Before you shop at Target you might want to read this Consumer complaints about Target Stores Returns and Exchange Policy I have had a couple of bad experiences trying to return an item at Target shortly after purchase with a receipt. After reading these stories from others, I see I am not alone with my bad experiences. These reports are unbelievable. I just want to make people aware to make sure you are buying an item that you will not need to return when you shop at Target or Target online. |
Don't use PayPal Would be one lesson. I use Costco, they will take anything back. I have returned stuff that was a year old. |

I quit shopping there years ago for the same reason |
I've had problems returning things at Target as well. I rarely purchase from that store these days. |
My mom has bought a lot of stuff from Target that she has returned with no probs and it normally only takes her 2 minutes to return it. Glad we got the good Target :). |
I think Target has a very generous return policy. People want newer and newer products and this especially true in electronics. The receipt clearly told her she had 45 days to return it, and she waited longer because her daughter was sick. Sorry, but who do you think pays for that? Target shoppers. Now if the product is defective, that's one thing, but just because a new version came out, no, that's just not right. I've seen some of the things they take back, and I think they are too generous. |
I love Target, and I've never had a problem returning stuff there before. They even took back a Guitar Hero. |
I have had to return a few times and have never had any problems...... |
I LOVEEEE Target! I've always thought their return department is exceptional. Actually made a return today and it went smoothly! I bought potato salad last week and didn't realize until I got home that it was already open (gross). They returned my $$ :) |
no issues with returns at Target, Walmart is just as easy....I would never take something back that was over 2 months old unless it was a big ticket item. I worked the chargeback area at Target in the late 80's--the stuff they would write off and had to destroy per the agreement with the manufacturer. |
I've always thought Target should use the same return policy that Wal-Mart has ~ they take ANYTHING back. I'm not a big 'returner' by the way; I simply don't have the time. Our Wal-Mart back home was always jammed with customers. Target - not so much. Now that we've moved - I'm loving the Mejier Stores. |

I worry about our Target; I do like to have choices but it seems empty half the time. Perhaps it's just the difference in management at the area stores. |

I love target. I have never had any difficulty returning anything from target if fact one time I didnt have a receipt for the item I needed to return or exchange and the girl looked up the code on the tag and saw where I had purchased it and gave me my money for it, thats pretty good Ive never seen anyone do that |
Ive never had a problem returning things at Target either. However.... they stick to the 'no receipt, then you get a gift card' policy. I think thats kind of old school. But Ive been able to return things there with no problems, as long as I have the receipt. Macys return policy is amazing. I never need a receipt to return something. As long as the tag is on it, they take it back and give you the value either back to your Macys card, or cash. Macys also will let you use coupons on things that you bought weeks ago/months ago, if they still have the tag on it also. Just bring in the item and the coupon. |

I do think consumers are very unfair with these stores, and expect too much. I know the saying is "The customer is always right" I just strongly disagree with that statement. Recently, Target Style one of tatget's Facebook pages had a giveaway. It was a "while supplies last" kind of thing. People were furious when the site crashed, had hiccups, or whatever you want to call it, and some people didn't get a confirmation number. People ranted on that site about this and that all the time forgetting that it was a giveaway! No one is entitled to free stuff. If it was an item they ordered and paid for, I would understand, but something that was free?!?! Those that did get a bag were complaining that it hadn't arrived yet, one week after the giveaway. The rules clearly stated "allow 4-6 weeks for delivery".:facepalm: Sorry for the rant. |

Lol, yes Wal-Mart shoppers are known for their attire! |
I've never had a problem returning anything to Target. There was one time I didn't have my receipt but they were able to look it up on the card that I purchased it on and returned it. I was told that I could return 2 items a year without a receipt. I've never had to do so since I normally keep my reciepts. |

Also at Macy's... one time I had the receipt. The girl said, oh you don't need the receipt, the bar code is right here! She did the transaction and tried to give me back store credit. I said, no I paid with cash, I want cash back. she said, no the register is telling me gift card. So I made her redo it with my original receipt, and guess what? I got cash back. I used to work for a department store, so I know how it works. Haven' been to Macy's in quite some years. Any department store for that matter. |
