Question for Keurig owners I have 2 Keurig machines because my husband had one and I had one and we moved in together. His broke about 3 years ago and it was only 9 months old. I put it aside intending to call Keurig and never did. Well yesterday mine 'broke' so I called Customer Service. I read online and know people who have gotten the entire machine replaced at no cost. However, customer service would not do that for me. I had to pay $70 for a new machine and I have to pay to return the k-cup holder. I did it last night after we got 1 machine to work and the other was declared dead. I even mentioned to the woman on the phone that my dad got his 9 year old machine replaced for free just 2 months ago and our friends got their 7 year old machine replaced for free also. She told me she never heard of that and that I had to pay $70. So I ended up paying and now I feel like I should have questioned it more or asked to speak to a supervisor. I explained to the woman that the dead machine died 9 months after we bought it, and its been sitting in our storage room waiting for me to call. She didn't seem to care though. Actually she was not that pleasant at all. What should I do? Accept it and let it go? Should I try calling back? |
I know many companies have certain algorithms they must follow for phone calls...if customes says this, reply is this...many times, asking for a manager can open a new dialogue. I know for cellular service, threatening to change providers allows the phone rep to make different offers. You might try calling back and asking for a manager but since you already paid, it might not do much good. You might see about getting your 2nd malfunctioning machine replaced if they wont refund for the 1st one. |
It wouldnt hurt to call again and ask for a manager from the getgo. They might say yes, they might offer to let you pay less or they could just say no,buy it never hurts to ask. |
I got the Cuisinart single serve coffee maker that uses Keurig's cups. Keurig came up with a brilliant idea, and I love the coffee, but they don't make a very good coffee maker. Cuisinart appliances are fairly well made, and it does come with a three year warranty. I've had it about 6 months and it's working fine, but I'll keep my fingers crossed, these machines are too expensive to replace every year! Don't forget to descale it and with the Cuisinart you have to replace the filters every month. |
That is odd, I do not own one myself but have known 3 people to get these replaced for free too. |
I have the Hamilton Beach Brew Station.....I love my pot, and would pay twice the price to own one!...have had one since they first came out....have had the basket replaced twice over the last ?? 10 ?? 15?? years....they do it for free....but I drink an enormous amount of coffee during the day...one of those little single serve doo-lollies just wouldnt work for me....and I absolute ADORE DUNKIN DONUTS coffee, with Cream Broulet flavored coffee mate..... |

I would call back and say something like I felt in light of so many others you know having their unit replaced, you feel under appreciated, discriminated against and that your Customer Service Representative really didn't seem that interested in your plight, or seem to value your family's business that much in spite of the fact that your family has bought TWO of their expensive machines for a total of $_____. Now you are wondering if you shouldn't request a refund of your $70.00 and go with another company's coffeemaker entirely - someone who values keeping discriminating customers satisfied over the long haul. I would tell her that for that money, a coffee maker should serve us longer than 9 mos. or 3 years even and you feel burned, treated unfairly by the company if they can take that much money from your family for two units but not stand behind their product any better than that with your family when they clearly do with others as in the 9 year old machine. And that in this economy, you want to do business with a company interested in helping its customers, yadayadayada. Go for it - what do you have to lose? |
Wish there was a like button! Great rant there! Lol. I got the new machine yesterday shipped. Not sure I'm going to peruse further. Now I gotta call crockpot! Haha |
haha. Prob. any woman can drum up a rant in a heartbeat. Well, look at it this way, you can still write them a letter and put your words down in writing and co-address it to all the important movers and shakers in the company. You might get something from them if they don't comp your $70. |
I've never heard of Kurig not replacing parts for free. They tend to stand behind their products 100%. I would call and speak to someone higher up and if that does not bring a resolution, I'd go to their Facebook and post what happened and tell everyone not to buy Kurig because they did not do the right thing...lol and they'll be in contact ;) This works for most companies actually. |

Mine broke after 4months! It's sitting on my counter waiting for me to call the company... |
One of mine died after 9 months... but it could have been hard water. My other one has been working for 7 years. It stopped working last week and I called Keurig. I used a paper clip and cleaned out the needle (there are 3 holes in it) and it worked again! Guess it was just clogged up. Try cleaning out the needle, stick a paper clip into the 3 holes in it and kind of swish it around and see if it works after that. |
I got mine at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. I didn't buy a warranty with mine because they said they would replace it with the receipt at anytime if something happened. I've had it for 3 years and still works. I even use tap water which is suppose to be a no no. BTW... my receipt you can't even read. I've heard of a few people getting new ones for free. |
It's good to know you can't really rely on some of the reviews you read online, I trust my fellow Yorkietalkers so much more! :p |
I have been tempted to buy a Keurig but because hubby & I go thru a POT of coffee at a time, instead of a cup at a time, it would be very costly. But thanks for the info... This stuff is good to know! |

My daughter's Keurig died last week. She had it for a little over a year. She called Keurig and they replaced it for free. She already has her new coffee maker. |
You should by it next time from qvc they are excellent with returns. I have had two keruigs and no problems with either. I bought the first one that came out and then I bought the platinum series. I do use spring distilled water on them though. |

How do you like it so far? I'm seeing the platinum & platinum plus, not sure of the difference...never had one myself, not a coffee drinker...but I do love a good cuppa tea :) |
Keurig We have a single serve Keurig and love it. We don't drink much coffee so it is not expensive to use the K cups, but if you drink a lot it would probably be better to get a regular coffee maker. I am not surprised that they tend to replace the machine if any problems as they make the money on cups. However now the cups are available from other sources they may not be so generous with machine replacements? I do like the idea that for guests they can choose the beverage they want. |

I have the Platinum for coupled years now and love it. Once in awhile I get the urge for a plain ole cup of Maxwell House, so on those rare occasions, I have the plastic container to use in place of the k-cup. You just put a tiny coffee filter in it, drop it in like a k-cup and you can use any brand of coffee you want. |
I have a keurig bought it around july 2012 and its still working perfect, i use tap water. My previous roommate had one and i fell in love with it lol but his stopped working and was told that he could get it replaced for free. He never called (not sure why) and ended up throwing it away. |
I guess I have the platinum. It has a tray you can remove. It also have 3 cup settings. I use those cups with the rubber no burn slip covers(I got them at Dollar tree). Walmart sells cute ones for around 5-10 dollars though. I never removed tray with these travel cups plus they can go in the dishwasher!! You can't go wrong with a K-brewer. If you go through alot of coffee. I got a plastic cup and filters at Publix. I like them because no washing like the ones keruig makes...just throw out the filter. |
I have the platinum also and love it// my first keurig quit working after 5 years/ I drink coffee out of it every day and also in the summer I drink the iced tea// I do use filtered water |
I have the Platinum as well. We've went through 3 of them, didn't realize Keurig replaced them until the more recent break. We had to pay $60 since it had been over a year since we had bought it and had to send in our K-cup. It was worth it to me, because I love these things so much! I'm not even a coffee drinker! I only use it for hot chocolate during the winter. I think that's why ours go out so often. I really should "Vinegar it" more often so the mineral deposits don't clog it. |
