Not such good news with DH Well the appt did not go like we would have liked. Dh will be having more surgery next week. They will be taking bone from his hip. And put in the fibla area. Also having surgery on his big toe it will not bend right. And a little skin graphing. And another at least 12 weeks no walking on this leg. We are both very bummed. Just wanted to update the ones that have been following our story For the new people who did not know what happened. Dh fell of a ladder the day before thanksgiving And crushed his femur and tibla. Today marks 5 months of no pressure on this leg. To say the least it has been along time. Thanks everyone for the prayers and I know we don't have it as bad as some. We will survive but just a bummer day.:( |
That is some sad news.... keeping you and your DH in my thoughts and prayers.... |
Oh, I so sorry for the disappointing news. Continuing prayers for your DH for healing and recovery. Both of you try to stay strong. |
I am so sorry. I can't imagine how frustrating that news is. Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way. Hopefully this surgery will be what it takes to kick his healing cells into action. I hope so. |
So sorry to hear this disappointing news. I am keeping your husband in my prayers that the surgery will be the last and he can heal properly. |
I'm sorry you didn't get better news. Sending more good thoughts and prayers to you both, hugs too! |
I am so sorry. I know it wasn't the news you wanted to hear. Hopefully this will be the end of it and he will able to be more back to normal. I know it has been a long road for both of you. Hugs and prayers. |
oh girl, I am so sorry, sending LOts of prayers your way and specially for your hubby.. hugs, Carmen |
I am so sorry that you didn't get better news today:( I know if you DH is like mine he is going stir crazy. Sending prayers that this surgery is what it takes to get that leg to heal like it should. |
I hope things turn around soon. I wish the news was better for him. You are both in my prayers. And always sending hugs your way. |
I'm so sorry to hear about this - about the need for all the additional surgery. Be sure that he follows the surgeon's absolute orders during the entire post-op course as this type of injury can lead to mal-union, non-union and/or osteomyelitis which are pretty bad and no fun if unresponsive to treatment. So encourage him to do everything the doctor advises when he advises and how he advises so he will come out of this faster and healed finally and fully. And thank goodness for today's wonderful orthopedic surgery fixation & restorative/bone grafting techniques as these injuries in the past were often crippling or worse. So I know the need for all this additional surgery is so awful to face but thank goodness he can be fixed. My prayers will be with you, your DH & that ortho. surgeon. |
Thanks everyone he is really getting tired of this whole thing. But he does follow the doctors rules. He is so ready to go back to work. I do not know anything about bone grafting. Has anyone else had this done? Is there a change your body will reject your own bone. I never thought about that.:(. We thought for sure we would have different news today. |
Well, some bone grafts don't take for various reasons but if you have a good Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, the incidence of this happening is small these days. Some times all they use is the patient's own morselized bone or they use an actual iliac or tibial dowel or other type graft when bone grafting is done - or donor bone may be used. Many ACL repairs involve bone grafting. A lot of elbow ligament repairs involve bone grafting. And it is often used in non- or mal-union of fractures. Athletes have these types of surgeries all the time and do very well. Lower limb long bone surgery is highly successful when the patient follows doc's advice to the letter. I know he's pretty bummed and I sure hope he recovers quickly and it's all over soon. Having much surgery and PT and doctor's visits are no fun. |
I'm so sorry! I, too, was hoping for good news. I hate that he has to go through all of that. It's been such a long road. I'll keep him in my prayers that this will be the end of his surgeries. |
They said they will take the bone from his hip. We are doing this in Rochester Minnesots and do believe he has a great surgeon. They are also bringing in another surgeon to try to see what they can do with his big toe. The surgeon in our town went through a main vein (another long story). Not sure if that was the cause or both bones being crushed anyways his big toe will not straighten out. No promises they can fix it but hoping they can. Worried it will rub in a shoe or boot if they can not get it fixed. They were suppose to call this afternoon with when they will do the surgery next week. But did not |
gosh Im so sorry to hear about your dh. hugs and prayers from us |
Well that is really disappointing I know. Good news is there are great Otho surgeons where DH is going and you do want if fixed right. Prayers and best wishes headed your way. |
So very sorry your news wasn't better. Will keep you and your dh in my thoughts and prayers. |
:hug:Hugs and prayers to you and your husband. |
So sorry about his fall, sounds like he has excellent Dr.s. Prayers for complete healing. I had low back fusion many years ago, they took bone from my hip for the fusion, no problem of rejection. At that time my Orthopedic and Neuro Surgeons preferred to do this way as they said less chance of any problem. The worst part for me was being flat for six weeks and not being able to turn or move about, and had to be log turned by nurses frequently. Was in a body brace for a year afterwards. I hear things are more advanced now and less recovery time. Prayers for him to be back doing all that he wants to soon. Will watch For update. hug from the both of us, Patti and Jack |
I'm sorry to hear that your poor hubby will have to endure more procedures:( I hope and pray that these are the final ones and that his recovery will be speedy, once these things are taken care of. I'm sure he's pretty bummed about not being able to work, my DH would be so depressed if this happened to him. Sending thoughts and prayers that things will get better and SOON:love: |
sorry i understand how this feels. different circumstances but understand your disappointment. good luck with the upcoming surgery..stay strong and as positive as possible. i will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. |
oh .. I am so sorry!! I do understand how you must feel but keep up hope and remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel!! |
Sorry the news wasn't better. Keeping you both in my prayers. |
I would think the toe would be the easiest part, but what do I know? I hope you find out soon when they will do the surgery. It's awful when they say they'll call and then they don't. Keeping you all in my thoughts. |
So sorry to hear! Hopefully this will be the last of the surgeries and he can start on his way to a proper healing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and DH for a speedy recovery after his surgery (and of course you all will be in my thoughts and prayers during his surgery). |
surgery will be may 4th Thank you all for the nice comments and the prayers. We will get through this. Its hard to keep your spirits up when it has been five months already. And now at least another three to go. Both of us were hoping he would be back to work by now. Guess that was not suppose to be. One thing he did say on the ride home yesterday was Well Riley will be happy that he will have my lap for another three months lol These dogs have kept him smiling and laughing. Good for a soul |

So sad to hear this...my sisters husband fell off a ladder a couple years ago and broke his spine. He is in a wheelchair now and is so depressed about it. So sad that the best people have the worst things happen to them. Praying yall stay strong and things improve from here. |
oh wow.. poor guy really did a number on his leg. I remember when you first mentioned the fall here. Like you said it could be worse... but it is pretty bad and that is a long time for a able bodied person to be off their leg! I hope he can hang in there for 12 more weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both! |
