I just finished making my 1st website
 
I've been thinking about having a website for awhile now & I finally broke down & made a google site. It was a real learning experience :confused: I am sure it needs a ton of tweeking but I'm happy for now with the results. Linda- it's really very similar to what I've been doing on FB; in fact, I don't think it's as well put together. I need to find a way to let people add embroidery & appliques still. *sigh*

Thank you Kat. It's harder than I thought it was going to be. I actually had TONS of pics uploaded that I'd spent a lot of time doing & got a message when I tried doing "just one more", that I had exceeded the file space allowed. aggghh, then I couldn't upload any at all so I wound up deleting many pictures & pretty much started over. That's why you'll see that my fabrics are linked back to FB.

Now if I could JUST figure out how to let people add embroidery & applique choices I'd be a happy girl!

I'm impressed! I always heard it was really a job all by itself just to put on together! I love that its organized so well. Very easy to navigate! I think you did very well. I will need to go shopping very soon!

Could you set up a file like you did for your fabric? Showing different fonts, colors etc? On Paypal, there's a block to add comments.. maybe can use that for personalized phrases/special requests... IDK just guessing here, lol.

Not that I shop a lot, lol, but some sites use drop down boxes on each item page for as many options that are available for each item: choose size, then a box appears to choose color, then a box appears to choose applique, embroidery or none, then a box appears to choose colors for embroidery or fabrics for applique depending on the buyer's last choice... etc.

Ok, seriously now...it's not that it was rocket science, more like I know the electronics side of computers not the data. It's only a google site & supposedly "easy" but I've run into little things that a normal joe just doesn't know about. If there had been HTML coding required I would have dumped it right away!

I've been playing with the "buy" buttons, we'll see if I can get it done. I'm thinking I'll need to add 5-6 options for embroidery & 5-6 for applique. My brain hurts...I'm going to go sew!

Im not sure if you have your mind set on the Google site but what about a Weebly site. There are no HTMLs that you have to transfer to your site. But there is a HTML opt if yu need it. All the tools are across the top of the page. I've designed several sites. I've used Myspace and Piczo but Weebly is by far the easiest that I've worked with. It is totally FREE.

I would be happy to give you some pointers and help you get started if you like. My site is in my signature and the site is www.weebly.com

Your site looks great! :-) I can vouch for the quality of your work!! It's excellent! The bed I ordered from you a year ago still looks fabulous and I have washed it a million times, because Cricket is a major tomboy and finds every mud puddle! I am very impressed with your abilities!! It is the best dog bed I have ever purchased! Truly! :-)

While I appreciate the offer of your help, I have to say the main reason I didn't go with Weebly, Yolo, or any of the recognized FREE sites is because my research shows those type sites aren't really very good in a business sense. While they may be fine for bloggers etc a store really needs to have a differant perspective. Wit a free site, the viewer gets the impression the site owner doesn't want to invest in their own website. We all know how first impressions are...LASTING.

it is very easy to access all your products which i think is wonderful and most important for the buyer! for your first website its awesome and youll learn as you go what you want to tweak and what not!! fabulous job!!
