Does anyone here own a Prius? I've been thinking about buying one but I don't know much about them. If you own one, or have a family member or friend who does, can you tell me what you know about them? |
My dh has one. He loves it. Excellent gas millage...runs well good size. I am going to get one my next car. |
Did you buy new or used? I'm thinking of buying used to see if I like it...then maybe buying new later. I heard the batteries wear out at some point and have to be replaced and they are expensive. Do you know about that? |
My neighbor has a Prius, she LOVES IT. I will tell you that is the quietest car I have ever heard, she said that she is always slowing down for squirrels and other critters who are in the road and do not hear her car. |
We bought ours used. My dh did some research and said the batteries last till about 200,000 miles. We have about 130,000 miles on ous now. |

One thing I've wondered about is...what does it do to your electric bill at home...because you plug it in like you would a golf cart, right? Are you paying out as much in the extra electricity as you would for gas? What about safety and airbags? |
My brother in law had one and loved it! He doesnt have it now only because they were transferred to Paris, France for 3 years and it made more sense to sell it. My kids nicknamed it the " kitten car" because it's so quiet and it kinda purrs like a little kitten. I think you would be happy with it if you decide to buy one. |
One of my best friends has a 2008 Prius and likes it but doesn't love it. Her biggest complaint is lack of ooomph..its slow to take off. She had a Cadillac CTS prior though, so probably a big step down in power. |

I know 2 different people who have them - and they just *love* it! |
Is funny how many peeps have been scammed into thinking that the Prius is an enviro friendly car. Is the Toyota Prius battery bad for the environment The Prius Bad for the Environment? You might feel better driving a hybrid, but you won't necessarily be greener." That's because each Prius consumes the equivalent of 1,000 gallons of fuel before its odometer clicks to 1. As we saw above, this is due to the manufacturing and shipping costs associated with the Prius. So while the Prius may not be worse for the environment than a Hummer is, it certainly would be given a run for its money when put head-to-head with a used car with reasonable fuel economy |

Ever wonder where the materials for thos batteries comes from? Do a little research. Is worse than blood diamonds. |
Also, so a little research on the way that most of those battery packs are recycled. Down in Mexico, with no regard for the enviroment, or the people recycling them. Lead poisoning is a terrible way to die. |
I love my Prius so much! I am on my second and wouldn't drive anything else. I also had driven high end vehicles for so many years and my husband said you will own that for a couple of weeks and so on! Well he was wrong and the gas milage on this 2010 is even so much better that my 2008 model! Love it! I hate pumping gas I don't care what it costs! At least this keeps me out of the gas stations! |

It is very quite.. and at first I felt like it stop running when we were at stop lights and such. It has enough pick up.. it is not a high end sports car. My dh used to have vets and the like, his love car was a special edition Nissan 350Z-- I think it was a steve million ??? he almost slept in the car!! but there are not that many places to really run a car like that. |

also .. the facts that you brought up about the "foot print" of the car.. how does it compare over the life of the car to other cars??? All facts are needed before decisions can me made. I am interested. |

Yes, we've had many, many high end vehicles too but...now that we have an all electric home it feels kind of good so I thought the next thing to do would be to get an electric vehicle. I'm still looking...I don't htink I've convinced my husband yet though. |

The Prius battery are nickel based...the newest ones are lithium. The new volt has a lithium battery for example. The battery's last over 200,000 miles. I am not sure it is the Prius batteries you speak of. But I will do some research By the way Toyota is very environmentally involved. |
I've been looking at the new V series. I'd love to have the wagon, but am not giving up my Lexus RX. ;) Maybe I'll sell the excursion. :D |
