I wouldn't want to ride any elevators down from the 50th floor in the affected areas. Friday I was in a very tall building in Dallas coming way down on an elevator and enjoying the ride but I just thought of taking that ride right after an earthquake - don't think I'd like it!

I felt it here in the Finacial District in NYC. they were evacuating some buildings. My corporate office is in Los Angeles, they laughed when I told them they were evacuating some buildings in NY..

I remember the big warning they would give us in California after a quake was to check all gas lines. If in doubt, turn off gas until gas man can check it. Most of the problems after earthquakes were fires due to gas explosions. Hope everybody is okay, what's the universe trying to tell us??????

Ya'll probably don't have the same building codes as the West so I don't doubt they want to check those building structures.

The 6.2 that I experienced in California knocked everything off of the shelves at the grocery store. Imagine an entire liquor department smashed on the floor.

I think outdoors in an open area is safest, doorways second. Not sure.

And now on CNN news they are talking about the hurricane heading toward the southeast coast. Geez, what's going on?

Do the sniff test around the connections, I suppose. If you have a gas water heater that isn't strapped against a wall, I'd check that really well.

We certainly live in interesting times with all this instant communication and things sometimes seem to happen all at once.

It has been felt throughout the D.C. metro region and over a large part of the eastern U.S. Initial indications are that it measured 5.9 on the Richter scale.




Minutes after the quake, the director of the U.S. Geological Survey, Marcia McNutt -- who watched objects falling from the shelves in her office -- cautioned that the shaking might not be over.

Thank you Karen! Let's just pray that it isn't a foreshock of a bigger one to come as the USGS message said it may be, that Karen posted above.

The USGS was just saying that they only expect there could be some smaller trimmers of the 2. variety or so.

I too hope everyone is ok. We had shaking here in little ole Bethel, N.C. who would of thought:eek: And now the hurricane coming our way. I am praying this want be another Floyd.....that was a really bad time for a lot of us here .

All the wood I have piled up against the house came down, animals running through the yard.""The sound of it was like a hundred times worse than thunder. It was like the sky was falling. The sound came from the ground."

Thankfully, our chimney is still standing. Hope we have a roof and our trees after the hurricane comes on Sunday. :(

I'm so glad you guys are OK, Kristin. The news said it was felt all the way over here, though I didn't notice. I will keep you in my prayers for Sunday as well.:hug:

LOL, I'm sure they do think we are silly. I have experienced a couple of 6 + earthquakes in Malibu, and this one still scared me. We aren't built for this stuff on the East Coast.

I was in my car at a stop light and my car was shaking. I thought something was wrong with my Jeep -- turned the radio down, turned the air off, was wondering what was wrong. Then the stoplights all went out and then I tried to call my mom and my phone was cut out! I seriously thought the world was coming to an end for a brief second... LOL, or at least all technology had come to a crash. The only thing I could get through on was Facebook. So at least we know when all else fails, Facebook will still be there. ;) Lol. Jackson was with me today all day running my errands and dog walks. He was fine though. It was definitely not as bad in the car. He kind of acted a little weird beforehand though, almost like he was sensing something. His ears were all perked up.

That was crazy though! My grandma works in the hospital and said the whole building was shaking and it looked like the buildings were swaying. Everyone ran out of my mom's salon too. My dad said he was in the Verizon store and the girls behind the counter were all screaming saying the building was collapsing and he ran out of there so fast and saw the street/parking lot shaking too!

Max and Teddy were scared stiff, I think. They focused on me intently, waiting to see how I would react. Normally Max would bark to alert me.

I'm so sorry..what a scary experience. I've only experienced hurricanes...but at least those are well- tracked and they don't come out of nowhere. Glad to hear you're safe.

Just talked to my SIL in Danville,Va he said things in his office fell he went outside and watched the parking lot moving..he said it was scarey
