What to wear?
 
My birthday is coming up soon-ish, and my mom wants to have a dress made for me. I had seen a dress and fell in love with it. My mom saw the price and she thinks she can have one made for me for a lot less. :)

Before we commit to this idea, I need help! It's a cream/pearl colored dress, and I don't know what shoes go with that color. I don't want the dress if I have to go buy shoes for it that won't go with anything else. Most of my clothes are black (my favorite color) and my heels for the most part are black as well. I have one pair of grey pumps that I hardly ever use. I don't want to have another pair of shoes that I'd hardly ever wear. But I do want to step out of my comfort zone and get a dress other than black or grey.

I can include a picture if that helps. :)

I think that cream is such a lovely color and can look so striking on brunettes. I think you could do a lot of different shoes colors with creme. Black would be fine as long as it sets the same tone. Any neutral color, such as a nude that matched your leg would do, as well as a pop of color from reds to silvers. By the way, a pair of red or silver shoes can make you black and grey dresses look fresh again. Seriously the expensive shoes aren't any better for your feet than the knock offs.

I feel so stupid giving a young girl tips on fashion, lol, I've always loved it, so forgive me if I'm hopelessly out of date.

Nancy, I think you gave good advice. You could wear the black pumps and black jewelry would help to tie the look together. And maybe a small black clutch purse.

I agree with Nancy. You could do black heels, and I was thinking nude too. I see lots of actresses in nude heels with all colors of dresses, so they would be versatile and something different for you. Angelina Jolie often wears nude heels. The nude color gives the illusion of longer legs in shorter skirts.

I wanna see the dress.

The only thing I don't agree with Nancy on is about the inexpensive shoes. Esp heels, I cannot wear cheap going out shoes. My feet are gonna be hurting anyway, no way I am going to take the extra torture of faux leather.

I wouldn't know how to wear nude pumps. I can wear any color I want, and just throw on nude pumps?

Oh, and I'm afraid nude pumps will make me look weird. I'm suppose to be tan, but my legs are really pale. I'm trying to wear more shorts and dresses to show them off now that I lost 25 lbs, but I'm still scared of my thunder thighs! :( I'm afraid my mismatched coloring would look incredibly odd with such pale tones.

I might not be into the british monarchy, but I do love Kate Middleton. Her style sense seems so classy.

Have you ever used spray on tan? Neutrogena micro-mist is really nice, go for a medium tan, not the darkest. Some of the creams might be easier to apply to the legs though. Practice before the big day, and be prepared to wear jeans on the days you mess up. I've always like nude pumps before they were ever in, I really think they make the leg look longer.

Susana, (or is it SuZana? Lisa and Priscilla have me so confused :p), you could wear stockings that give you a little color...just make sure that they are good ones and not LEGGs, lol. Angelina Jolie is pale as a ghost and nude shoes look good on her.

You were right the first time. :)

I actually don't have plans for my b-day. My mom just knows I've been eyeing this dress for months, and wants me to have it. I'll end up wearing it to church on Sundays, or some family function.

That is a beautiful dress - LOVE it!! I think you could go nude or black shoe w it (it kind of has a taupe undertone).

I am a POP color girl. If I were wearing a neutral dress and it was all one color with no pattern, I would wear a pop color shoes & bag. For that dress I'd probably go bright fuschia, or purple maybe.... I bet you could get some fab heels that have tones of grey & black (the dress looked more silvery than ivory to me, but it could be my eyes) and either black or grey would look great with it. I think almost any bright color would look great too. Try a shoe in a pattern material.... with a monochormatic dress, it really stands out and looks great. If the pattern in the shoes has black in it you could carry a black bag. Go big or go home girlfriend!!! ;) :) It's a really GREAT dress! Show it off! :)

No, there is a tailor that my mom knows. She's going to make it for me. My mom would do it, but she has no sewing machine. We've offered to buy her a new one, but she doesn't want one.

Blegh! I hate my feet!!!!! I have yet to find cute shoes that I would be happy to wear over and over in a size 5. Why did my feet have to be so little??? :(

be happy they aren't like a size 10 and up. ur feet are perfect because God made you that way ;) and i love the dress an the idea of nude pumps with it. can't wait to see you model the dress.

I'm excited about the dress. I do hate shoe shopping. Everyone oohs and aahs at "how cute" little feet are. Do they ever think that all I can find to fit is in the children's section???? :p I'm not kidding. I mostly wear sneakers because they're easy to find, and I usually pay less than "adult" shoes. I'm afraid to find nice grown up shoes online, order, and then find out they don't fit. :(

I'm telling you go to Nordstrom Rack! Even if you have to drive a bit, and I know you love to drive. They have great prices on shoes and they start at 5 and under! There's tons, trust me. Whenever I go I start at 5.5 and go up to 7.5. I have a shoe guy who does magic and can make a 5.5 fit my 7 feet. :)
