LOL not a fan of Halloween LOL I feel like scrooge when it comes to Halloween, it's not like I don't like the holiday, it's more about how much I dread costumes and how much people expect you to put into it. I like being creative, I like sewing, I like decorating, but I am not fond of doing it for Halloween, if others want to that is great, but if you don't get a cool costume, I feel you get left out. My friend down the street has been having a kick ass party for the last three years that I would not want to miss, but everyone goes in a cool costume which I hate finding, plus I have to find one for my dh as well. This year she is on a trip out of the country, and when I found out there would be no party I was elated, only because of the dreaded costume search. I have a lot of NYC doggie friends and I have seen on facebook most of them have been to three or four parties over the last week, all in elaborate costumes for both the owners and their pups. Strollers have been decorated, the pups are wearing wigs and costumes weighing more then they do, the owners are dressed to match their pups, to me it's so overwhelming and I bet not that much fun for the pups. Anyway just wondering if anyone else felt like me and dreaded the whole costume pressure thing |
I am just the opposite. I usually (not in the last 2 years) go all out for Halloween-graveyards, fog machines, strobe lights, 6 foot tall Jason voorhees.....I love decorating, and the best part to me is the line of kids down the sidewalk waiting for their turn to get scared, because they know we will have someone, somewhere chasing them with a chainsaw. Now thanksgiving and Christmas.....I could do without. Once Halloween is over, I just want to skip to New Years. |

ARG! I guess I am just a stick in the mud on halloween! I go ALL out for Christmas though! Love those decorations! |
LOL, I totally get it. I am not a fan of dressing up or Halloween parties myself, but I do enjoy seeing the creativity behind the costumes since I am a creative person myself and love seeing the photos from everyone's parties because they're usually crazy. So from that aspect, I do get a kick out of the whole scary holiday. And who doesn't love half priced candy the day after????:p:) |
Well I'm the worst bah-humbug of all time bc I dread all holidays, generally. I mean, I don't dread like Labor Day or whatnot, but it's more like I dread the holidays that are BIG DEALS, those are the ones I dread. |
I agree - dislike Halloween, mostly because of the costume thing. Until 2 years ago dh and I would go to a huge party with friends, and it was so hard finding costumes. Mostly for me, becuase every "adult" female costume is some slutty'd-up (is that even word? :)) version of a character. I don't have an awful body, but I don't prefer mini skirts and halter tops in October thank you. Ewww. |

Halloween used to be my fave holiday. We would get a huge pumpkin and carve it - my husband is very creative. For several years in a row my pumpkins were stolen or knocked over and broken. Finally, I just quit decorating for Halloween. I dread thanksgiving and especially Christmas. I just wish I could go to sleep and wake up on January 2. |
Golly I love holidays but don't personally get into the competitions for best or better but just enjoy the planning and decorating to the point I can manage. But I HAVE TO decorate or it's just not the holidays and besides, it's fun. I am not OT about non-work type competitive things(save that crazy energy for work) so I'm not very tempted to get all into all of that off the clock. But I really enjoy seeing all of the work product of those that do. It really adds to the enjoyment of the season to see those that work their butts off making amazing displays or costumes and give parties that drop the jaw. |
I feel the same way you do. I also dislike Christmas as well. |
Can't stand Halloween. And it is really annoying that you have to keep your porch light off or risk attracting random people begging for sugar. I don't celebrate Christmas or Easter either, but we do usualy have a nice meal. Love Thanksgiving b/c we are really good at eating over here. lol. So irritating that the Christmas hoopla starts three months early. I mean, is this holiday the thing that gets people through the year? I dunno. |
I looovee Halloween and Christmas. Thanksgiving I could just skip right over. lol. I haven't gone all out for either one in a while though. But I do enjoy the 'time of the year'. I love watching all my favorite kiddie movies that I loved as a child. I've seen Halloweentown like 5x already this month. :p and all of the Disney Channel movies (of course, I have young siblings that are *REALLY* the ones watching these ;);)) but I do the 'scary' ones like Halloween and Friday the 13th too. I like Christmas time a lot more though, I listen to Christmas music starting in November, and I just love the 'feeling' of the time of year. I can't explain it. I guess it just brings me back to childhood and the happiness that these holidays brought back then. Of course they're not the same as an adult, but I do try to make the best. |
Halloween is my favorite time of year. Not so much for the dogs, I never dress them up and the kids are too old now but for me its a different story. IF I can dress up and scare the heck out of the kids/trick or treaters, I will. I was always that house of the block with the best décor and the best scare. I don't dress up to pass candy out any more but when I did it was so much fun. I Love when I get to dress up and I go out with friends. Love coming up with costumes ideas. Boy oh boy have there have been some doozies !! Its my one day out of the year when I just get to have fun, sock everyone (and I do) and just be silly. |
I have mixed opinions about all the "big deal" holidays. On one hand, I am just happy to be here and feel blessed. On the other hand, I hate having to pretend to have a good time because it is New Year's Eve or whatever. Halloween around here can be fun just because I like getting the girls into a costume and listening to my neighbors tease about this. However, Christmas can be so expensive and way too much trouble. I do feel like I have lost the meaning of Christmas with all the gifts, expense, food, etc. Sad. I wish we would give donations to our favorite charities, instead of material things. Anyway, relating to your post, Donna. |
