What Candles Smell Great, Last Long, and Are Priced Reasonably? I'm always on the hunt for great candles bc I light one each morning as I have my espresso. I especially like to be able to smell the scent...they've got to have a yummy scent! Any good recommendations? I love earthy scents like vanilla, cinnamon, sandalwood, amber, ylang ylang, vetiver, nag champa, pumpkin spice... |
...And safe for pets. When you find ones you like, burn it a bit then sink a tea light in the center, it will still warm the candle and release the aroma, without burning it up! Replace the tealights as needed. |
I use a candle warmer from Yankee Candles. I still have a Red Berry and Cedar one from Christmas that I warmed up this morning and my DH asked what smelled so good. I quit burning candles when I forgot to put one out. Luckily nothing happened but scared me to deaath. |
I love candles too, and love the same yummy scents you mentioned, but additional favs are pear, honeydew, and a pineapple/mango, coffee & vanilla cream. It's kind of hit an miss as far as brands, with not many sources here. Mine usually come from Ross or Pier 1. Oh I also love the the Ocean scent (Pier 1) which is a great air freshener that smells like a fresh men's aftershave. So yeh, sweet food scent, and clean guy scent, those are good; not the strong perfumie kind. In a house with 4 "doggies", candles are a good thing to keep from smelling like a kennel, haha. |
Great safety tips, I'm going to look into candle warmers. I do use the battery op candles, but all have vanilla scent. I never thought of using tea lights to warm and give off scent. Amazing..... all the things I learn on Yorkie Talk. I love this place:D |

Yankee candles. I use the candle warmers, since I don't like fire of any kind. |
Have you heard of Diamond Candles or also Jewel Scent??? Diamond Candles - Home Fragrance Made Fun and Hassle Free Check out their FB page too.... I love burning candles, especially in the kitchen and around my soaker tub. I have yet to try Diamond Candles but one is on my wishlist this month for Valentines Day!!! |
I get my candles from Candles by Victoria online, especially if I'm getting Xmas gifts, I can place a big order at one time and save with shipping or use a deal. I like to give the more elaborate looking ones as gifts but I prefer the regular jar candles that won't over flow after the first use (I just put a little plate under the fancy ones with the little shapes and designs on top). Candles by Victoria - Food Candles They smell fabulous (good amount of scent throughout the entire life of the candle) and all of the ones I've gotten smell so good without even being lit. I'm on their mailing list...they send out coupon codes and alert you to sales they're having. The downside is that you can't smell the scents beforehand but I generally know what I like and have never been disappointed. They have soooo many different scents and you can make all kinds of combinations too. It's definitely worth checking out! I also get Yankee Candle ones at TJ Maxx or HomeGoods where they're much cheaper than full retail price but I prefer the CBV and think it's a better deal quality-wise for the price. |
Village candles are good, sometimes you can find them at ross or tj maxx. I like summer slices, its melony. The better homes and gardens candles at walmart are good and they're only like $5. I love the pumpkin pie one they have in the fall and I'm very picky about pumpkin scents. I don't buy yankee anymore, they're as good as they were and too expensive. |

At my work we sell pet odor remover candles by specialty pet products. It is a good sized candle with three wicks in a glass jar that retails for 8.95 half of the scents are fabulous and the other half nauseating but I have other customers swear that they love those ones to so to each their own I guess :) I love the Carmel latte, vanilla and strawberry scents- they do a great pumpkin and apple spice, they cover a lot of flower scents as well. I really like the nag champa and sandalwood scents myself, here in portland oregon there are a bunch of craft candle makers so I never really identified with a brand before. I would love to check out some of the ones I saw listed here- I keep seeing 'scentzy' reps driving around, has anyone used them? |
Great idea kjc:thumbup: I love the Yankee candle, they cost a little more but are large and last a very long time. Just love their Kitchen Spice. |
I used to use Yankee candles but I am now in love with WoodWick!! They last forever, in fact my big one from halloween 2012 just died and now I have cinnamon chi. They smell great and I love the wood crackle sound from the wood wick. Usually you can find them on clerance at Dillard's. And Marshall's, TJMaxx and Home Goods sometimes has them. |

I love Scentsy. I love that they don't have a fire and they have a good strong scent that fills the house. There are so many choices as well. And they look pretty! |
We use Scentsy - dint have to remember to blow out the flame :D |
We have a Yankee candle outlet not far from here and you can get coupons from the outlet. Last time I went there they had a large candle that, must not have been very popular, called 2x4. Well, I happen to love it. It smells like wooden pencils:). Oh, and this large candle was only $2.00. I wish I had purchased a dozen. |
Candles By Victoria have an amazing scent throw...and she is so sweet to work with. I load up on Bath and Body Works candles every time they have a 2 for $22 sale and I have an enormous collection of this brand...I repurpose the candle jars after I've used them up by sticking them in the freezer for a few days, then the wax pops right out and you can use the bottom bits with a wax warmer, plus the jars wipe clean easily with a cotton ball and they're all over my house...makeup brush holders, pens and pencils, I've even drank wine out of them LOL. Better Homes and Gardens brand has a TON of scent options for their wax cubes sold at walmart and its way cheaper than scentsy. Last but not least, they aren't cheap at all, but I've received some amazing luxury Jo Malone candles that are just the best. |
Oooo, sooooo many good recommendations! Yummy. I have lots I need to try. Has anyone ever smelled Gold Canyon's Warm Welcome? HEAVEN. |
I have 4 Scenty warmers in my house. My favorite scents are Cinnamon Bear, Cucumber Melon & Citrus. The scents last around 3 days if used from morning to evening. The Baby Power scent for the Bathroom is really pleasant, too! |

I'm a huge partylite candle girl. I like how they burn, smell and don't turn black. They are not cheap tho.... but they do have sales you can get them for cheaper. Or have a party and then you can get them even cheaper. I found one in a box that I've had for over 10 years and never opened it. I opened the box the other day and the candle still smells brand new! Its wrapped in tissue paper and the paper is still white, so I know the scent oils stayed IN the candle! Unlike Yankee which leaked red oil from a candle all over the box it was in and made a mess and now the candle scent is very faint! |
I just LOVE Candles By Victoria (someone already posted the link). I used to use Yankee Candle, but after using Candles by Victoria, I won't go back to Yankee! The smell stays a lot longer, and they burn better too, plus there are so many scents it is almost overwhelming.  |

Love those too, Both my hubby and I suffer from horrible sinus issues so we can not handle wild mixed scents of any kind. So I tent to stick to food scents, they are less harmful to our sensitive noses... :D Quote:
I use candle warmer to but a not the typical ones you buy at those fancy shops, I use a coffee cup warmer. It cost under 6 bucks and it works great plus has a handy on/off switch. Does anyone have any experience with the Serenity candles/scents ? |
I'm a candle nut. I've tried them ALL. For me, the best candles are Rigaud. Once you try a Rigaud, you'll never buy anything else. http://www.rigaud-paris.com/ |
