Dr. OZ highly recommends it, especially to prevent spread of colds and flu. I haven't tried it yet, but will. |
Neti Pot I have one. I haven't used it in a while, but it does help. |
I came down with a bad sinus infection and middle ear infection 3 weeks ago. It has left me with clogged ears and I can't hear a thing! I'm going to an ENT tomorrow. In answer to your question, I've used a nettipot for a few years now. It has been a life saver when it comes to my allergies. I've been using it at least twice a day for the past 3 weeks. It DOES help clear out your sinus passages and relieves some congestion. I've also been using Sudafed 12 hour. This has helped tremendously with my congestion. The pharmacist asked if I had high blood pressure, too. It makes my heart race a little faster. The doctor also told me to use plain Mucinex. It will also help thin the mucous some. He told me I waited too long to get control of my sinus infection and that caused my middle ear infection. I hope you find relief because I know how miserable you must be. Get to feeling better soon! P.S. I'll have to ask questions to the ENT tomorrow about side effects from the use of a nettipot. Interesting. |
I have been using it a few times a day since Sat. so a few days. I can definietely tell it helps immediatly after using it but then I am clogged again. I did get in touch with my OB and he said Sudafed is fine and also suggested Claritin D. I hate taking medications, especially being pregnant, but my head is so congested. :( |
I started using one a few months ago and I've been able to cut down the amount of allergy meds I need to take....most days I can get away with just the sinus rinse and Patanol for my eyes. |
Hello all. I am Renee! I used a neti pot for years but now I use an electric neti-type thingy twice a day. It has been a lifesaver! I have not had a sinus headache for about 4 years now and my allergy flare-ups are on the decline as well. I only have trouble when I seriously over-do - like cleaning out the attic (dust) or cutting grass that has sat too long. I hope you find some relief soon. I recommend it. I wouldn't take anything when I was pregnant either and the neti was my best buddy. |

As for the Neti pot never used one but I did have sinus issues while I was pregnant (prior to my spay) many years ago. The OB recommended Sudafed for me as well. I sure hope you are felling better. It really stinks to be pregnant and not feeling well. |
Amanda, Try that steam bath thing. I know we can't get our bath water too hott, but get that towel steaming hot and then take a warmish bath. Put the towel over your head and breathe all the steam in deeply. you can also try this in a steamy shower. don't stay in too long because i don't want you to raise your body temp too high, but defin steam towel that head and try to steam out those sinuses a bit. hot tea or something might also help clear your head out. some natural websites suggest drinking a little apple cider vinegar before you get that bad next time, or collodial silver (i have that for sore throats) and other crazy things. research natural meds for sinus infections and see what you can find. always check with OB to make sure anything new is baby safe too. |
Not sure how you feel about herbs during pregnancy but I work at a birth center and this is what we recommend. Obviously check with your OB! Use the leaves of the lemon verbena plant to relieve sinus pressure. This herb is commonly used in teas and deserts and is readily available wherever herbs are sold. The leaves can be used in a steam treatment or as part of an herbal tea to help break up sinus congestion, lower fever and soothe a sore throat. Combine 1/2 tsp. of salt with 1/2 cup of water and microwave the mixture until warm. Pour a little of the mixture into the palm of your hand and gently snort some into each congested nostril. This remedy can be used regularly throughout the day to relieve mild sinus congestion. Stay away from echinacea and goldenseal- not good for expectant mommies! Snort a tiny amount of ginger powder to relieve sinus pain. This remedy can be used frequently, as sinus symptoms persist. Discontinue the use of this remedy if you begin to experience bloody noses. All of our moms tend to lean towards herbs and natural products versus OTC medications or prescriptions.....if you aren't interested, disregard, won't hurt my feelings at all. |
The ole Netti wasn't cutting for me so I went to the dr. today. I have started antibiotics for a sinus infection, fluid behind both ears, and bronchitis in both lungs. :( I definitely think the netti is great for clearing up regular allergy/sinus issues but I was needing something a bit stronger. |
that lemon verbena idea is a good one. we grew some at the house. tastes like lemon tea and it\'s good for you. sorry you got sick girlie. try those steam towels and keep on trying to feel better. those meds should help you feel great really soon. |
