Dog strollers- Practical or Ridiculous Personally I think dog strollers are a great idea. My little gracie gets tired after walking for a little and I have a german shepherd that I walk two miles everyday. I have my stroller on order and it should be arriving next week. I want gracie to be able to socialize, get fresh air and enjoy our walks, without me having to carry her halfway through. This is the stroller I am getting New BestPet Beige Sporty Pet Jogger Jogging Dog Cat Stroller Carrier:Amazon:Pet Supplies I know most of my friends think I am out of my mind for getting the dog a stroller. what does everyone else think? |
LOL! Many of us here have strollers. I think they are great. Our boys often get tired and carrying two of them are just too much to carry. Also I feel they are safer from roaming dogs when we are out. |
I'm not a fan, I think a dog no matter how small, are capable of walking, but it's just my opinion and it's def not a popular one. I mean I don't care if someone chooses to use one... and I am not going to judge because maybe the dog is sick, or old, but still wants to come along, etc. The only way I'd ever see myself actually using one is if Jackson was too old or sick to walk, etc. I have met loads of small dogs, under 5lbs, who can walk 2-5 miles easily and seen way too many ppl who use strollers as a way to baby their dog and further treat it like a child... LoL but I know my opinion is an unpopular one around here. |
I love the though of getting a stroller!!! Sophia could walk for days on end, she can't get enough! But Brody, loves the outside.... but hates walking! He would have soo much fun in one! Do update us and let us know how the new stroller works out!! |
I have a stroller. Mina walks unless we are in a crowd. Once or twice a week I take EVERYBODY for a walk. Mina and Amigo walk next to the stroller (on leash), Buddie walks part of the way (working on weight loss but he has CT),Skittles trades out with buddie (enlarged heart and cannt make it very far but he loves to go for walks,Taffy if recovering from a torn ACL and is not allowed to walk any distance and she loves to GO. So a stroller is important at my house. At some point I will probably have to get one that is a bit more sturdy. |
I love my stroller! I use them for a variety of reasons. I use one at the dog park because my disabled baby has a hard time, and wears out far quicker then my others, and needs somewhere to rest. She also will get really bad sores if she walks on gravel, pavement, or any rough surface much at all because of the way she has to get around due to her disabilities. Without the stroller it'd be almost impossible to allow her to go to the park with us, and she loves going! Same for walks - Although I must admit since Gina got attacked I'm alot more hesitant to go for walks in my neighborhood! That said, I do see the downside as well, it's all a matter of how they're used! |
I have one and love it especially at pet expos where there a lot of people walking around and Callie will get nervous and begs me to pick her up the whole time and 16 pounds is not light to be carrying around for a few hours plus she could get stepped on. That's really the only time I use it. Except when we go out of town sometimes I use it to carry all her stuff I have to take into my familys home or from the car to the hotel room because its her bag, pop up playpen, my bag, and my purse. She loves her stroller like crazy and tries to jump in it when I first pop it up. It also works great to put my moms rescue Sammy in who is the same size but is still some scared of other dogs right now. |

I think perhaps it may be different in the UK? I think I have seen perhaps a dog stroller once...? Ever? I would never get one, they're just not for me. |
I wouldn't push one but that's me. It will reach a time here in Phoenix when I don't want Milo walking on the hot concrete so I'll use the over shoulder carrier I have for trips to the vet and so on. Just one less thing to mess with. |
I used to think dog strollers were ridiculous before I joined YT and to be honest, I'd still be embarrassed to use one because I know the general population thinks they are ridiculous too. However, people here have said it can be easier to take several dogs out at once. And the points made above about a dog that tires easily. I don't think Thor has ever been truly tired in his life, so it's hard for me to imagine that. :D If I take him somewhere crowded, I usually have him in a purse or a sling, and I've overheard people making nasty comments about that as well, so I guess you can't always worry too much about what strangers think. And he's under 4 lbs, so carrying him is not difficult. |

I think there are lots of good reasons to use a stroller. But healthy dogs even small ones, should be able to do a good hour (at least walk) a day. A stroller wouldn't work so well in our house, cause we like to walk on trails, more so than just a city sidewalk. |
thank you for everyone who responded! Strollers arent for everyone but I think I will enjoy mine. I will post pics and let everyone know how mine works for me! |

lol I actually need one now....Lula is not so good for long walks and my other two so enjoy a 45 min walk daily so this might be the perfect solution and so I'm on board with it!!! hehe. I really like this one. |
I have a small stroller when I take one of my babies out. I have difficulty with mobility myself and she likes tobe with me where ever I go in order to do this I can't hold her safely whle using my cane so a stroller works well when we are out in places. Just as she has a carseat in the car where she is strapped in for safely. |
That is a nice one. I would like to have one of those. I have one not sure the brad its a preety good one but would like to have alittle bigger one. Someone dropped something off to my house the other day and left it on my screened in porch. She ask me "why do you have a baby stroller on your porch" LOL its a dog stroller, I thought the lady would die laughing she said she never heard of such. |

I do use the stroller for afternoon walks when he just gets too hot to take them. |
I use a stroller with CoCo all the time and it is for her own good... I live in Florida and I have seen many Hawks, coyotes the coyotes will sneak up and grab your furbaby while you are holding the leash and there is nothing you can do.. I have a neighbor whose Chi was taken by a hawk, she survived but had 50 stiches from the hawks talons and beak... I have seen big dogs in the little dogs park and they have been attacked... it only takes a second for something to happen!! I will push my stroller proudly down any street, park, festival etc... It really helps .. and CoCo feels like a Diva... Love mine!!! |
We are a family of runners so Cali has been running since we got her a 9 months. When I say we run, I'm talking sometimes 9 to 11 miles a day when my son is on military leave. If the pavement is too hot or too cold, or their is too much gravel rough places I put her in the stroller and can keep running. That being said, she is 4.2 or 4.5 pounds and she can easily run 5 miles with us on a day when the weather and roadways are good ( and that is not walking , just running but she is in great shape and has done it for years). |
I'm with Brit, I think they're downright silly. To each their own. I know we are judged as a group for having wardrobes for our babies. :p I draw the line at strollers. Kaji needs the exercise and I pick him up for everything else. For shopping, walking in crowded areas, etc I pick him up. If I know it's dangerous and I can't take Kaji anyway, he stays at home. I was going to take him to Dodger stadium this May, and there is no way I'd take him in a stroller. It's a crowded place, and a stroller simply wouldn't work. |

Yup, they are ridiculous. They look ridiculous and you feel ridiculous pushing one....and YES I have one :D It only gets used at fairs & festivals, where there is alot of activity and alot of people walking around. I just think it's safer in that environment (and it gives me a place to store stuff I don't want to carry). It also came in really handy after ZoE's spay. I zipped her in it and rolled her to wherever I was working around the house, so she was near me. |
My boyfriend thinks its ridiculous. As long as he doesnt have to push it I think he'll be okay. As for walking, She isn't great on thr leash, but she is improving, and I dont plan on using the stroller all the time. Just like everyone mentioned, crowded events, Long walks with my shepherd Apache, and trips to the park. |
What was the price for that stroller? It looks very nice and sturdy. I have wanted one for special events like mentioned above and agree that a stroller would make it a bit easier to carry multiple items/ dogs safely. Max is my baby and I love treating him like a child...sorry Brit. I can't have any skin babies of my own so that's my way of expressing my maternal instinct. ;) |
We are on our second one and we would never be without it. I can take the girls to the mall and all the stores in it without being booted out, simply because they are not running around on the floor. When we go inland to shop, it's really hot in the summer and just too hot for them to walk on the sidewalks even with shoes on because their little bodies and faces are so close to the pavement where the heat rises and just "carrying" them isn't an option either and I don't want to leave them at home simply because strollers are silly or some such nonsense. The stroller is wonderful if they have bad knees, or are blind like my little Delsi was, or are seniors who just can't walk too much, or it's crowded where they could easily get kicked or stepped on and so on. My husband even pushes the stroller without any hesitation and he's a big man at 6' 2" and 190 lbs. He said they do have their place and it doesn't matter to him what people think as long as his little "princesses" are comfortable. :D |
