okay... I am going to completely DISAGREE! Pit bulls like few here have said are good dogs like anything else....it depends on the owner. I own a pitbull and a yorkie and soon another yorkie"maddy" and they are fine .. I also have a mini schnauzer "mia" and a cocker spaniel "daisy"... My little peanut is a RED NOSE PITBULL and he is the SWEETEST thing, but I RAISED him..... he knows how to shake your hand hi, rolls over, plays dead, sits and fetches... It really bothers me how there are people out there that are very IGNORANT about this breed! I mean how can you say something about a breed you have NEVER had! That's why we get mad because "other non-yorkie owning people" say ignorant things about these babies without having them. And yes if you have never had one or raised one you are in NO PLACE to say anything in retrospect to this breed.... If I have never owned a corvette , why would I give my opinion on how it runs, drives and costly it is to repair it? RED HONEY..... your fiancee has a point.. if you raise them together they will get along better. It's such a cute picture seeing a BIG dog with a LITTLE one get along and play. Dogs are a very smart breed. They will act and behave as what you have raised them on. My pitbull is soo loving and very protective of me to make sure no one harms me.... I KNOW he would give his life to save mine as would I .... so please don't let other people's bad experiences influence your decision. This is something you and your fiancee need to agree amongst each other. Good luck!!

Actually , we have 3 at the shelter . Those dogs aren't making trouble at all .
There is one that is so lonely and crying his heart out . The girls here were afraid to go see them , they gave me their places . Funny , I went and came out in one piece .

The major problems don't come from the dog only .

Seriously, without saying a word one way or the other about Pit Bulls, I would not combine a large dog and a Yorkie. I especially wouldn't do it if your Yorkie is on the small side. They are just too fragile.

This would be a "deal breaker" for me.

that's true.. There was a fmaily here that had their pitbull for 7 years. biggest baby ever in the world and the people treated it like it was a child. Well the saddest thing happened...the 2 yr. old child they had was sitting ont he floor playing, not doing anything to the dog and the dog just went over and bit the childs face!! :mad: :mad:. I would not own a pit bull at all and if my husband brought one home which he wouldnt because he dont trust or like them either..than I would probably make him leave. I would sit down with your fiance and try to negotiate a lab or even a boxer.. I like both and there both great with children and our fur babies!

I also think that you hear about so many pit bull attacks because the media knows that what will cause the most stir...
Another problem is the victims, police, media.... can not properly identify the breed attacking and too many people who see any short haired medium sized dog think it is a pitbull. I own a boxer and many if not most people I see on our walks mistake her for a pit bull almost daily.

you make some interesting points but there IS a reason pitbulls have such a bad reputation and are scared of..how many attacks has there been by pitbulls on their own owners, children and other dogs just liek rotweilers but thats a different topic. I understand your defending because you have one. I hope all is good for you forever. Thats how My husband and I feel about pitbulls also. Theres enough of them in my neighborhood that I feel I can give that opinion without just relying on what you hear in the news. Thats what my husband always says " how many times do you see a pack of yorkies maul someone.

If you do not want a large dog that can bite and cause damage...get a FAKE dog. Any breed of dogs CAN bite...and pitbulls are NOT the only breed used in fight!! And so most of you know, a rott has a stronger bite than a pit and before the media focussed their horror stories on pits, it was on the rotts and dobermans...so do REAL research with people who breed and really work with the breed, whatever breed you choose to have, be it a pit, boxer or even a lab! And remember, even Labs do bite and attack!

My chi was attacked by a chow chow...but never by a pit, and both breeds roam free in my neighbohood...so we cannot generalize, by the action of the owner that lets his dog out in the street i can tell you that now way in hell that dog was properly raised. Like pits or don;t like them, i don;t care but it bothers me all the misconceptions about this breed, there is no other breed to suffer like they do :(
