Have a question. Does anyone use their IPhone for Internet along with their IPad but don't have Internet provider. Would the iPad connect in places that have wifi without our having Internet provider? I only have the IPad, no computer and am wondering if it would be expensive using the IPhone connection for our IPad, would that work out reasonably okay without an internet provider. We had to have a satelite dish put up to connect with the internet, which is kinda costly. I don't get on line much anymore we got the phone in April but I haven't used it to get on Internet, my eye sight don't like the tiny screen :( really do like the IPad, touch screen ability. I am paying the extra for Internet both ways, am trying to figure out how to cut back on expenses. I can't believe all these increases in water, electricity, our refuse pickup went up twenty a month now the house and EQ was told has really gone up, So many out of work I just don't know how those poor folks can keep their utilities on at this rate. I gave up the magnetic cover because Jack has pacemaker, he uses the,iPad so much what a pleasure it is for him, I have loaded many games and lots,of music, the iPad goes everyplace we go ;) Appreciate reply back. Thanks, Patti and Jack |
Hi Patti, Ive looked into many options for internet. This is what I've found in my area. It tends to differ a lot from area to area though. - Satellite was not a good choice for us due to amount of trees and position of the dish and even winter weather can affect the connection of the dish, so we nixed that idea. - I tried DSL but our provider for that up here (1 and only) does not support a 64-bit laptop machine (which most new ones are now) so I couldn't get it to work. (that was the cheapest alternative, and they may support it now as that was 3 years ago). - If you get a Verizon air card you pay month by month but at a minimum it's $50 a month for limited connectivity. Soooooo ... believe it or not... we were literally down to 1 choice. I have a droid smart phone with the standard $30/month basic 3G service. Then we pay for Cable internet which is $60/month. I also have my ipad which has a data plan on it for $20 a month. So overall we pay $110/month to be WIRED! If I had made my phone into a 'hotspot' it would cost me $50 a month (still need the home internet though, so still $110 a month). So overall it was the same to put internet to my phone & iPad. When I am home or somewhere that I can connect to a wifi I use that, not the 3G on the iPad. This saves me from spending more than $20 a month on 3G for the iPad. The benefit of having both the phone internet and the iPad internet separately is that I don't need my phone with me to use my iPad (if you do the hotspot plan on your phone, then your phone has to be within range of your iPad all the time). IF I made my phone a hot spot, then I couldn't use the wifi on my iPad if say my phone was dead or not with me. I hope all that made any amount of sense! haha |
Now e erytime I try to download an app it makes me fill out this "security" questions with the dumbest questions ever. If I put cancel my app doesn't get downloaded. What is up with this? |
We bought a new iPad and decided on the one you can get a plan. If we decided not to purchase the plan for a while we can use the wifi, or we can purchase a plan. Its a great idea if you are not sure if you will only use wifi. Plus you can use it as a hotspot for your laptop to get wifi off of. :) |

The questions to download was directly from iTunes. If I didn't fill out the questions then the download would stop. Maybe a setting I have on my iTunes? It's an old iTunes acct with a credit card that no longer exists. I just didn't want to attach an active card to iTunes in case of anything. I only download free apps anyway. |
I don't have to answer questions either. You might google and see if there is a way to stop that. Google answers everything! :D |
Yeah, what stopped it, was me answering the questions! LOL I think it was probably a setting I did years ago and don't remember, and now using the itunes acct again it prompted me to update the questions. What's weird tho is the first few apps I downloaded didn't ask! |

I have also had problems connecting to some wifi's, usually it is because I had put the password in incorrectly. |
