California Chrome There has not been a Triple Crown winner in 36 years and triple crown may just do it tomorrow. If he wins his breeding rights will top $30million. The story itself is such a great one. Two hours after he was born he was running around in circles, the co-owners were told they were crazy if they bought the horse but they did and have had the ride of their lives. The sport is filled with wealth but these to are blue collar workers or should I say were. California Chrome has never run a mile and a half before but this Jockey seems to know how to pace him and push his button when he needs to. Go Chrome |
I am looking forward to the race I hope we have a new Triple Crown winner. |
I'm excited with anticipation...I do hope California Chrome does well tomorrow. I'd love to see a Triple Crown winner... |
My favorite has always been Secretariat but I may have a new favorite today. Hope he can keep up on the longer track. Wonderful horse.:) I got up this morning so excited you would think it was my horse.:D |
I'm super excited about the race!!! It makes me think of sweet Barbaro :(. God, that story just killed me. That race broke my heart. |

Even though I wish he was Kentucky bred, I say Go California Chrome!!! |
I have not watched a race since Ruffian's match race.....that was the end for me.....I can not stand to see these gorgeous, beautiful, majistic animals, go down with broken legs, and still continuing to try to run their race on broken legs......I am NOT against horse racing....have a little history with race horses....but I just can not watch it! I am praying sooooooo hard that this race is uneventful, everyone finishes in excellent health, sound legs, and that Chrome is the new Triple Crown Winner! (Ruffian is buried at Belmont, near the flags, with her nose pointed toward the finish line,,,,I cry for her as I type this!) |
I'm a Chromie too as I love horses with a passion and hope we get to see a horse of today make it through to win the Triple Crown. I've heard that with the drugs they give them these days, such as Lasix, it's just too hard for a horse to rehabilitate from the bleeding in the lungs, nostrils and trachea, etc., many of them have after racing and the drugs to help their lungs recover from all the trauma and the dehydration, etc., from the drugs and still make it in top form through all three races but hopefully, Chrome will be that one that can. Still, it seems cruel to race a horse with the condition so hard it bleeds and can't breathe. |

Hope he wins.:) |
I am hoping he can do it. |
I was really pulling for California Chrome. Would've liked to see him win. We'll have to wait again for a Tripe Crown Winner. |
Looks like it was the mile and a half that did him in and yet Wicked Strong who seasoned horse people picked that because he did so well at Belmont Didn't win either. So many elements to horse racing that have to be exactly right. Hope it doesn't take that long again to find a contender. |
horse I am a California born and raised and was rooting for California Chrome. I totally agree with the owner, these other horses have had rest and did not race three races. Our Chrome is tired. He has run a lot and did not have the pep to go that distance. Needed a rest like the others. I hope they change the rule or if I had a horse I would not run mine that much and expect success. I am thankful nobody was hurt and I pray that the owners will realize just how blessed they are to own such a great horse and they will see the results when that horse has little foals and they are just as special. Beautiful horses will never be forgotten, he certainly will not. He gave it all he had and he is a winner in my eyes! |
Secretariat This is my favorite horse and maybe yours but even if not it is a great old video that was later audio improved. Enjoy!! This was the mile and a half run at the Belmont race track for the triple crown. |

Really sad that Chrome didn't win :(. Did anyone see the owner's interview afterward? He had some choice words for the other competitors who didn't race all 3 races (so that they had fresh horses). |

In no other sports competition are you allowed to just... put a new team in, while everyone else has been working hard and training and tired, etc, I just think that's BS. You should have to race ALL 3 races so the competition is fair. |

There have been complaints before this. We haven't seen the last of Chrome or his pedigree. |
ooops too late to edit to, to too in my last post. I hate when I do that. :( |
I agree there should be only a selected choice of horses to run in each of the races and that is it. Like any other tournament...ie. Wimbledon...you can't just add more players as it goes...poor analogy but you get my meaning. The thing is I am guessing it has always been like this for the Triple Crown and if owners, breeders etc. don't like it that way, then try to change the rules. This is why Secretariat and the others were so exceptional in my opinion. They took it with any and all that came to challenge them. I also saw something that Chrome had a cut front right hoof...maybe that had something to do with the way he couldn't run the way he would normally. |

I'm beginning to change my mind somewhat about the timing of their complaint after the race was over, yet again they would never have a larger audience to advance their cause. |

Some horse racing trivia... So, have any of you read about the X-Factor heart in horses? X-factor refers to a large heart gene only passed on through the x-chromosome. The larger the heart, the more oxygen a horse can pump through it's blood when it runs, making it capable of running faster. Sires cannot pass it on to their sons, only their daughters. Secretariet is known to have had the x-factor and had HUGE heart. He is one of only a few who actually had his heart weighed after he died. I can't remember but it seems it was something like twice the size of a normal heart. (Don't quote me). He was not a great "stallion" sire, but his daughters were highly sought. Here is some info if you horse racing fans would like to read. I love to study horse pedigrees and this is very interesting... Chasing the X-Factor, Unofficial Thoroughbred Hall of Fame |
Ok, I looked it up. Secretariet's heart was 22 lbs. Almost 3 times the normal size of a thoroughbred. Whoa! |

I was very sad california chrome did not get the triple crown!:( I agree with the owner.... it should be all three races or none at all, even the playing field. |
This is nothing new. The owner is new to racing and just thought he was going to win...sour grapes is all it was. He didn't think it was unfair going in or perhaps he should not have gone in. I am not a fan of horse racing any more...used to be but I hate what happens to so many of these beautiful animals. BUT...felt I should comment on this. The reason the Triple Crown is so elusive is because of the way it is structured. The Belmont has always been this way....if you had the same horses competing in all three races, sure maybe there would be more Triple Crown winners, but that would make it all the less impressive. It really takes some horse to pull off those three races. |

Was wicked Strong next to him at the start? That horse was a nervous wreck a little before start. I should have listened after the race was over but I was so disappointed, I called a couple people instead. They were no consolation.:D they were as bummed as I was. |

Thank you for the info. We knew he had to have heart to accomplish what he did but the weight is of his is the machine that got him where he wanted to go. |
I read today that California Chrome is a gelding, but I can't back that up. Does anyone know for sure? |
