New hairdryer recommendations Specifically, I need one with a good diffuser, so ladies with curly hair, natural or not, please let me know what you use, and how you like it. I have a cheapo Revlon one now that I don't like. The diffuser always randomly falls off, and when I'm drying hair, I happen to be barefoot, OUCH! Also the one I have is huge, I want one that's smaller and that works well. This one started to have issues a few months into owning it, such as the hot air will turn off from time to time and come back on again. Price is not really an issue as long as it's not in the $100+ range. Oh, I saw this on Amazon, has anyone tried this, and does it work?? |
I don't have curly hair, but my daughter has long hair & "scrunches" curls into hers sometimes and she loves using my blowdryer when she's home. I have the T3 featherweight. I Use it on ZoE too! |
I just got a new dryer!! I've only had it a few weeks, and it's a learning curve since my last one was tiny!!! This one isn't too big, but it's an adjustment I need to make. I don't remember what it's called, but it wasn't expensive. |
I have never seen a sock diffuser. May have to try that, especially for the boys. I dry their hair more than my own. I have a $25-$29 Revlon ionic ceramic something or other from Walmart that we use. |
I'm considering getting a T3. But I want some more input though. I really don't want to go ask the purse forum. Ugh. |
I googled "good hair dryers", read a bunch of reviews, and made my pick. There is no need to ask the purse forum. ;) |
My wife was a sylist for years, when we needed to replace her $100 drier I got online and did some research. There are plenty of lower priced driers that out perform the high dollar units. We ended up with 2 Conair Ion Shine 1875's.(One for Geri, one for our 14 YO Daughter) Geri likes it a LOT more than her big buck unit. Walmart.com: Conair Ion Shine Ceramic 1875 Watt Hair Dryer: Hair Care |
I have SUPER curly hair and never blow it dry unless it's to straighten it. Funny how different people do different things with their hair to manage it. So I put gel in my hair when it's curly and always just throw it up. I never blow it dry. My blow dryer is sooo old and cheap. I have no idea what it is because Ive probably had it more than 20 years! (believe that! LOL) But one time I had a hairdresser use a completely silent blow dryer on my hair. If I ever replace mine, that is what Im getting... something that is silent! something like this maybe |
FYI I don't know what the how it is for the Centrix dryer that was listed in the above amazon link by celstu1....but for the T3, you have to buy it from an authorized dealer for the warranty to be in effect. Amazon is not an authorized dealer. They sell T3s with no serial number... Not sure if they are real or fake, but they are not covered by T3 warranty...so beware of where you buy. |
QVC is selling the T3s. I have been thinking of getting one but am wary if they are really worth the extra $. |
I wonder if it really pays to spend that much, is there really a difference? I like certain things, for example the ion dryers, I have thick hair and know they are faster. I also like the option of a shot of cold air, along with an easy to clean filter, so the motor doesn't overheat. My dryer has those things plus a retractable cord that’s kind of nice and it was less than 25 bucks. Infiniti by Conair 223x Cord Reel Tourmaline Ionic Hair Dryer - Walmart.com It also has the defuser, but I don’t use it, I blow dry to smooth, not add curl. So for those that use the 100 dollar dryers, how are they better? I mean if they would make my hair look good, I'd buy one! |

This is my second one and I've had it about 3 years. The other one is still going strong, but my son used it to dry paint on his jeep and it got black paint & silicone from his hands on it. So it's now in his tool box  |

I did research this dryer before buying, and it's highly rated. |

This was the one I ended up getting. Walmart.com: Zoe Black w/White Polka Dot Hair Dryer, #ZO601BWDRY: Hair Care Though I didn't get it at Walmart, I got it at Marshalls for $19.99. The diffuser fits in really snug which is a big plus. The hot air is consistently hot, not like the ones I've had prior, that not only went from really hot to lukewarm, but also sparked on occasion as well. I still feel my hair is as limp and lifeless as ever. I am using a root boosting product on my roots, and a curl enhancing product mid shaft and ends. Also a finishing/scrunching spray. Results are eh =/ I think I just really need to get my hair re premed, but I don't want to spend the money right now. |
Try Paul Mitchell volumizing mousse! It works amazing for volume! Put some in before you blow dry! I love Paul Mitchell products, they always do what they say they are going to do (at least for my hair). |
Good question! Thanks for asking this! I need a new dryer too and have curly hair. I have a Revlon one too with a diffuser that doesn't like to stay on. LOL |

I just checked and it has the cool shot as well as the easy to clean filter. Anyway, glad you found one that you like, I still wonder if paying $$$$$ is worth it, I know what your purse forum would say. :D |
To heck w them! They don't understand value, they pay $1000s of dollars for handbags. Of course they will say get the T3. and to think people say we are judgemental here, HA! |

Never mind then. |
I like ceramic hairdryers.bablyliss is my fav..but theres alot of good ones out there, before i was a hairdresser i use to pick a conair one up from walmart, they always use to catch on fire within a year, where investing in a professional hairdryer, it has lasted me years, it still has no problems, so although you pay more for a professional one it lasts longer. Also i find what products you use.. and how you touch your hair when you dry it can be the most noticable. when you dry your hair you should use a product to protect your hair from damage and to hold your curl nice(not the hard as a rock crispy products lol)different products work for different hair types and people, i like professional products the best, redken mostly, it costs more but its more condensed and has better ingredients, so you don't have to use as much as drugstore products.you always work the product into your hands, start by the nape of the neck on damp hair, to the front of the hairline, never apply too much! less is more. then when drying your hair with the diffuser you never ever touch it too much, the more you touch it the frizzyer it will be.you just gently hold your hair with one hand while holding the diffuser on it with other in sections.i use a shine spray to finish off, i use redken shine spray, but theres alot of other good professional products too, i hold it an arm lenghts away, and sprits it twice to mist it, too much and you look greasy!just a little looks healthy:)..also that dust and woolies that collect in your hairdryer, clean it out regularly!!!!!!! this can cause your hairdryer to overheat, causing you to have fryed hair, dry damaged and split ends.hairs an accessory you wear everyday, protect it :) |

However, I do use my flat iron to style and curl or wave my hair, and since I have the perm in it, the curls last longer than when I used to curl my hair when it was unpermed. So it will almost last a night, when before it would almost last 5 mins. This is the style that I want. I got the bangs and the length so far. I did start off shorter, bc I know shorter hair looks fuller, so I may go shorter again. |
