I've been to the checking site more than once for a few days, today updated my virus/malware detection software, updated the firewall, Windows Updates, my computer model's software updates and run a full system scan looking for malware, viruses & trojans, etc. So far, done all I know to do! I hope I can get on the internet tomorrow! If you can't get on, they say call your internet provider for help.

Had your computer been infected with DNS changer malware you would have seen a red background. Please note, however, that if your ISP is redirecting DNS traffic for its customers you would have reached this site even though you are infected. For additional information regarding the DNS changer malware, please visit the FBI's website


So does that mean .. being green doesn't mean anything:eek:

That's what sent me to updating everything! And worrying! That FBI website is very involved for how to check!

You have to enter your IP address. Where do you find it?

I understood it to say just to enter any IP address. So I entered whitehouse.gov I think.

Okay, I finally found out how to check it right and went into Run, typed: ipconfig/all as the command prompt and saw my DNS servers were within the number range the FBI said were proper for home computers and none of the rogue server addresses were listed there. Mine was of the 192.168.X.XXX range so I guess it is okay. I don't have a router so I didn't do that step. I HATE blackhats & hackers & the people putting us through this!

I also found my own IP address & input it on the FBI website & it said I wasn't using a rogue DNS server. I pray that service is right!

I got mine from Ask.com. I am sure could look it up on the config menu but ran out of patience!

Well since I am so computer stupid, I did click on the link and got a Green. I have also run just virus scan and am good to go there.

If something was to happen, I wouldn't how to fix it at all. This crap really scares me so much. My computer is my link to the outside world and my friends.

Look up your IP address, write it down & input it on the link below's blank that says "Check Your DNS" and then hit enter. It will tell you if you are using a rogue DNS or not.

I got the website from my cable company and checked both my PC and laptop and they both showed green. :)

I believe that to be the long way of saying you are okay. That's what mine said. I think one of the articles alluded to some such wording.

Is this like the Y2K thing? All hype and nothing happens? I haven't heard this from the news or any credible site. Just word of mouth from some pretty dumb coworkers. How do you know if the site checking you for the malware is legit?

This is a credible threat...it's been on the news and in the papers here. My cable/internet company is the one who gave me the link to check for the malware.

Guess I don't watch enough TV or read enough papers. Thanks for clearing that up. I might go check that now. :) I don't like clicking on things if I don't know what they are.

I remember when my little bro was in jr high, he was researching the white house. He clicked on whitehouse.com, and was he surprised at what he found!

Everyone everywhere is warning about it. It's almost a meme. I linked on the site originally from ABC news website I think but separately searched it on Google also. The FBI needs victims to report to them from their website for the case they are building. If anyone does get hit with it, they want to know via a complaint form on their site.

Well, this is just tooooo much crap for a computer illiterate senior!!!! I checked mine thru the link given on ABC news, came up green...then read all this stuff on here about IP something or other....I am able to get on line this am, so I guess I am OK.....................
