushing blood and much-needed oxygen to the spasmodic areas and keep them from knotting up, cutting off blood circulation to the tissues.

Saw an orthopedic surgeon finally and was told it was related to neck pathology - arthritis, disc desiccation, nerve root irritation, etc. and given 6 weeks PT, steam packs and ice therapy which strengthened the muscles in the front of the neck, stretched those in the back and sides and stopped the headaches, thankfully. I couldn't stand to go through that again so I'm probably going to go back and have another round of PT next time I feel anything similar to the beginning of that same shoulder, upper back or neck pain starting up. The orthopedic surgeon said he would likely order an MRI if the trouble persisted and then possibly to a neurologist depending upon what the MRI showed.

I sure hope you get to the bottom of what is causing yours and find some treatment that works. That neck pain radiating into the head is completely disabling. I'll be praying for you.

Oh my God, that sounds horrible. My mom gets nasty migraines with that same extreme light sensitivity and my brother does to a much lesser extent, but neither has experienced anything like that. I count myself lucky I have never had one considering my family history. Take care of yourself, BobbiB. :)

I've never, ever experienced what you're going through - but my daughter used to (mainly round exam-time, so maybe it was stress related?) at one point she was actually kind of frothing from her mouth....:(

Morning everyone. Just wanted to give a little update. I did end up going to the ER last night because my pain started worsening again. They did a CT, and thank goodness, it was clear. Seems the problem is hypertension...my BP was 167/93!! So, for the time being, I am taking some blood pressure meds and in the long term, I'm making some lifestyle changes. I'm going to lose a bit of weight (not much because really, I'm not considered overweight, just the high side of normal), eat better, and most importantly....QUIT SMOKING!

So happy that they've given you the all-clear, inasmuch as they've got to the root cause. It will probably relieve your mind greatly - which will help your head, hopefully :)

My prayers will go to you Bobbi. What a frightening ordeal to go through. Hypertension is nothing to igmore. I am so happy you are serious about changing into a healthier lifestyle. Do what you can and leave the rest up to the Lord. If you want real peace seek Him. Sit quietly and just meditate on His word. Studies show meditation really helps calm the soul and relax us. I love my quiet time. I tend to be on the go and hyper and I need the down time to just chill. Jesus tells us, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives to you. Bobbi, you will experience peace like no other. I know that there is no peace to be found in this world, just in Jesus.
