Two Hurricanes headed my way The first is expected to hit this evening and may impact for 8 hrs, then another is coming a day behind it. I've done all I can to prepare, now we just wait, and pray that it doesn't do a lot of damage. It may be a wild night here with my 3 doggies. Schools are closed, state of emergency has been declared in advance, buses will be parked, mall and many stores are closing, county workers are off at noon; stores have run out of bottled water, canned goods and toilet paper, and incoming shipments have been canceled for a few days. The last hurricane in Hawaii was 22 years ago and there have only been 3 since 1950. Not happy to be facing 2 right now. Send some good thoughts our way please. |
Hurricanes OMG, that is scary! Sounds like you are all prepared for the worst, but hope that never happens. I am amazed that this is the first in 22 years, I wonder why these are going to hit now. Praying the two centers keep clear of you and that the damage is zero or minimal. Take care of yourselves and the babies. They might, if the rain does come, have to put their booties on to go outside. My boy is really scared of storms but I hope yours don't mind. Good wishes, thoughts and prayers. Please let is know how you are doing. Dot |
Wow, does not sound like fun. Make sure to check in when you can so we know everything's ok, Sandy. |
Thinking of you, Ahi's Mom, and Island Girl, sending positive thoughts for your safety and for your homes. I hope you can check in to let us know you are okay. |
Sandy, my family are thinking of you all 'over there' from us 'over here'....stay very safe, check-in when you can....and all our very best thoughts and prayers are winging their way to you from across the ocean :). Love and big hugs from Sally, Andy + Harry xxx |
Thinking of you and your family and babies, from a "hurricane sister"....been there, done that several times. I will be praying for your safety....I have always felt very safe and able to withstand a Cat 3 storm....Cat four, and I am outta here! I think they are saying the one coming your way is a Cat 1 or it may be down graded to a TS before it crosses the islands....The constant roaring winds and the noise from the winds terrify me...where I am located, storm surge/rising water is not a problem....I pray it is downgraded to a TS before it crosses you....during hurricanes I always crate my dogs so I have my hands on them....dont want a terrified pup hiding in case we need to get out! Be sure you have all your information for the pups together and in hand, in plastic zip lock bags. I am up all night at different times, in case you just want to reach out and know someone else is up.....as long as you have electricity, or computer service, if you want, email me...ladyofrosehill@aol.com. |
Sending prayers and tons of good thoughts it doesn't do any damage. It has to be scary just waiting for it to hit. Stay safe |
Keeping you and your babies in my prayers!! |
Thank you all for your thoughts. It gets rather scary watching all the news warnings on tv. My 30 yr. old, 2 story house is mostly glass on 2 sides, so flying debris is worrisome; and I'm ocean front, so wild waves is another threat. I really hate that it will happen at night in the dark when I can't see what is going on out there. My dog carriers, leashes, food and water are already in the car in case I have to evacuate. Since it will hit the Big Island of Hawaii first, I'm hoping that passing over the 14,000' volcanic craters will knock the punch out of the storm before it hits Maui. I feel bad for the tourists who are here to have a nice vacation and now face this. |
Sandy, I have been thinking of you since I first saw this on the news and was really hoping the storms would miss Hawaii. Like Yorkiemom1 I have sat through a few of these and each one is different. For Hurricane Ike we decided to stay home and with our house boarded up I had my husband bring in 2 life jackets and a sledge hammer just in case our 2 story home flooded. I have been to the small island before and can just imagine how wicked the water can be during a storm. On North Shore I could not stand in water up to my knees without getting knocked down so I would not want to be there during a tropical storm or hurricane. Please stay safe and keep us posted. I will continue to pray that the storms miss Hawaii!! I will keep checking back to see if you've posted. **Keep your cell phone in your pocket and keep your pups close! |
Yorkiemom has a great suggestion at keeping them crated and at hand just in case you need to leave quickly. They may be more comfortable in a small space as well, rather than running around the house. We have friends who live on Oahu going thru. this as well, so will pray for you guys too. |
Sending thoughts and prayers for you and your family!! Stay Safe! |
I had no idea how rare they are in Hawaii! I figured you got them every couple years. Sending my best. I have a nephew on the big island. I'll have to check on him. |
The pups are so funny. They can't figure out why I have the cushions from patio furniture stacked in the living room. Kayla is enjoying it and thinks it's her new bed, up on top. Tiki sees the pool floating lounge that she enjoys, now in the living room and looks at me like "are we going to float?". They all have their collars with ID on, so they assume we are going for a walk. I don't have crates, but have soft sided Sherpa carriers ready in the car, as they are required if we go to a shelter. I think we will be ok, but have to say it kinda scares the heck out of me hearing all the warning reports on tv. I know I'm as prepared as I can be, and will trust in God to make it all ok. We are fortunate to have plenty of warning, unlike so many who are hit by tornadoes. |
You and your pups are in my thoughts and prayers through this very scary time. I hope you and everyone you love remains safe and that your home sustains no damage. |
