Freaking out
 

I have surgery on Tuesday. I am freaking out. I still don't have my back brace because they messed up. I am stress eating must gained 10 pounds. I need a big drink.

Praying for you and for the surgery to go well. I can understand the nerves and freaking out. Are you on pre-op meds? If not - have a drink. It's Friday after all :D

I always hated the weekend before a knee surgery granted it is nothing like back but still they stressed me out.

Maybe they will overnight it if it doesn't get there today. Are you having a fixation or soft-tissue work only?

I keep thinking about you, and the long haul you have for recovery, but I keep thinking it will be worth it. Please ask John to update us on here or send me or someone a message so he can let us know how it went. Lots of prayers headed in your direction. Enjoy what you can of the rest of the weekend.

Thank you everyone for all your kind words. It has been a long ( almost 15 years) and hard road. I am not looking forward to it but if it at least brings me back to pain level 8 I will be happy. Hugs and puppy kisses to all

They are going to send it overnight. I hate disorganization. I am OCD. It drives me nuts. I am getting a Bilateral Laminectomy and Discectomy on L3-4 and L4-5

Seriously, be still think of the outcome, think of the healing, have faith and know that you can do this, you will do this and you will feel much better after its all over, you are a woman and you have already endured so much, your half way out of the forest!

MY thoughts and prayers are with you. My daughter ( 29 ) had back surgery in January, she is doing very well, this should have been done years ago for her but because of her age they held off, she has less pain now, I wish you the very best and pray you to will have no pain...

I will be lifting you up in my prayers. I believe in the power of prayer. I believe in the skill of the doctor you will have. Give this whole thing over to Jesus and let Him carry you through it. I did that with my mastectomy. It was so tough. I said this prayer before surgery, "I will clothe myself in the white light of Jesus and only good things will come to me."
Whatever you face, He gives you the strength and comfort for it. This life is filled with pain and sorrow but "I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me!" You can! I made it through chemo, hair loss, radiation, panic attacks, anxiety depression. You will make it and be stronger and feel better. Think positive thoughts, you will get through this, Teri. We will lift your up and you will feel the power of love surround you and healing will happen! Love you, be strong and take meds to keep you calm.

I will pray for your recovery

Very often during our patients' surgeries, the braces were not delivered until the morning of surgery - often by a rep having to drive it there himself! They will get it there somehow I am certain. That hospital and that brace company will see that it gets there if they have to rent a seat on a Gulfstream or use the company jet. I had an L4-5 and L5-S1 laminectomy/diskectomy when I had my surgery but they didn't put me in my brace right away but protocols have changed drastically since. I'm praying for you and thinking of you constantly.

How did you feel after the surgery? How long did it take for you to really be able to move about?

I was bedridden on my stomach for 1/2 week and then could lie on my back and at 10 days post-op went home. The next morning as I was watching TV lying on the den couch, the central heating unit exploded and began burning the house. I had to jump several times to get the electrical switch inside its closet turned off - it is high up and I could tell from all of the arcing and the smell that it was an electrical fire; and then get Danny out of his bed and out the window, which I had to open and it wouldn't come up - kind of stuck and then call 911. I then had to get back in here and use the fire extinguisher for a while and then the smoke was so bad I couldn't breathe so I had to to out the nearest bedroom window, again which I had to lift open and up and kick the screen off - all while my 18 mo. old son was outside where I had told him to stay and a neighbor was holding him and others were trying to get in the house. Needless to say, my back surgery was totally undone at that point and I had a lot of internal injuries and scarring. I'll bet your post-op course goes a lot smoother than that! Turning off the electricity to the electrical fire and using the fire extinguisher had helped put a lot of fire out and the FD only had some little fires to put out, use fans to blow out smoke and the damage was not that bad. We had to stay with Jimmy's parents until the house was fixed but we were lucky it didn't all go up the Fire Chief said. My back wasn't quite as lucky and it's been a horror ever since. But in about 9 mos. I was back working part time for the doctor and doing better. Jimmy always scolded me for not just getting Danny and getting right out of the house and letting it burn but I didn't think like that during the emergency - just did what I had to to save Danny and try to stop the fire as best I could. I wasn't even wearing my back brace during all of that as I had been lying down when the explosion happened and no time to get into it. I hope you first day back home is less eventful!

Omg ! That is crazy. Wow. I am so sorry you had to go through that. I understand when you go through something like a fire. You automatically just go into preservation. You don't think oh I am hurt I can do that.

I am only staying a day or two. Then home. I am so worried about Galen. We are in potty training. I won't be able to pick him up. Or play with him.

I got Tibbe at 9 mos. of age and got him housebroken so you don't worry about that now. Take care of your back and think about housebreaking later. You can pick is all up later when the surgeon says it is okay to pick him up and dash him outside or to the potty pad. Whatever age you housebreak them, they will pick it up in time. Just get well and let all the rest slide as much as possible. With a healthier back, you can be much more effective.

And I hope your first morning home after surgery goes a little better than mine did! :D All kidding aside, I will be praying mightily for you.

Me, too, Teri. I've been praying for you and that your pain isn't so bad.

My hubby had back surgery last year, on 3rd and 4th vertebrae they went in through the front of his throat. His recovery was quick, his pain is now minimal and you can't even see where the scar was.
Hope you have the same outcome as he did and feel much better abound maybe even pain free soon.
