IPL / laser hair removal? Has anyone used a home IPL kit for hair removal? I'm super hairy, and would love to be able to wax less. The problem is, I'm olive-skinned, and my skin is also very sensitive and prone to scarring. I do have dark hair, which is supposed to be good because these systems target melanin. The home devices are so expensive, I don't see how I could buy one without trying it out first. I don't think my health insurance would cover a visit to a derm? I dunno, anyone have advice or experience? |
Anybody? Anybody at all? Am I the only hairy person on YT? |
I've never heard of that, but I looked it up and found this site: Do home laser hair removal kits really work? : Discussion Board soFeminine. In the past, I've read that laser treatments can cause scarring and that would be my luck. I don't think health insurance would cover it because it's considered cosmetic. I remove hair the old fashioned way, shaving, lol, and it exfoliates as well! Still can't understand how people can wax, so painful I think. |
I heard these discussed one morning on a local TV show and seems like 2 out of the 3 women questioned said they worked some but nothing great. Seems like 1 of the women was ok with hers. (P.S. I did a bikini wax once & you never want to go through anything like that ever ever ever!!! It is the worst, scariest, most depressing feeling when you realize the time to wait for the wax to cool is up and now the only way you are going to get that stuff off very very tender areas is to pull & pull quick & hard - or slow & drag the agony out like torture. It feels like you just pulled skin off!!!!!! You get really sick to your stomach. NEVER AGAIN!):wavecry::tongue030:shocked7q:shocked7q |
Yeah, I've done regular bikini waxes... sensitive skin and thick hair do not respond well to them. I think laser and IPL are different. I think. IPL is supposed to use a wider range of light wave lengths, and is less painful. But from what I've read, they aren't really permanent, they just make the hair grow back slower (which btw, I heard waxing/plucking did as well, and HA! So not NOT true for me). I dunno when I first heard about it, I heard that it actually killed the hair follicle, which sounded awesome. I'd like to try it, but is there any way to try without buying the whole kit and kaboodle? I guess I could get one that could be returned... I'd like to be able to test it in a dept store or something, but it sounds like there are a limited number of flashes in each cartridge or whatever, so probably not something they hand out free samples of. BTW, does anyone remember the epiLady, and how that was going to change our lives? HAHAHAHA! |

I think the NO NO system has a full money back guarantee, so you can try it and return it if you are not satisfied. Ive got thick dark hair and olive skin, my skin is rather sensitive also. Im curious about the NO NO system, but not enough to buy it right now. (Biggest layoff in my company's history is tomorrow, and I don't want to spend $200 right now on something I don't need to love it and have to return it if I do get laid off. uuuggghhhh) |
Here is a thread on professional laser hair removal: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...oval-work.html I doubt there is any in-home product that will give you the results you want. I've never had laser removal, but I recall reading that actress Alyssa Milano had her arms done and said it was more painful than having a tattoo. Maybe it depends on which part of your body you have done. |
Kim Kardashian swears by the Tria Laser Hair Removal, although it sounds like she went to a professional. |
