When Is the Last Time You Fell?... Just Curious
 

So, I was walking into work this morning and slid and fell in the middle of the street. I scurried to get up because it went through my brain that I could get hit. Ahhh! Anyway, just sore and slightly embarrassed because there was a bus that pulled up at the light. Can I just add that I did not realize that the street was pure ice until I hit the ground? :eek: Just love this 9 degree weather and ice!

Anyway, that got me to thinking that some of you might have stories too. When is the last time you fell? Any interesting stories out there in YT land? Thanks. You know misery loves company...

Ouch! I'm glad you were not injured, Lisa. My mother broke her wrist that way, so I am paranoid.

One of my worst falls was walking out the front door to take puppy Max for a walk. We have 3 brick steps with no railing. I was like you and didn't see the ice. My feet went out from underneath me and I landed on my back, hitting my head on the brick. I dropped Max's leash, but thankfully he didn't run off because he was worried about me.

Hope you aren't more sore later or have any bruises. Enough of winter!

Ohhh.....so glad only your pride was hurt and nothing else. As far as your question....I don't remember the last time I fell! I have tripped but never really fallen. Maybe I am part cat! LOL

A;; you ladies and gents with ice coated walks, driveways, etc, BE CAREFUL!!!! Broken hips, arms and head injuries are of course horrible this time of year....
Personally, my last trip into my commercial style mop pail with ringer, where I broke ribs, was my last major fall.....I have really changed some things I do around here simply because I have deteriorated to all the gracefullness of a hog on ice.

My story... I had on heels and was at schools (I'm a teacher) and was walking my 6th grade class to the media center. I had the students in a row and was walking backwards at the front to check on their progress. Yes... you guessed it... on my butt!!!!

Another time I was running into the house, that house had a front pourch that was converted to a room, we used it as a living room. the pasage between the front room to the main part of the house still had a sliding door-- my dear husband had closed the door--pulling the glass sliding door in place. I hit it full force - running from the front door across the room into the slider.... almost knocked me out. I broke my nose...blood every where. I started screaming I need a towel, my dh brough me a tissue. I had bathtowel amounts of blood and he brought ONE tissue... sigh I told the neighbors he hit me, he got really mad at me. lol

Eeek!

My mother ran through a glass sliding door in our house. She was on the phone and saw my brother doing something dangerous in a tree outside. The glass broke and she was covered in cuts, thankfully none life threatening.

The last time I remember falling was 2 years ago. I was feeling pretty cute that day in my dress and heels. I came home for lunch, and somehow fell from the top of the stairs that leads to my old apt. I just went head first down 6 steps. The first thing I did was cover myself because as you can imagine, my dress flipped over during the fall. The saddest part was my parents were inside having lunch, heard the commotion, and didn't even bother to check what had happened. I went in bruised knees, wrists, and forearms and bleeding shins. That didn't hurt as much as my parents completely ignoring me as a stood by them once I got inside. I changed into pants and went back to work.

Oh it hurts just thinking about all the falls and injuries you all have had. Hopefully everyone is OK, Please be careful !

The last time I fell was two years ago, well it wasn't really a fall but more like me getting tossed from the motorcycle when the clutch got stuck. My DH and I were getting ready to leave a parking lot when he put it in natural and rolled backwards and just as he put it in first gear and lets the clutch go I go flying off the back of the bike. I was pissed, embarrassed and hurting all at the same time. The pain wasn't that bad until the following day. I had road burns on my hands, knees and on one of my legs. It took me a good long time to have full use of my leg again. Thank goodness it was nothing serious enough to have to go to the emergency room.

We had just gotten the bike out of the shop from having it fixed. Nice Job huh, lets just say we wont be taking it to them again!! I got right back on it and we rode home !

Oh, that sounds just awful! Glad Max was such a good boy and stayed with you.

Those sounds awful Shinja! How awful about your nose, but too funny you said your DH did it. You are wicked...

Oh Vicki, hope you are okay. I think it is hurting worse now than when it happened for me. Are you feeling the same way?

Ouchies! That sounds horrible and can't believe your folks didn't realize there was a crisis going on.

Oh, there is nothing worse than the pain of road burns. Sounds terrible, but glad it was not an ER visit.

So glad you weren't injured in your fall, but just a warning...you may feel it tomorrow. That's how it usually goes!

My last fall was just after Christmas when I was working. Went out to get the mail and it is downhill from the building. I'd fallen once before there, so was being extra careful and it was a snowy, windy day. Sure enough...hit some ice and down I went. I was sore on my left side...hip and arm mostly, but after a few days, that went away. Now I don't go out to the mailbox without my snowgrips on my shoes or my snow boots. How I hate winter and ice!

What a question lol - my last fall was a bad one - really bad...it took me about a year to be fully functional again. But all is GOOD now! No more screeching headaches - just can't be out in the sun without some super SHADES

I fell off a chair a few months ago, trying to hang a quilt so I could take pictures of it.

No ice involved, just me and a chair. I hurt in places I did not know existed! And I cracked a scapula. It still hurts.

I fell about a month ago going out my back door We have a couple of steps and they were slippery from ice. I feel backwards and hit the back of my head on the step. It hurt but now I make sure I shovel those steps so it doesnt turn to ice

All these falls make me hurt.

My last fall was going out to get the paper in the dark in my robe and wearing my husband's shoes. I thought the paperboy had left the neighborhood and just when I bent down to get the paper, his car came around the corner. I didn't want him to see me in my robe and turned to run back into the garage. My body turned...... but my husband's shoes didn't.......I fell face first on the driveway. The paperboy didn't see me because he turned and went up the next block. I ended up with a messed up finger and sore arm and a lesson learned, don't wear size 12 shoes and try to run.

So sorry this was your parents reaction. It's painful enough, without anyone caring. You deserve better. So glad you weren't hurt worse, it could of been so bad.

I had similar (adoptive) parents, so do understand the pain. They'd of pretended they saw nothing, even if they'd been right there, or taunted me.

I fell over last week, outside the vets. Went flying backwards, holding Caleb in a basket. Caleb was having a check up and the pup was having her first injections. Poor Caleb was shaken up, but unhurt, he seemed shaken till the next day.
I hurt for days, hips, right let, right arm and back. Still sore but fine.

Pup Pippi was in the her carrier still, in the car. Hubby had been getting the carrier out, letting me know poor pup had pooped everywhere. Stood beside the car in pain and shaking, cleaning up pup and blankets :( She hated being in the carrier in the car. She likes the carrier when it's at home.

I fell two weeks ago. My 6 month old Biewer Finley raced out the door. He was having so much fun running around as fast as he could. I somehow stumbled in the driveway while trying to grab him and fell. Skinned knee, arm, and bruised hip. Had just had a pedicure, and somehow the fall chipped the polish off my toes which made me more upset than my injuries.

Wow lots of scary falls. I fall a lot, our floors and stairs are wood and slippery and I am often in socks. One of my last big falls was going down the stairs in the dark carrying a dirty dinner plate, I fell halfway down and bruised my back and butt bad, I tried to be quite, because my husband was sleeping but started sobbing, I think more from the shock of the fall, so it woke my husband up.

I also slip in the garage A LOT and it pisses me off, my husband did that speckled urethane coating on the floor, I told him to add more sand to keep it from being so slippery when it gets wet but he did not do it everywhere, or put enough on:( especially in the center), I am in and out the garage since I garden and even though I am very conscious of that and walk with baby steps I still have real close calls, which hurt because I wrench myself into a weird position to keep myself upright. Each time this happens it starts the fight over again about my husband not listing to :Dme

My worst was on my front porch I was barefoot before company was coming and was cleaning the window, I jumped up to get a cobweb and came down and rolled over the side of my right foot. I fell down into the garden smack into the middle of an arbovitie. I wound up breaking my foot and it took 6 full months to heal. After 3 months of no healing I had to spend 3 months wearing an electronic bone stimulator to promote bone growth.

I will be going skiing to Park City the first week in March, I will keep my fingers crossed that I will not be adding a story to this thread:D

It only hurt as much as it did because that's not normally how they are. I forgot what it was they were so busy discussing they didn't hear the commotion outside.

Just a couple weeks ago, after driving about 100 miles to go ice fishing, I stepped out of my van, slipped on the water covered ice and bam, smashed my back in to the step of the van. After a few minutes of evaluating the damage to my back, I drove the 100 miles back home with out punching a hole in the ice to try my luck at some perch and trout. My back was fine in a day or so, my ego took a little longer. LOL

My last BIG fall was March last year. I wasn't quite awake and fell down the stairs. Well, perhaps rolled down the stairs is a better description. LOL Considering the distance I rolled down, I was actually surprised I wasn't badly hurt. Needless to say, I was FULLY awake after. I did limp around for the next couple days though. hahaha

The last small incident was two days ago when I almost stepped on Zoey. *sigh* She does this ninja thing and sometimes sits/stand really close to my foot when I'm doing something so I don't notice her. Anyway, I able to not step on her but lost my balance and hit my head on the wall.

Oh the things we do for our furballs~!~!~!

I took a "red neck" fall when I was moving an old antique shipping trunk for my Mom. She wanted it moved out of her shed and it didn't have any handles to pull it with and no rope to make any. She didn't want to wait for the guys to get there to help so I had a "gen-u-wine brain fart"........Duct Tape. Yep, I fashioned a pull handle for the shipping trunk out of Duct Tape. (A very, very lame idea, but at the time it seemed brilliant......brilliantly stupid)

I now had my new Duct Tape handle attached to the HEAVY trunk and started pulling slowly across the back yard. It is a slow process bc this darn trunk is uber heavy, but I am rather smug at this point bc it is working......then halfway across the yard the Duct Tape, America's do all/fix all, BREAKS and I go backward catching myself with my right hand. At that time I hear this sickening crunch and I look down and see my right palm is no longer facing downward, but is now sitting at a wierd angle and already starting to swell.

My Mom looks down at me and tells me to get up and quit joking and then goes inside. When she comes back outside and I am still on the ground she realizes it is not a joke. Mom and I are off to the ER. DX: broken Right arm three places due to stupid idea.

P.S. Don't trust Duct Tape...LoL

I've had 2 fairly bad falls recently. I lose my balance a lot, but I'm really good at catching myself before I actually fall.

My room is in the attic and the steps leading to it are really bad, very narrow, steep, and slippery. I'm frequently asked how I haven't killed myself on them yet. I always lean my weight towards the steps, so if I lose my footing/balance I'll fall on them rather than down. Falling up the steps is a regular occurrence.
In May I was coming down the steps and slid down a few on one foot, luckily I caught myself on the railing. I scraped my foot, hurt my arm, and totally jarred my body.

Lola is not allowed to climb the steps, I'm sure she could but I'm afraid. My poodle was twice as big as she is and she fell down the steps a few times (never got hurt).


Then a few months ago I was trying to step over a baby gate, it blocks my room from the step area, with Lola in my arm. I didn't get my leg up high enough and I fell into the gate. I caught myself on a shelving unit thing, so I didn't fall all the way down. It hurt so bad, I had to hobble back to my bed and lay there for a few minutes. I bruised the entire front of my calf, it took about 2 months for it to stop being tender and the blue tinge to go away.
Lola was fine, just startled. She took care of me while I was laying down.

Last time I took a significant fall (bc I fall all the time without injuries) while wearing shorts, I tripped over a sprinkler head outside my house that didn't retract when it should have. My hand were full and my shoe caught the edge. I have a big battle scar that I tell people I got from crashing while mashing on my bike. LOL so not true.

Snowgrips sound perfect for that kind of weather. Glad you turned out okay in a few days.

For me, my husband told me I should take a cane today. What a comedian.

Ouch Michele! The top of a chair is a long way down to the ground. :eek: I do have to laugh (misery loves company) about hurting in places you did not know existed. Relating this morning.

You sound like a great pet parent while your little guy was having a ball. All that money for a pedicure and then it chipped. I am sure you were not a happy camper.

I do relate to steps with no carpet. When we had our floors done, we had our steps sanded too. What a mistake. Piccolo kept falling, so we ended up only doing wall-to-wall on the steps. What you do for your little ones!

200 miles for a stupid fall! aggravating I am sure. Glad you were okay, though.

I am glad you did not get hurt. . . My DBF fell and broke his ankle this year.

Oh I hope you are alright, my story is much like yours. I only fell once and it was about five years ago in a parking lot with ice, two men came to help me up and they fell. It would have been a good video if anyone would have had a camera. :) I was fine.
