Another huge DA fan, here, too! I like spoilers, though, so I like that the episodes air in the UK first! I find it so funny that viewers get angry at the writers for killing off characters when it is the actors who have chosen not to renew their contracts. Really, there is no logical way to write out certain people when the characters would never choose to leave their families. (I'm trying not to give out spoilers!) Now a certain actor is leaving the show in Season 4 and she won't have to die- she could logically leave and have the possibility of coming back. Ok, I'll stop now before I give more away... :) |
On our local PBS station, there is a program called "Manor of Speaking." You can get free tickets to watch DA in a studio audience, and then they discuss the episode in "Manor of Speaking" immediately after. The audience asks questions, and they have a panel of experts that changes every episode, and they always have little tidbits of knowledge to add. Here is an example of one guest panel last season, from their facebook page: It's officially the biggest episode yet of Manor of Speaking - Martha Stewart, Lady Carnarvon (of Highclere Castle) & Holland Taylor will be joining Ernie Manouse, Helen Mann, The Professor Robert Patten and Butler Mr. Rogers (@Luke Wrobel) plus The Alley Theatre's Gregory Boyd & CultureMap's Tarra Gaines in this Sunday night's season Finale - immediatel;y following Downton Abbey - only on Ch8 - HoustonPBS FYI: Highclere Castle is the castle used as Downton Abbey This is their facebook page, but DO NOT go here if you aren't caught up because there WILL be spoilers: https://www.facebook.com/ManorSpeak I get a kick out of seeing how seriously the audience members of Manor of Speaking take the show, you would think they were talking about real people that they know personally! The audience has a broad mix of people. One episode they took a question from an audience member, and it was Joanne Herring, the socialite that was depicted in the movie "Charlie Wilson's War." |

A little more from one of the "experts" on Manor of Speaking, I don't think there are any spoilers here: Professor Patten shares perspectives on the artistry, richness of ‘Downton Abbey’ |

He didn't. He was supposed to be a potential love interest for Season 4, but it's now not happening. He's on an hilarious show in the UK called "Miranda". He went to school in my old hometown of Sheffield AND he's an Arsenal football & Sheffield Wednesday football supporter....so not only is he a hottie, but he's a hottie with exceptionally good taste ;) |
I love that show! I was ticked at the end of Season 3, but I'm looking forward to it starting again. Love the fashion, but am grateful I don't have to wear it. Looks hot & uncomfortable! LoL. Has anyone watched "Call the Midwife", also on PBS? I love it too. |

What about The White Queen on BBC tonight? Anyone watch it? I can't get enough of period dramas! |
Haven't heard of the The White Queen, but I did watch Mr. Selfridge. It was pretty good, but Downton Abbey's WAY better! I love the period pieces too. Such class mixed in with all that drama. Seems like most network tv shows now are cheesy & sleezy. |
"cheesy and sleezy" LOL, what a perfect description of most of the crap that is put out! I adore Downton Abbey, and have gotten several people at work hooked on it. I miss our Monday morning kvetching about Lady Mary's latest antics - she's such a snit! - and can't wait to see season 4. And of course, the Ladies Grantham and Crawley sniping at each other. I wonder how that will play out with the events of the finale? |
