Well, this is what I heard from Twitter and then looked up on my own. I know the New York Times called Zimmerman a "white Hispanic"?!?! Can you imagine them calling a racially mixed black person such as President Obama a "white black" or a "black white"? There would be such a hue & cry over that kind of labelling we would never hear the end of it. But not in this case. Hardly anyone has protested that attempt to twist the story ever so subtly. Even some newscasts on TV used that "white Hispanic" label. It is just part of the media's way to stir up bad feelings and increase newspaper readership, online hits and TV ratings. I think our media would be almost happy if they could create riots and big stories to cover and the way they drive a story can certainly foster those things when they keep covering a story over & over while other stories go uncovered. Are they just biased or lazy and don't want to investigate & flesh out more than a few stories they tell repeatedly? I know I saw from another Twitter link an online copy of Mr. Zimmerman's voter registration and he lists himself as Hispanic and Democrat on the form - not "white" or "white Hispanic". The NY Times had access to that form and yet they called him "white Hispanic" in a story! This kind of news coverage makes you wonder if we ever get any true stories from the media without a trial where we can follow the developments ourselves. It is so worrisome.

I think you can be Hispanic and also be black. I think the term "Hispanic" can mean many things linking people to Spain and Mexico, and probably other places as well, but White and Black are races and you can be Hispanic and still be white or black or even Asian. We know that there can be combinations of racial/ethnic designators important to authorities for certain purposes but the government, generally speaking, and most Hispanics don't make such distinctions or qualify the term "Hispanic" like the NYT is doing in this seemingly specious instance. I personally nor have many others ever heard of a person charged with a crime being so designated by a newspaper or media report before. And I've read a lot of newspapers. And that was the point - that a media powerhouse is using such a term in this case with questionable motives since they routinely do not use it - some say never have, according to the many reports of other news agencies.

Keep in mind that Zimmerman may have jumped Trayvon and a fight ensued. Bottom line, an unarmed person is dead. I still don't understand the gun being there...never will. You simply don't follow people around with a gun in my mind unless you are looking for a problem.

I agree, and definitely bc Mr. Zimmerman has had three arrests due to violent acts. No charges bc of who is daddy is - lucky George. But if anyone of us w/o a father who is a district magistrate had an arrest due to a violent act, our concealed weapons permit would be pulled. I wish we could have gotten some due process in those arrests - as one of them would was a violent resisting of arrest by a police officer.

I think further investigation is warranted. Unfortunately for Mr. Zimmerman, you cannot pick a fight in this country, and when the person you aggressed against fights back, take out a gun and shoot them. Bar fights would take on a whole new light if this was the case.

Had a concealed carry permit, many people have them. If you remember back to the begining of this Zimmerman wasn't on block watch. He was on his way to Target when he noticed some suspicious activity and decided to investigate it, he then call the cops.

I don't care that he had a permit! That is NOT the issue. If he took and understood the classes for that permit he would know and understand and AVOID following people on the streets. No one will ever convince me that his behavior was appropriate. He got out of his car with a gun and followed Trayvon...and THEN called the police. He is NOT a cop or an "investigator" ...if he saw something suspicious, he should have immediately called the police.

I don't think anyone would have been happy with his apology unless he said I followed and shot your son because he was black.

If Zimmerman had a gun and was gonna shoot him any way like some people believe why would he have jumped Trayvon?

I don't know why he would do that any more than I know why he followed that kid with a gun. All I know is I will not ever believe that kid just jumped him for NO reason.
IF he were anywhere NEAR responsible, he would have simply called the police. Period.

Now that there's been an arrest & trial coming up, I hope media coverage will be less one-sided.
