Anyone watching 'The Paradise' on PBS Masterpiece? This new series sooo reminds me of 'Mr. Selfridges' which I just love! It has been suggested that this series was created to hold us over until the new season of DA. I love these period pieces...the clothing, the social classes, etc. I probably was a scullery maid in a past life! LOL!! :D |

Oh, and my dad was a lawyer before he retired - when he did his family tree - he discovered that his great great grandmother WAS a scullery maid.....:D (that's probably who I get my cleaning fetish from.... :D) Sally x |
I would love to watch it - when it is on? |
Oh ya... I'm hooked! Watched it 3 times yesterday, lol! |
I don't think "The Paradise" is starting here until this or next week. I've got the series set to record. I hope it's better than Selfridge - just couldn't stick with that one. That actor playing Selfridge was too OT and it was boring to me for some reason. I watched "Father Brown" the other night and so enjoyed the English-ness of it, though it had no suspense or anything. Was slow-paced and reminded me of the Christie Marple novels with all those little village touches and characters. Fun show and Brown really grows on you. |

I will check out Father Brown. Thanks so much for the suggestion! Katheleen |

Hubby and I love all the British shows....DA, Wentworth, Frankie, Graham Norton, etc. I have a friend who lives in Derby...she breeds Ragdolls and we always talk about the shows when we Skype...I just love her accent!! :D |

I had a hard time getting into Father Brown. But then I'm not a fan of mysteries at all...I could tolerate the handful of Marple that Geraldine McEwan was in, as she's one of my all time favourite actresses. I absolutely loved her in Mulberry! |

Looks like I somehow missed the Series Premier as all I have scheduled is a Rerun of it 10/13, called "The Paradise" and it first ran 10/6! Thought I had it scheduled to record this past Sunday but it's not on my list of recorded shows! Anyway, got the replay scheduled and the rest of the series on my Record schedule now individually. Oh, wait, just saw it did record but it's listed under Masterpiece Classic. I have everything called "Masterpiece" on Autorecord so I get it all, just didn't know Paradise was under that. Going to watch it once the second one has recorded. If it's good, it's more fun to just go on and watch two in a row. Oh, I hope it's good. |

Do you like the 'old' Inspector Morse series - do you know/love Oxford? All those dreaming spires....and all those murders!!! :D Sally x |

Heads up, y'all- you can watch Paradise on PBS.org! I DO enjoy the show, even if it is so similar to Mr Selfridge, but I enjoy that show, as well! |
Trying to make it through first episode but, wow, slow moving. It is a pretty show just to watch but the premise of the draper's kiss causing all this shock & bother - a bit hard to swallow. IDK if I can care about these characters. Those upper class types are pretty hard on the poor, groveling working class. Hope it gets better and not so frivolous. |

Come on, you gotta at least admit, Moray is way more shaggable than Selfridge. I was shocked that Selfridge found anyone to step out on his wife with! |
Well, I got a little more into it after the lady did the right thing by the poor, working stiff. I guess it was a biggie back then but geez Louise, it seemed more about what he did than who he was. I'll bet if the Prince or a Duke's son had kissed her(well, actually she did the kissing and got caught), there wouldn't have been worries about her reputation, just a lot of blushing and "ahem"s and the daddy of her friend would likely have turned on his heel & discreetly removed himself from the room with nary a word of protesting shock. Man oh man, I do love the Moray character's double dimples, I've got to say. He's short - under 6 feet it looks like but he is a sweetiepie with those brown eyes, sexy smile and dimples. WAY more easy to look at than that Piven guy in the other series. Oh yes. Nice. And I did relax my offended self once the draper got to come back to work. I'm watching at least one more episode to see where this series is headed. |

It's set in 1965, and explains how Endeavour (Morse) became the man he was....it wasn't played by John Thaw (who I think was wonderful!) but it's excellent as a prequel. Also wonder if you've watched the spin-off series 'Lewis'....again, not as good - but certainly watchable (once you get to understand the language!!! :D) Sally x |

I actually really, really like Hathaway (probably unhealthily so  he's not my type at all....:D) another member of that wonderful Fox family. So, Jeanie, are you able to watch Sherlock/Whitechapel/Luther etc.? x |

I adore Idris - just think he's great though I haven't seen him in that many things actually. He's really a good actor though and - not hard to look at - it's those eyes. Is he a detective in Luther? I watched some British series on BBCAmerica called The Hour or something like that that wasn't that great and hasn't been back. Wasn't a mystery or anything and you couldn't really warm to any of the characters but seems like there was a ?spying? ?cold war? connection there at the end that I was interested in but maybe I'm mixing it up with another series. I did want to follow that part of the story but haven't seen the show advertised again. Sally, do you all get a show called Scandal all about DC politics? It's very popular and hot right now here in the USA. Every time it runs Twitter trends Scandal and the Tweets just pile up. It's been trending here off and on for the last two hours and the show doesn't even come on until 9:00 pm CST. |
I watched the 1st episode of The Paradise online - loveloveLOVED it so much! Yay! There are not many shows on TV I like, so I love it when I find something I can enjoy. How about the costumes? The level of detail is amazing; I just love this particular era when extra details were abundant. |

Whitechapel - the first series was excellent (I think!), kind of gory but brilliant storylines - so unique and clever. The last series (which we've just finished this week) I don't think was so good - a bit weird and unbelievable. Luther - yes, he's a Detective Chief Inspector....and a very good, very handsome one at that!!! :D Andy's VERY favourite programme. Apparently they're going to make a movie of it next year, thankfully starring Idris...once again, it's going to concentrate on the back-story. I didn't personally like The Hour - think I watched just the one episode, and fell asleep during that! :) We've had a very good series lately called 'Broadchurch', loved it - and I think you might too. Very evocative of 'a British sea-side town' with a few sinister bits thrown in....:D I'm sure we don't have Scandal, but I'll double check....it might be on an obscure channel that I haven't found, out of all the hundreds we have - is it good? :) x |
Oh, Sally, I've got to watch for Broadchurch - sounds right down my alley. The Cumberbatch "Sherlock" - just the first name - is absolutely brilliant and mostly very well-written - very very fast-paced, funny, dry, clever as the Devil dialogue but still Doyle-like in many ways. A bit on the dark side but still a great ride and thoroughly enjoyable and Cumberbatch is PERFECT as a younger, slightly sociopathic Sherlock. Still, he uses his sociopathy for good but he knows how criminals think as he's so very like one. His Watson is totally interesting, too, still Sherlock's daily muse. Brian Cumberbatch is currently in The Fifth Estate with blonde eyebrows and hair as Assange. Scandal IS a scandal to watch. Very popular with Americans right now. Very politically oriented to the Beltway and oh so naughty to the point of a little tiring but it moves along so fast and furious you've not much time to grow restive. |
