Exactly! It's like when the World was coming to an end as we knew when the clock struck Midnight on 01/01/00......the megachurch in our neighborhood had emergency preparedness seminars selling dehydrated food, wood burning stoves, electric generators to thousands of people for untold amounts of money. They piled into the church by the thousands to listen to Pastor Robb preach how the bible said......then nothing.:facepalm: It's amazing how people can be so easily brainwashed or swayed into these money making schemes. Hype, hype, hype then nothing! You would think that people would learn from the past how it's the media that hypes up these things for rating and $$$$$$ :thumbdown Everything now has a name......The Polar Vortex :shocked7q Ebola Pandemic :panic: it's just ridiculous and makes me shutdown. Then you go on Facebook and it's even more craziness with all kinds of outright made up cr@p for whatever agenda fits the current news bite. OK.....now I'm getting off my soapbox to finish cleaning floors and shampooing furniture. ;)

I believe there is cause for big concern about ebola. It could become the pandemic of our era, but I agree that everything is being sensationalized for maximum news organization benefit.

I stopped watching TV news years ago. Print news frustrates me enough when I see they can't get basic historical facts correct. How am I supposed to trust anything else they have to say?

TOTALLY agree and have thought this for a long time. Back in the 90s, I read a book called "The Hot Zone: The Terrifying True Story of the Origins of the Ebola Virus" -- SO freakin' fascinating. Tells all about how we unleashed this virus ourselves by destroying parts of the rain forest, specifically Kitum Cave and parts along the Kinshasa Hwy - where ebola was born. After reading that book, I always thought eventually, ebola would be our version of the 16th century plague.

And if it does ever become airborne, holy heck, it will be beyond what we could ever imagine in terms of losses and world changes.

I'll have to look for the book, although, I'm not sure I want to know this stuff. :eek: Looking at the stats on ebola cases on wikipedia is scary enough.

If ebola becomes airborne, it will be devastating. Even if it doesn't, the numbers in Africa right now are scary enough. The only thing that stopped much smaller outbreaks in the past were strict quarantines of entire villages. We are beyond that stage.

My Grandmom has an appointment with her cardiologist this week, they just called to ask if she's had a fever due to the Eboloa crisis.

We live in NJ so that's odd/extreme.

We have a meeting today with some folks from West Africa, promise I will be careful, but I'm actually looking forward to meeting these people I've only emailed with for sometime now.


I live in NY and I live in the 2nd biggest city in NY, there are 2 crossings to Canada here and we get boat loads of landed refugees (excuse the pun). We have 62 schools some of them the majority of students speak other than English (ESL). We have students who speak Keiran, Swahili, Chinese, Sudanese Japanese, Spanish, Somali omg...so many to mention but needless to say foreign people are part of my everyday life, I work with them, I live with them, I help them....I love them. Here is a tidbit- Do you know what the official language of Liberia is? English!!!!!

Yesterday my husband had an app with the dr and the nurse asked him if he had Ebola. Then she asked if he had contact with anyone from West Africa. Finally, getting serious about this.

Yes they do seem to be getting serious about it. I had a doctor appt this past Monday, and I was asked as well if I had any contact with anyone from West Africa or had been around any one that had.

I guess since I live in a suburb of Dallas, most Doctor's Office's are asking this.
I see it as a CYA Question.

So the nurse/doctor asked him to diagnosis himself with Ebola? I'm sorry but this is just ridiculous.

Interesting that they're now asking about this...wonder if they're doing it in more places, or generally just in places where there has been a regional case..?

What the hell lynzy??? You're getting Ebola, and I'm coming to visit in 3 weeks??? Don't you give that crap to me!! Also, if you could order jo some warm weather for that weekend, that would be great. Us Texans don't know how to deal with snow or really cold weather. Mkay... Thanks.
