I think it depends on the person and how they were brought up. I can tell you if my Grandmother was still alive she would be applaud if a lady was in a 2 piece bathing suit and she was pregnant! Come to think of it if she was alive in this day she would be applaud on so many things LOL. It isn't wrong or right if you think it is out of line. |

I'm interested in all these responses! I am pregnant now (shhhhh... still a secret for another week!) and will be going to Mexico for my brother's wedding in November. I haven't worn anything but a bikini to a beach since I was about 15!!! I'll be about 5 months along in November and have no idea how big or small I'll be at that point, but I'm toying with the idea of just wearing a bikini there too. That way, I won't have to buy a special maternity bathing suit, which I may not get another chance to wear (I'll be having this baby in March when the snow is still flying, and who knows about future babies!) I guess I'll just have to decide how comfortable I am at that point. My mom didn't get stretch marks in her pregnancies, and I didn't get stretch marks with growth spurts, so I have all my fingers and toes crossed that I've got my mom's good genes and I will feel more comfortable showing off my baby belly! |

Congrats Lindsey!!! So exciting!!! You definitely should wear a bikini:) |
Why is it wrong for a pregnant woman to wear a bikini? I don't get it... If you feel confident while pregnant, why not wear a bikini? There are tons of beautiful pregnant women, and I don't see any reason why it would be considered odd for them to wear a bikini like other women. I guess I'm a bit of a feminist and think that women are beautiful and shouldn't hide their bodies if they feel confident enough to rock it. |
Oh, and congratulations Lindsey!! :D You should rock it! Confidence is sexy. |

Haha thanks everyone!!! I didn't mean to hijack this thread!! :o Regarding maternity suits, I think (but don't know for sure!) that they are just way more stretchy or have more material so you can fill them out as you get bigger. They pretty much just come in S,M,L,XL or whatever like regular clothes! I haven't ventured into maternity wear yet but you are supposed to just buy your regular non-pregnant size, and they are supposed to fit you as you keep growing. Oh and I've only seen the bathing suits that are tankinis that make it look like a one-piece because the top comes down over the bottoms. |

Maternity Swimsuits | Motherhood Maternity But if you are confident enough in your skin while pregnant, I say wear a bikini if you want! We aren't living in a country where our women are forced to be hidden behind their clothing, so why should pregnant women have to hide their bellies? |

I used to work at Motherhood Maternity and the swimsuits all are two pieces, the bottoms are cut wide in the front and go up over the belly and the tankini tops are cut wider in the front and are longer to go down over the belly. You never know how big you'll end up getting but the Motherhood stores do have a pregnancy pillow that you can try on with the clothes to get an idea for how they'll fit when you are bigger. With me, I barely showed with DD1 and wore all regular, non-maternity clothes. With DD2 I showed faster and a little more but wore mostly non-maternity clothes and a few fitted maternity tops. With DD3 I had one pair of maternity jeans, a denim skirt, and a few tank tops (that I still wear because they are comfy!) I LOVED showing off my little belly, hence the bikini. I never got stretch marks, either. Congrats to you, Lindsey! Best wishes for a happy, healthy pregnancy! My best advice to you is to keep (or start) exercising- even if it is just a daily walk. It will make your labor and delivery SOOOO much easier! |
