Baby mauled and killed by pit bulls? I am saddened to read yet another story of a baby being mauled to death by dogs. I reserve my personal opinions at this time due to insufficient details. But, I must say that I do not get why some humans will purposely "train" dogs to attack and put the dogs and others at risk. 8-month-old boy dies after dog attack near San Diego - U.S. News |
So sorry to read this. |
What a terrible tragedy. That poor baby! |
 |
How sad....what that poor baby must have gone through...what were these parents thinking!!! I know pits get a bad rap all of the time...and I know this is a touchy subject here but, they are a very powerful dog....I have heard of good pits, being raised as pups in a loving home being sweet and gentle turn. But to intentionally have 3 of them that are aggressive is just insane! you are asking for trouble....I love all animals...big and small and know that any animal can turn nasty but to intentionally own and already aggressive animal is just asking for trouble.....I am NOT posting this to start a fight...this is just my opinion... |
This is so sad that little dogs don't have a choice against big bully dogs. Our prayers are with the family. |
I live in SD and saw the report on TV. The neighbor said he never noticed the dogs being agressive expect, "when they mauled my cat." NICE! They showed the three pits in the animal control and they all were calm and scared. I'm sure they will be put down because it is not known which dog or dogs did it. Homicide is investigating the situation. |
You know our hearts have to go out to the owner of the pit bulls to because they love their baby's the same as we do our's. It's a shame maybe the justice in animal law should be started in our law when someone is hurt or injured by another they are put down. |

This is so very very sad. And I just want to say, an 8mth infant can't defend itself against any dog; even a Yorkie! And having said that, I would let no dog of any age or breed around my baby unsupervised. What were these parents thinking. |

How tragic! My thoughts and prayers are with the child's family as well as the pittbulls' family. |
How sad! A friend of mines niece was recently attacked by a pittie and now he is anti-pitbull. I had a pittie years ago, Bonnie, she was a sweet dog and I was blessed to have her. I hate the bad rap they get when something like this happens. As a teenager I was attacked by two dogs at once, was bit by a dog, cat and even ferret as a child and I still love all those species. |

Can you imagine anything worse than one or more beloved family members actually killing another - especially a precious, innocent baby? And now all three are dead. I cannot imagine what those people are going through. I can't imagine how one can come out of something like that sane unless they have tremendous grace & mental strength. I think the shock must stay around for months. That family is in my prayers. |
So sad, this happened to a young 12 year old girl near to where I live and she did not live. The family had the dog from a pup and their daughter was just a little one at that time. No problems but on this one day, it's background somewhere who knows how far back in it's pedigree, showed it's ugly face. If you want protection buy a security system and if you want a dog with children look to a breed that has been known to be gentle and not one so one can look macho. These pictures you see of babies and bit bulls together make me sick and just wonder what kind of people would take chances like that. Many states have laws against ownership of this breed and others. Insurance companies have the stats on this because they are the ones who have had to pay for these many injuries. It's these companies who have helped to put laws in place. |
Those people probably didn't know about the breed's reputation or didn't think their dogs could be that kind of dog or were just in denial. Who knows? I do know that those big old sweet Pits are easy to love. They are extremely loving & physical dogs - love to touch & cuddle, kiss you & keep pressing for more. You would never know by the way most act around humans what can be hidden within their genetic make-up. And this might have been a young couple & sometimes the young just don't believe bad things they hear about can really touch their lives. Still your heart just aches for that family and their great loss. |
Wow this is the third baby death by a large breed dog in a year. I guess I just don't understand what parents are thinking. Leaving a child alone with three pit bulls? |
So sorry I misunderstood what I read, I related this story to the little Yorkie that had been hurt by the pit bulls. I agree how could a parent leave an 8 mth old baby where the dogs could get to her. So sorry |
YorkieTalk has a wide audience and I think anytime we can bring something like this to the attention of people who may not we aware of what might happen down the road we are doing a great service. When in less demand, the less often they will be bred. |

I'm also curious about these families, I know they have been punished by the death of the child, but I hope they look into the family dynamics, why wasn't anyone around to supervise the child? Everyone thinks mine is so sweet and calm they would ever attack |

I didn't know Chachi had a pit bull either.....well I'm sure she would not let young children unsupervised. Nancy now the fact that insurance is required should cut back on some breeding and for those that do not buy the insurance knowing they could lose their home from their dog's bite should help but you are right the dog fighting and the gambling that goes along with it is big business, yet can't understand why more have not been shut down. The cruelty to the dog alone should warrant it. |
She was being funny. Im not a big dog person |

I had a well bred German Shephard when my kids were little (they are in their 40's now) and she was gentle but protective. Anyone could pet her but when someone tried to break into our house, she tore huge gouges in a solid wood door protecting us. I always felt comfortable with her around. I MAYBE would consider a pit bull if it was WELL BRED but not if I had children or other pets. Sorry PB lovers....with what has been done with the breed I just don't trust them. Louise |
