Nail Polish and such How do you wear your nails? I have French manicure on mine, has anyone tried gel or other type of manicureish stuff? |
I used to have acrylic nails and faithfully had manicures every two weeks!! Usually a french manicure unless I knew I was working my part time job waitressing that weekend...then it was usually OPIs "Im not really a waitress" red. Better tips!! :) However, a year ago I was blessed with a second yorkie and I would much rather buy matching outfits for the girls then to get my nails done! Now they are short and either have clear or a very light color on them as I hate coloring my nails when they are short! |
Very plain, shortish and buffed. |
Essie Figi is the color on my nails 99% of the time. It's a very pale pink. I always do my ring fingers a different color or just add glitter or do nail art. I love painting my nails! It's bc when I was younger I played piano and I couldn't paint my nails. They'd be badly chipped. Now that I don't play anymore I can paint them. The idea of the gel polish is cool bc it lasts so long but you're holding your nails under a UV light...I am really paranoid about skin cancer so no gel nails for me! |
I love my manis and pedis:) I used to get very neutral colors OPI bubble bath was my fav. Now I actually get red, brown, peach and get a little more fun with it:) I also like the French manicures:) I go every 2 weeks and have started doing gel manicures so the color stays on longer:) |
I had great natural nails before Christmas, then decided to try gel-nails since I heard they would not harm your own nail like the acrylic ones. HA.....each time I went in to have them taken off and more applied, I was not aware the damage to my own nails that was going on. Not until I decided I just don't like trying to keep these things up, so had them taken off and got a manicure. Everyone of my nails were so damaged, I still haven't been able to let them grow past the finger tips. I'll never do anything else to them again. |
Short and unpolished.. I have horrible nails :D |
When my nails are short, I tend to go with dark colors. Black, dark purple, burgundy. when they're longer, I go for bright happy colors. Red, pinks... I even have vermillion. I've been wanting to try the black on black tipped matte mani. I need to find a matte top coat! I also want to try this brand of nail polish. Cult Nails - Welcome to the Cult! Haven't tried it yet. :) |

I had acrylic or gel nails for about 18 years. Then life happened and I had to give up somethings.. I gave up nails (but my dogs are groomed lol) So now, short and clean. With teaching food production it is better anyway. I do get my toes done ... |
how did they remove the gel nails...soaking them off? I polish them all sorts of ways no matter what length. I love to do mix colors and designs. |
I have natural long nails...nearly poked my eye out this morning so shortened them...I love bright orange, red, blue...anything really bright...compliments my skin tone. Tried acrylic when i was younger, didn't like the damage, so just grew my own...I do have professional pedicures every month though. |
I've done gel nails and shellac nails. Shellac Nails will not damage the nail beds like other gels do. There is a difference, and I won't get it done unless it is the cnd shellac system. |
I love mani pedis. My finger nails never last. The polish lasts a day or two lol. Last Friday I got them done for my sisters wedding on Saturday. I noticed I messed three nails. Can't take me anywhere lol |

I had long nails that were mine from age 11 until about 4yrs ago. I started taking a med that made them very thin and brittle so I now have acrylic nails, natural with lavendar tips. Sometimes I have pink tips, white tips or red tips. I do miss my nails, but I do not miss the polish chipping when I do dishes nor do I miss doing my own nails. |

I want to try doing something like that! |
Please put sunscreen on your hands and fingers before you go get a gel manicure, ladies! |
If you're looking for something new and trendy you could try out one of the new polishes that gives nails texture. OPI has the new liquid sand line and Zoya did one called Pixie Dust. Personally I like the Zoya collection more. Texture is huge is the nail world right now. If I wasn't so OCD about my nails being completely smooth I would definitely try out Zoya Chyna or Dahlia. But since I can't stand for my nails to not be smooth for now I'm sticking to OPI Pompeii Purple for a nice break into Spring color. It has been cloudy and rainy all day and I've been bummed out over some stuff so I'm really tempted to switch my manicure to Essie Wicked for a look that is less cheery. Otherwise the next color in my rotation will be Essie Orange, It's Obvious to capitalize on the orange trends in makeup going on right now. Have y'all seen the orange lipstick trend? |
I've done all of the above. I used to do acrylic nails, but they destroy your nail beds and look tacky (imo). I then tried the gel/shellac manicures. They are good, but they do mess up your nails a little. It isn't horrible, but it's not like regular nail polish. It stays on longer, but for now I am enjoying switching my polish every week with my OPI polishes. Like Carmen said, if you are going to get the gel manicures, wear sunscreen! It's like a tanning bed for your hands... |

I did the solar nails for a long time but stopped....no patience for sitting there every 2 weeks. I found myself sitting there thinking about other things I needed to do. Plus, I have saved a lot of money ... it gets costly and when you have as many pups getting sick as I do, you look for sacrifices you won't miss. It took quite some time for my nails to heal from those things. They were thin and so sensitive. Once in a while I think of going back because my nails are so short and stubby now, but I remind myself of how I felt having them....trapped! I am with Shinja....only go for pedicures now. |
