Supersede is still only a variant spelling and technically wrong but so many people have misspelled it over the centuries, dictionaries have added it as they do as language "evolves". |
"Supposabbly". For fun my sisters & I pronounced it with the B for a few days & it really rolls off the tongue nicely-it was tricky to get back to "supposedly". |

In the ED, people here in the south have a lot of vomikkin' instead of vomiting (after they are nauserated, of course) and they get "pancre-itis" instead of pancreatitis. And like Annie (dollydoodle) said, after saying it wrong a bunch of times (in jest), it becomes hard to say it right again! There are many, many more...in fact there are whole web sites dedicated just to the funny stuff people say in the ED...but those are among my top 5.:D The doctors laugh at my triages because I put in quotes exactly what the patient tells me. Who am I to assume what they meant to say? :yelrotflm |
How about quick, quicker, and is there a quickest? And when to use quick versus, fast, faster, fastest? HA I don't know the answer to the above. But usually I hear quicker used in sentences I personally would use faster, and certainly fastest versus quickest! Would you say " I was the quickest of the group" or I was the fastest of the group"? |

I've probably said this a hundred times, but one of my biggest peeves is when people say: "I was taken back when she said that" instead of "I was taken ABACK". Ohhhhh lordie that one just gets my back up in the worst way! I don't know why, but it does. |
