Doing some research Can you all tell me what perfumes were popular with teenagers in the 1960's? Would appreciate all input. |
My Mom is a 60's gal and has always worn Chantilly (I think it stinks, yuck!!!) Chanel no5 was pretty hot back then, as was Estee Lauder's Youth Dew (which I have and love!) That's all I can remember right now. Good luck:) |
Was Chanel #5 affordable for teenagers? |
My Mum was a teen in the 60's in England. She said she wore Channel No. 5, Tweed, Worth, Mary Quant, & An Evening in Paris. |
Lovs's baby cologne I think it was called. Chantilly. Windsong, Eau de London by Yardley |
Sylvia, I just have to throw this in! I wasn't even born in the 60's! :D |
Also Jean Nate, which I used (I'm old) and Tabu which I thought was atrocious, but it was popular. |
I wasn't born until the 80's but I will ask my Mom/Dad what they remember. My Mom was born in 1960, but she had older friends I'm sure. I'll have to ask my MIL too. If I get some info from them, I'll be more than happy to share to help you out. |
I think Cachet and White Shoulders were popular but not sure. |

I went and asked my Mom and my MIL. They said 'Tabu' and 'Midnight In Paris'??? Not sure I worded that last one right though. My MIL also likes that Oscar de la Renta perfume, but not sure if that was 60's. My hubby and I buy her another bottle of it every year for her stocking. We hate the smell of it, but she loves it and we would rather see her smile than smell it I guess! LOL |
White Shoulders was definitely popular. Probably some Avon scents too, from what I remember. |
Avon was big in the 60's & 70's but i cannot remember a single name of any of it lol another one i remember probably 80's "Sand & Sable" |

OK - which perfume (commonly used by teenagers in the 60's) would be considered "trampy"? |

I remember that Musk was a popular scent but I'm not sure if it was 60's. I couldn't get used to though. I know Avon carried it and I think there were several brands of it. |
I'm fairly sure about some popular ones...White Shoulders, Jean Nate, Windsong, and maybe a little later, Love's Baby Soft. Maybe Shalimar? As far as trampy, I know my mother thought Love's Baby Soft was for "cheap" girls...and it's bottle-shape stirred up a little ruckus at the time. Tabu, maybe, because of the name? I, too, am anxious to find out about your research reasons...and results! |
Well, I WAS a teenager in the 60's and a "Windsong" (whispers my name) girl. But, when I went to college, I was a Faberge "Woodhue" user. My mom wore 'Shalimar". When my boyfriend (later, hubby) went to Paris, he brought me back a bottle of "Joy" (supposedly the most expensive perfume in the world, at the time). Boy, was THAT a small bottle! |
I remember my older sister wearing Heaven Scent and my Mom's signature perfume was Shalimar. |
I remember one...a pink one called Chantilly...or Chantilly Lace??? Gee, I cannot remember but I think it was a popular one. Some people wore that awful headache inducing Estee Lauder. Made me sick to my stomach. |
