I've been on Lifelock for a few years since a coworker's identity was stolen to the tune of $50,000. She went thru a nightmare.

You can press charges against the woman who tried to steal yours. Put that thief in prison.

What I think is so aggravating about people who file with stolen ssn's is that the govt won't tell you who the person is that has stolen your ssn or where they are. It just is not right!

Exactly!! I mean it is MY SSN!! I should be able to then press charges!!

I asked the IRS guy if he could tell me when they filed. He said he couldn't.... but for me to just send my paperwork in and they will take care of it, from there.

It has made me a little paranoid.... like I wonder if I should change my passwords on all my online stuff??

Please do change your passwords! It is always a good idea to change passwords from time to time. Make sure your password has capital as well as small letters in it and add a number and symbol. - Like this RileyDC23% for instance.
I also use Trusteer Rapport which protects the sites where I use a password.

I could joke and say they are welcome to my return... I will owe money. But that's not the point... How awful for you

There was several news presentations about that last year... I think some people totally lost their refund. They did not file until the theives had already received the money. I could not believe it!

I have a credit keeper... I get notified when there is any activity (so far it has just been me) but I have noticed it takes a few days so maybe I will move to life lock. In today's world credit is important .. There needs to be more protection for us.

LOL!! Well I'm not getting a whole lot back, but apparently what the thieves are doing is a Fake W-2. I found out a co-workers son had it done a couple years back. They made up a salary and all the numbers. He Finally got his actual refund back but it took about a year.

It's Extremely Annoying!!

I did call DC State tax people and they said that they had not had a filing yet for my Social Security Number so it seems they only did Federal.
