Does anyone know what causes blooms on pepper plants to fall off? I have a few pepper plants that MIL gave me that already had peppers on them. They startd blooming again and as soon as the blooms fade and the peppers should be coming in, the stem just withers and falls off. That happened a lot of my lemon and lime too. So far only two lemons growing and one lime, and very slow growing too.

I don't know, when we have cooler summers here or excessively rainy, our blossoms on out veggies don't produce. If rain hits our fruit trees's blossom, we end up with a small crop. If cool or too cloudy for days on end, our zuchs don't do well. A fruit might develop on them but they shrivel and sorta mildew.

This year we've experienced the hottest and driest run of temperatures and precipitation ever for the Seattle area. Tomatoes and zuchs are going gangbusters. I left to fish for a few days, upon my return I discovered zuchs big enough to eat the neighbor's dog.

You're probably already doing it but when watering, water the ground and not the foliage. no sprinklers. water first thing in the morning or just before dark at night. every other day.

Just reread what you wrote.... if the plants already have peppers on them, the plant may be favoring the fruit over the blossom... putting what it has to the existing peppers to develop viable seeds instead of producing new fruit. That's fairly common with flowers and veggies. Maybe experiment with one of the pepper plants, pluck off all or most of the existing fruit, see if new blossoms develop new fruit????? Just a thought.

Yes, I took off all the peppers. They were ready to be harvested, but only four of them. A new bunch of flowers came out but they all fell off. There are yet another set of flowers coming in so we'll see what happens.

It has been not that hot here this summer and we've had our regular monsoon season rain, but not as much as last year. But last year I had hardly any harvest of barely anything (first year here last year). But yeah I heard it was crazy hot up in Seattle. My cousin lives there and she posted pics at a concert/music festival and was saying how the band was so tough to be in the sun all day. I laughed at her and asked, what was it 75 there today? She said almost 90! And that wasn't even the hottest day you guys got!

Found a few more small caterpillars on my pepper plants. I think I found five so far. Wondering if they came on the plant from MILs or they were hatched here.

What kinda peppers? I grew some Jalapenos.. The were hot as heck. The store ones not so much. But mine were. I grow peppers,bell peppers , Tomatoes and beans all kinds like weeds here

They are thai chili, jalapeno, and sweet banana.The Thai one had peppers.Melt your face off hot. But the Thai ones are always hot.

Oh and I know what you mean about jalapenos not being hot from the market.

Welp, the new blossoms that came in on the peppers also fell off. Grr.

Also the mint came back and there are nibbles on it again! I see little poops on the leaves too.

Hi gardners! My clematis is telling me fall is just around the corner. Since we talked about vines I thought I'd share my clematis in full bloom. It did have a little leaf wilt at the bottom but dr. google says it'll be just fine next year.

Green w/ envy over here, WOW, so pretty!!!! We don't see these lush clematis here in the desert.

So it's still been in the triple digits here. My pepper plant got a new slew of blooms. So far only one has turned into a pepper. It's about 1" long now. The others keep shriveling off.

Thai basil still going strong. Sweet basil is now fading. Mint came back great after the freaking caterpillar attack--again!

Is that side of the house afternoon facing? Bc we put a few plants on our balcony which is north facing, but gets a lot of the afternoon sun from the side and they are not doing well. Bf wants to switch them out for bougainvillea. We have two cat claws which are doing decent, a honeysuckle that's no longer flowering, and another which I can't remember the name but it's spiky and has purple flowers and it has never bloomed yet.

Yeah still low 100s and high 90s in our forecast. Can't wait until it's sweater weather. Then we will be complaining about the cold. LOL How cold does it get in Phoenix? Colder or warmer than us? Last year we got down to the low 30s for a high around New Years but that was the coldest it got. Normally it's like in the 40-50s for highs.

We've finally cooled off a bit after a sweltering summer. Lawn died, flowers stopped doing their thing all the figs shriveled up and dropped and we went AC at home big time. It seems as if spring has come again now, with the shorter days and cooler nights. Roses have revived and our citrus trees have put out little tangerines and oranges. Persimons ripening and the lawn is green again. This is my favorite season and in southern Europe it can be really pleasant for quite a few of months yet. Keep sending pictures and news. Gardening is my favorite pastime next to being with my yorkies.

I love bougainvillea for its ability to do so well in tough conditions, bc I need that here, to say the least lol. The plants are facing east, so the sun goes over them about mid-morning until early-to-mid-afternoon or so. They do get lots of sun, but do well.

In Phx, it's rare that we ever hit freezing, but nonetheless we usually do have just a couple/few nights of it during the winter. And I RELISH every delicious moment of it being "cold" here :D - I just love it when it's like that bc I can break out all my cool weather clothes that I crave wearing!

You should spraying neem oil or some essential oils may be that can help.

I'm finding it fascinating as most of you garden in such very different conditions to me. I have what you'd class as an English cottage garden which I've developed over the years from what was really just a field, overgrown with nettles, brambles etc, had help in the early days from my goats & geese. It's quite big, about an acre.

It always fascinates me how you refer to your outside space as a yard.
We really are two nations divided by a common language.
To us a yard is a small concrete or flagstoned enclosure, usually surrounded by a brick wall, at the back of a terraced house in a town or else attached to a farm ( farmyard) or a stables but always a cobbled, flagged or some other hard standing area. Never so much as grass let alone flowers, shrubs or trees. To us flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns surrounding a house or any other building make up a garden whether tiny or big. Do you call anything a garden or are they always yards?

Yes we have gardens lol, I have two garden beds at the end of my driveway, one long oval one in the middle of my front lawn, and about 30 foot long 1/2 moon shape at the front of my house. In my back yard that is a grassy area I have raised garden beds along the perimeter of my back property.

Talk about common language lol, I had a Canadian friend, in some USA states a woman's purse, handbag or pocketbook is called one of the three. I was born and raised in NY where we call them pocketbooks, a purse is what is used for formal affairs. So my Canadian friend emailed me that she bought her mother 86 pocketbooks, I replied OMG what is she going to do with them all, my friend said read them of course lol, lol .I still laugh every time I think of that lol.
