Devastating

RIP Paul Walker. I still can't believe he was killed in a car accident today. We lost an amazing actor :(

capt_noonie 11-30-2013 11:36 PM

I couldn't believe it, and the irony. I read so many that it was a hoax, but sadly it was not. RIP Paul.

GuinnessStout 12-01-2013 12:06 AM

I wonder if they already filmed Fast 7 and if not how are they going to finish the series.

Shelby&Seymour 12-01-2013 03:31 AM

I just read it too..... RIP Paul Walker

normarae63 12-01-2013 05:42 AM

How awful. I always thought he was a great actor and it makes me sad that the need for a thrill snuffed out someone with so much to give. I feel just awful for his daughter, Meadow.

RIP Paul...

rubymoon2072 12-01-2013 07:54 AM

may he rip I was so praying it was a hoax.

They were on a break from production. They were not done filming yet. I guess the writers will have to do some rewriting, as the did for Dark Knight when Heath Ledger passed away. I bet lots of people will come out in support of him for Fast 7 and will have a huge opening, like DK did.

I read he was attending a car show hosted by his friend, who was driving and he was the owner of the race car shop that put on the shows every month. They did them for charity, and this time was for the tornado and typhoon victims. At least he died doing what he loved with one of his best friends.

Did you guys see the pics of the car? I was totally speechless. I wonder what happened, for a pro driver in a high performance car to lose control like that.

Britster 12-01-2013 01:45 PM

Ugh so depressing! I honestly could not believe it when it first surfaced. I definitely thought it was a hoax. RIP.

Deb1 12-01-2013 05:22 PM

Hearing this makes me so sad! I have thought about him through out the day. It is such a loss to all.....make he rest in peace!

yorkiefan_ 12-01-2013 08:05 PM

Maybe I'm cold for saying this, but a guy smashing his car into a light pole and killing he and his passenger while speeding? It's known to happen. I don't have any sympathy for someone who dies doing something stupid like that on a city street where he could have lost control and plowed into a mother walking with her kids on the sidewalk or an innocent driver doing the posted speed limit. Lucky for the innocent witness on the road who said he was 30 seconds away from those jerks crashing into and killing him too. No amount of charity work could make up for killing another person.

capt_noonie 12-01-2013 11:21 PM

Wow......
So you're telling me you've never driven a high performance car before and went over the speed limit for a few seconds for kicks? You never know what can happen. Even in a safe car like a Volvo, or a fast car like a Porsche.

capt_noonie 12-01-2013 11:24 PM

It's not like he murdered someone and the tried to make it up by doing charity work. He died while doing charity work, and it was an accident.

Wylie's Mom 12-02-2013 06:14 AM

WHAT? Omg, just seeing this now. How terribly sad :(. I really liked him as an actor.

yorkiefan_ 12-02-2013 06:31 AM

It's the same way I feel about drunk drivers. It would have been a tragedy if those two had killed someone innocent, but luckily only they had to suffer the immediate consequences of their decisions and no one else.

I don't think they crashed due to the high speed. Apparently, there was a fluid leak and they think it was a steering fluid leak, so it's assumed that the ability to steer just completely went away, causing them to crash into the tree. I'm sure a higher speed, if they were in one, could contribute to the extent of the crash - but it appears that the impact would've caused an instant explosion of the car either way.

I'm not capable of judging the situation as 'stupid' or not bc I didn't see it nor do I know all the contributing factors, but I do know it's tragic to lose a family member, no matter how they go. For all we know, maybe they were going 30mph. Regardless though, a loss is tragic for those close to them.

Kaitlynx89 12-02-2013 02:42 PM

It is all so very sad. It sounds like it was a steering wheel fluid leak so that was definitely a factor :( Those poor children that lost there fathers...

capt_noonie 12-02-2013 02:45 PM

If it's true it was steering fluid leak, then Porsche better recall those cars. I see big time law suit.

yorkiefan_ 12-02-2013 03:54 PM

Looks like I was wrong; according to NBC they were only going 40-45 MPH. The LA Times article said the police were looking at it as a case of speeding, but apparently that's not the case. I shouldn't have jumped to that conclusion from initial reports and from seeing the car look completely trashed: it's a horrible thing to hit a rigid object like that pole and a car has no choice but to wrap around it when it can't immediately knock the thing out of the ground. RIP and apologies to any fans of Walker I may have offended.

Could have been a problem with this one particular car. I think any car has the potential to develop a steering fluid leak. This was a 2005, wasn't it? Still could be a defect of this particular car.

The video of the actual crash doesn't look like they were traveling at a ridiculous rate of speed. Maybe braking hard by the time the car enters the frame.

DBlain 12-03-2013 05:15 PM

I never saw the movies and had not heard his name until the accident but I must say he was one heck of a good looking guy and from I have read very charitable. A couple of things that I read that no one mentioned here is the area they were in was known for street racing, but it was sort of an industrial park with little traffic and even less so on a weekend. Also the reason the car looks so mangled and the bodies not easy to recognize is during the crash they hit a gas line and the car was almost instantly in gulfed in flames. who knows what the outcome might have been had they not hit the gas line, probably not good but maybe not so bad as well.

I think people are assuming that the pipe coming out of the ground at the site of the crash is a gas line. The pipe is still intact, and I doubt a gas line would be exposed like that. Also, no evidence of any crews on sight to fix any gas leak. I have seen a ruptured gas line in Chicago. It created a fireball 6 stories high next to a hospital.

I think Paul Walker and his friend were likely killed on impact, hitting the light pole that fell to the ground.

I looked at Google maps of the area where the car shop and this crash occurred. Reminds me very much of the 1 mile loop of my neighborhood. I can't believe the speed limit is 45 mph on the straightaways and then drops to 15 at the curves. That is crazy!

However, it looks like they were traveling on the straight part when they crashed. Even if all of the steering fluid fell out, that wouldn't mean the car would be impossible to steer. It would just be harder. Such a perplexing and tragic accident.

DBlain 12-03-2013 06:54 PM

I guess I should know better than to listen to my husband:D, but it does sound confusing on what happened since a fire broke out before anyone could get to them, very sad that is for sure.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing that the way the car was so mangled on impact that the gas tank sprung a leak and then blew up.

capt_noonie 12-03-2013 07:55 PM

I'm no expert either. I just know those cars have the engine in the back. No idea where the fast dank is though. Prob mid near the bottom? Some times those types of cars even have the gas tank behind the cockpit.

This website says that is where the tank is on the car they were driving:

Ok apologies about typing on the ipad. Gas tank, not fast dank.

So I was right, it was behind the cockpit.

LOL I was wondering what fast dank was, but you guys know cars better than I do so I was not questioning it:) until reading this thread I did not realize how many theories and misinformation there was, but I guess that is understandable considering how badly damaged the car was.

I keep thinking about that handsome guy and what a shame it was to loose his life this way.:(

LOL, I googled Fast Dank last night because I thought it was car part I had never heard of. Priscilla knows cars, so I thought it was something cool. :p
